On Beyond the Gates, Detective Marcel Malone can be counted on to get the job done — when it comes to dirty deeds done not so cheap, that is. In the end, it’s Marcel who sorts out Martin's problem.
Beyond the Gates with DC’s finest

The DC Metro Police Department has one fine cop in Detective Marcel Malone (Darryl W. Handy) — if you’re getting references from Joey Armstrong (Jon Lindstrom), that is.
Handy has put in a solid performance as the crooked cop on Joey’s payroll since his first appearance in the March 11th episode of Beyond the Gates. And today, Malone came through big, although a better description would be clutch. Martin’s (Brandon Claybon nightmare storyline was heating up fast and about to become all too real.

Congressman Richardson called an impromptu press conference at Orphey Gene’s, where he was going to spill the tea on what happened on that night on a dark road two years ago. Thinking that the only way he could keep his family safe was to go public and ride out the consequences, Martin was at odds with his grandfather, Vernon (Clifton Davis), and Bill Hamilton (Timon Kyle Durett), who wanted the secret to remain secret.
The long arm of the law
Bill “The Fixer” Hamilton and Joey concocted a plan to get the situation under control as soon as possible. The plan was to have Malone utilize all the resources of his department to locate the busboy, Kenny (Jason Vendryes) — and then make him disappear. Vernon (supposedly) is under the impression that they will simply pay the man off, and if it requires a bigger payoff, so be it. However, Bill and Joey know that the only way this ends is with Kenny in the ground.

In an eleventh-hour move, Bill calmed Martin down and stalled the press conference with a beautiful introduction to Congressman Richardson. Meanwhile, Malone located Kenny and brought him to Orphey Gene’s (with its blinds closed) to show them that he had the man in his custody, and then left with him.

Just before Martin was about to reveal to all in front of the press, Bill got a message and a photo from Marcel. It simply said “Done,” and the attached image was a picture of Kenny sprawled on the grass with a bullet wound to the chest. Putting his phone on the lectern and directing Martin's attention to it, Bill bought enough time to close down the press conference, citing a family emergency.

Vernon breathed a huge sigh of relief as Martin turned away from the lectern, in shock and confusion. But is this the end? Does Kenny's death change anything for Martin? “Oh my god, 'They Killed Kenny'” has gone from a South Park meme to reality on Beyond the Gates.
