Elsbeth Season 2 will be wrapping up next week with the season finale, titled Ramen Holiday. With only one episode left for the season to conclude, the viewers got a shocking character update in Season 2 Episode 19.
It was revealed in the penultimate episode of Season 2 that NYPD officer Kaya Blanke (Carra Patterson) would not be featuring as series regular anymore.
Kaya Blanke has been an important character since the beginning of the show and therefore, her departure came as a shock. In Elsbeth Season 2 Episode 19, titled I’ve Got A Little List, Captain Wagner informs Kaya about her transfer to DC, saying,
“You are joining a special task force in DC. A spot just opened up. Training starts right away. It will require extensive training in DC and undercover assignments.”
Kaya’s reaction to this news is that of genuine shock as she did not even apply for the position. She then comes to know that Wagner had taken the decision by himself, believing that Kaya was the best choice for that position.
Carra Patterson’s Kaya Blanke will be a guest star from Elsbeth Season 3
Talking about her future on the show, Carra Patterson assured her fans that her transfer to DC did not mean the end of her character's journey. She mentioned to Deadline,
“My character, Kaya Blanke, is embarking on a new adventure as the story continues to unfold, and I am excited to do the same. But we will see Kaya again – fans will find out what she’s been up to in her new role as ‘Detective’ next season when I come back to guest star and play with Carrie and Wendell. I am beyond grateful to the cast, crew, and producers, and of course, the fans, for all the love and support.”
Jonathan Tolins, who serves as the executive producer of Elsbeth, also addressed this decision, saying,
“Kaya just turned out to be this wonderful partner for Elsbeth, and that relationship was one that we all love so much, and we love Carra. We’re excited that the character got her promotion and achieved that dream. She’s not leaving the world of the show. She’s just not going to be with us every day. I don’t want to make too much of the change.”
Kaya has always shared a great chemistry with Elsbeth and it would be interesting to see how the makers will make up for her reduced presence with her. However, Kaya is not leaving abruptly as she would be given a proper farewell in the finale of Elsbeth Season 2, which will also feature other guest stars of the show.
Elsbeth can be streamed on Paramount+.
