Welcome to the Beyond the Gates Daily Y.A.P.P. (Your After-Program Ponderings) for a quick — and by that, I mean you’re already halfway done — recap of the most amazing or what-the-heck-did-we-just-watch moments on today’s episode. Let’s get to it:
What Happened on Beyond the Gates

Well, I'm kind of left scratching my head after Derek was surprised by a visit from Jacob, his bestie. Instead of giving the guy some sound advice on moving on from or reconciling with Ashley, Jacobs' advice seemed to be that Ashley is right and Derek is wrong. Jacob told Derek to adjust, and it wouldn’t kill him to give her a win every now and again. I’m totally confused by Jacob’s advice. He’s positioning it like Derek can throw his girlfriend a bone now and then to make her feel like she’s got some control in their relationship. But the reality is, Jacob is married to a Dupree woman, and by those rules, there is no win to throw. In Dupree relationships, the strong women of the house are the ones in charge, and if anyone’s going to be throwing a bone, the men are on the receiving end (duck!). Look, Derek and Ashley definitely need to work out some compromises, and Derek can’t be leaving stuff around the house like he did with his old flatmates. But if they are to share space, then Ashley needs to be a little less boot-camp-drill-sergeant and work together with Derek. Argue to find a solution, not to find blame. This subservient man thing only popped into my head as it would appear that most of the men on the show, except a bold few, may get to wear the pants, but they're told which pair by their significant other.
