Young Sheldon or The Big Bang Theory is incomplete without Mary Cooper and ''Soft Kitty, Warm Kitty...'' that Mary sang to comfort Sheldon. Mary Cooper is a central character in Young Sheldon who holds the Cooper family together and takes extra care of her younger son, Sheldon.

While Mary is an extremely loving mother and doting wife, she is also always stressed. She is a religious Christian and a strict mother. To be honest, there are very few characters on television who portray the realities of being a mother as well as Maey Cooper does.

However, when Young Sheldon was airing, many netizens felt that Mary Cooper was an uptight character. Surprisingly, that was also the least favorite part of playing Mary Cooper for Zoe Perry, as she said in an interview with Mashable India.

Zoe Perry was not the first person to play Mary Cooper. Her mother, Laurie Metcalf, had played Mary Cooper in The Big Bang Theory. Zoe went on to play the role in the spin-off, Young Sheldon. Zoe playing the character added to the show because she was able to bring many qualities to the role that her mother had brought in the past. The physical similarities made viewers temporarily believe she was actually a younger version of Metcalf's Mary.

While Zoe Perry was highly praised for playing Mary Cooper in Young Sheldon, it was not an easy role to play. Sure, Mary has a lot of redeeming qualities, as Perry said in the Mashable India interview, speaking about her favorite thing about playing the character, saying,

''I like how passionate Mary is. She really cares about what she cares about and she’ll let you know!''

Mary Cooper was a loving and caring mother, daughter, and wife who always thought of her family before herself. She sure had opinions, and she stuck to them. Whether it be about a bizarre thing Sheldon wanted to do, or Georgie's impulsive behavior, or dealing with Missy's antics, Mary was clear about what she wanted and made herself heard. Even in her relationship with George, she did not back down.

However, she was also rigid, as agreed by Zoe Perry in the Mashable India interview when asked about her least favorite thing. Perry had responded, saying,

''Least favourite is probably her rigidity, because it is not only metaphorical but literal! I find that I am constantly tense when I am playing her. So at the end of the day, I’m a little sore!''

Zoe Perry is completely justified in not liking this part of the character in Young Sheldon because it unintentionally makes Mary look uptight. It sort of takes away from the beautiful person Mary Cooper is and sometimes makes her seem like the villain who does not understand her family's needs. Besides, playing a mother who has to handle three very different children is no easy task. On top of that, Mary's rigidity is enough reason for the actress to feel exhausted at the end of the day.

Young Sheldon is streaming on Netflix and Prime Video.
