Welcome to the Beyond the Gates Daily Y.A.P.P. (Your After-Program Ponderings) for a quick — and by that, I mean you’re already halfway done — recap of the most amazing or what-the-heck-did-we-just-watch moments on today’s episode. Let’s get to it:
What Happened on Beyond the Gates

We learnt a whole lot more about the “Martin's nightmare” storyline today. We know it happened two years ago and that there was an unsolved murder around the same time. The murder was likely committed by one of Joey Armstrong’s associates or triggermen. The man was paid off by Joey for confessing to a burglary job at the same time giving both the triggerman an alibi for the murder and an arrest for the investigating officer, Detective Marcel Malone. We also learnt that someone was paid off and was supposed to have left the country, as Vernon told Martin, and that Vernon would know if he had returned. At the same time, Vernon recognized the busboy from the Fairmont Crest Country Club, Kenny, as being that man or connected. Just a feeling.

During the interview that Smitty was doing on Soon-to-be-retired Detective Malone, he learnt that Marcel belonged to the same exclusive yacht club as Joey Armstrong and had a very fast and quite stunning yacht. Not the typical acquisitions by a police detective on their salary. We know Marcel took payoffs from Joey to keep police pressure away, and Smitty is going to dig up all sorts, I just know it. Before the interview was terminated by Malone, he told Smitty the questions were more like stones, and the old saying about people loving in glass houses shouldn't throw stones. Smitty asked what that meant, and Marcel casually walked away, saying, “You're the investigative reporter, don't let the door hit you.” Time to ask Martin a few questions, huh, Smitty? Speaking of Martin, he got thrown for a loop when Kenny denied saying the line from his nightmare; rather, he was asking if Martin wanted the check, making Martin think he was going crazy.
