Young Sheldon star joins the upcoming Fox’s medical comedy series Best Medicine

Annie Potts, well-known for her role as Meemaw on Young Sheldon, has joined Fox's new medical comedy series, Best Medicine. The series is an American remake of the popular British sitcom Doc Martin, and it will begin filming this summer in upstate New York, according to reports.

Potts, known for her appearances in Ghostbusters and Designing Women, portrayed the character with warmth and humor. In addition to Young Sheldon, she has voiced Bo Peep in the Toy Story trilogy and performed in several film and television roles throughout her long and distinguished career.

She has played iconic parts in both comedy and drama throughout her decades-long career.

Annie Potts, who played Meemaw in Young Sheldon and one of the protagonists in Designing Women, has joined Fox's forthcoming comedy series Best Medicine. Potts will star with Josh Charles, Abigail Spencer, and Josh Segarra.

Josh Charles plays Dr. Martin Best, a highly accomplished surgeon who abruptly quits his job in Boston to work as a general practitioner in a little fishing community on the East Coast, where he spent time as a boy. Although he excels at resolving medical issues, the people dislike his direct demeanor. However, the eccentric locals may be just what he needs for this new phase of his life.

Annie Potts will play Aunt Joan, a tough and independent woman who continues to work on her lobster boat every day, and she is well-respected in town and does not appreciate anyone telling her what to do. Joan is stern on the exterior but has a great heart, especially for her nephew Martin. Throughout the series, her character will divulge prior mysteries, including why she lost contact with Martin years ago.

TV humor is nothing new to Potts.Her most recent appearance was in four episodes of Season 1 of CBS's Georgie & Mandy's First Marriage, a Young Sheldon spinoff.

Best Medicine is being produced by Fox Entertainment Studios, with executive producers including Ben Silverman (The Office), Rodney Ferrell, Howard T. Owens, Liz Tuccillo (Sex and the City), and others. The program will launch around midseason and be available internationally through Fox Entertainment Global.

Best Medicine, with its blend of comedy, heart, and small-town charm, is looking like a solid addition to Fox's schedule. Potts' portrayal of Aunt Joan is intended to offer warmth, comedy, and depth to the production as it presents a fresh perspective on a cherished British classic.
