Beyond the Gates: Missed details and missing people 

On Beyond the Gates, Doug's death is not going away quietly; there is a detail that fans must have spotted, but Vanessa, Jacob, and Donnell have all missed so far.

Take another look at Beyond the Gates.

Joey Armstrong, played by Jon Lindstrom, is on a tear through Fairmont Crest and always seems to remain squeaky clean and be the Teflon Don of the DMV. But taking another look at episodes 145 and 146, eagle-eyed fans will see that there is a chink in Joey's armor.

Joey reviewed security footage of Doug (ex Jason Graham) at the casino the night he died, and knew he had to make a copy that was doctored for the Police to take for evidence. In the footage, it was clear to see Doug sitting next to Detective Marcel Malone (Darryl W. Handy). Joey paused and said, “I’m going to need to make Marcel disappear.” At first, we wondered if the mob boss was going to have Marcel taken out, and he did in a way; he wanted Marcel removed from the video footage. The security guy did precisely that, but what he forgot to do was remove Marcel’s glass from the table as well…

Joey noticed the error

Now, fast-forward to Joey, Jacob, Vanessa (Lauren Buglioli), and Donnell (Alex Cheeks) at the station, where Joey volunteers a USB drive containing the CCTV footage of Doug at the casino. We can clearly see Doug sitting by himself at the table, handing over the watch that Vanessa had given him. Then we see Doug get unsteadily to his feet and stagger off to the right of the screen. Pausing there, we can also see the second glass, to the left of Doug’s seat. Now we at home know that this was the glass Marcel was drinking out of while he was egging Doug on to keep trying his luck at the table and refilling his drink as needed.

There it is, soap fans, that detail alone should be enough for the Boy Scout cop Jacob to dig away til he hits pay dirt. By the look on Joey's face, he saw it and immediately realized its potential to raise more questions and cause trouble. Is this what Vanessa is going to spot? Should there be more cameras in the casino showing Doug's path through the casino to the car park? One would expect so. If this second glass is spotted, then surely Jacob will ask the pertinent questions! How will Joey get himself out of that one?
