DiMarco, who plays Peter, Grace's toxic boyfriend and leader of cults such as 'Fiesh and Gold', suggests while speaking with The Wrap that he is aware of what Skinner is up to for Season 2. Popularly known for the show The White Lotus, the actor has said,

“It’s a tough question to answer because I know exactly what Benny has planned if there is a Season 2 for most of the characters. Everything Benny has planned is just insane and hilarious, and you just wouldn’t see it coming.”

He also added that for his character Peter, it will be an "unhinged way" of growth and development, hinting at either a breakdown, transformation, or deeper descent into madness.

Overcompensating explores how each main character is consumed by their self-image, ego, or emotional insecurity. Peter, Carmen and Benny hurt people for validation, control and identity, an effort to cover up their internal emptiness.

“College is a bit selfish, and it’s self-preservation,” DiMarco added. “They’re not just going to stop overcompensating. I think people do their whole lives.”

Overcompensating is produced by A24 and Jonah Hill’s Strong Baby, and it features a strong ensemble cast including Mary Beth Barone, Adam DiMarco, and Rish Shah, with guest appearances by Megan Fox, Bowen Yang, and Charli XCX. The show has been appreciated for its sharp humour, along with the authentic portrayal of college life with all its emotional depth.

Skinner was so excited for Season 2 that he asserted that Amazon should be messaged right away.

“I can’t believe this was my first experience of it because I’m addicted now, and we have to make Season 2,” Skinner told TheWrap. “Can you text Amazon right now?”

Mary Beth Barone, who plays Carmen in Overcompensating, talks about her character's emotional arc, particularly the rift between Carmen and Benny caused by her betrayal in the Season 1 finale. She explains that Carmen’s tendency to “overcompensate with intimacy” is a defence mechanism as she is constantly deprived of love.

“Her overcompensating with intimacy is an example of, ultimately, artifice, because she wants to feel loved so very badly,” she said. “I really hope for Benny and Carmen’s relationship that they’re able to mend that because I think it’s really the heart and soul of the show.”

Amazon has not officially renewed Overcompensating for Season 2, but given the way it has been received by fans, the renewal is highly likely. Moreover, the creator has already laid down the plans for the upcoming season, ensuring a compelling storyline for the viewers.
