Welcome to the Beyond the Gates Daily Y.A.P.P. (Your After-Program Ponderings) for a quick — and by that, I mean you’re already halfway done — recap of the most amazing or what-the-heck-did-we-just-watch moments on today’s episode. Let’s get to it:
What Happened on Beyond the Gates

Martin had a bit of a freak-out when he found out that Smitty’s editor had assigned him a new research topic that revolved around Marcel Malone. Marcel, as we know, is a dirty cop tied to Joey Armstrong. Armstrong pays off Marcel to look the other way on things. Jacob’s father, Elon Hawthorne, the Chief of Police, is also a dirty cop and knows what Marcel does.

When Martin hears that, he carefully suggests that such a fluff piece is better suited to someone of lesser talents than his husband, Smitty. Then, one of Martin's aids, Zach, enters and tells of a robbery and assault of a local store owner. This triggers a waking nightmare, and Martin once again has a collection of distorted visions, a car, flashing lights, someone getting beaten with a tire iron, a face behind a wheel, and a raspy voice saying, “let's see the color of your money.” Well, I fancy myself as a bit of an armchair sleuth, much like Kat Richardson, and I think I have a few things figured out.

Screen captures of the nightmare sequence show Martin behind the wheel of a car, someone with close-cropped hair beating someone with a tire iron, and someone placing their hand on someone else, and it getting shoved away. But more than that, there is a scene with Ted’s friend Carlton, who says that Eva running a tight ship is exactly hat they need and, “someone to keep us in line” that voice, I’d bet good money that it’s the same one who says, “lets see the color of you money.” What does that mean? Carlton may just not be the nicest of people, and Ted should be careful.
