Shadow and Bone

Shadow and Bone, the Netflix fantasy series, ran for two years from 2021 to 2023. It is based on the books by Leigh Bardugo, set in a fictional Grishaverse, following Alina Starkov, a cartographer, who is revealed to be a sun-summoner, prophesied to be the one to destroy the Shadow Fold. The Shadow Fold was created by a grisha known as the Black Heretic, and it is a vast expanse of darkness that people dare not penetrate, as it is filled with perilous creatures.

The show follows Alina as she gradually understands the responsibility she has towards her people and how she learns to control her powers and eventually destroy the Fold. The show has pirates, but the main characters are Grisha, people with magical powers. Nevertheless, the story has adventure, action, and magic.

Shadow and Bone was developed by Eric Heisserer, who also served as executive producer along with Lee Toland Krieger, Leigh Bardugo, Pouya Shahbazian, Josh Barry, Dan Cohen, Shawn Levy, Shelley Meals, Dan Levine, and Daegan Fryklind. 21 Laps Entertainment, Chronology, and Loom Studios are the companies that produced the show.
