Nāhi's death in Episode 8 of Chief of War lays the plot perfectly for the season finale of the show
At the beginning of Episode 8, situations are already tense, and Nāhi and Namake feel a loss of faith in their brother Kai'ana as a leader. While Kai'ana wants to return to their old way of life on the shore of Kaua'i, Nāhi disapproves of this idea since they have spent many months building their current life.
Seeking some respite from the constant state of tension, Nāhi escapes into the woods, where he finds unexpected comfort and support in Heke, who is distraught over the beachside massacre. While they get some love and comfort among themselves, this bliss is quite short-lived, as they find, amidst themselves, some unwanted company as well.
It is shortly discovered that Keoua has managed to make his way to the edge of the district, and he has Maui soldiers assisting him. In this dire situation, before Nāhi and Heke can escape to safety, they are discovered and captured by the Maui soldiers. Nāhi ends up in a fight with the King, where Keoua eventually overpowers him and ruthlessly kills him. Keoua does not stop at that. He even sends Heke to Kai'ana to deliver the news of his brother's death and the subsequent war.
Nāhi's death was one of the most tragic incidents that took place in the episode due to multiple factors. Not only was he simply seeking some respite from the ongoing distress, but the ruthless nature of his murder makes it so tragic: Nāhi was killed when Keoua slammed a rock into his head, finishing the job.
Kai'ana's reaction to Nāhi's death sets the premise for the finale episode of the season, and fans cannot wait to watch the same.
