On Beyond the Gates, Kat emerged from her room after Chelsea got off a phone call. Chelsea revealed that stylist Cynthia Yang was considering having one of her clients take a ChelseaKat bag to the Golden Globes...and that she'd be more excited about it were it not for Anita's cancer diagnosis and the looming threat of one of their mothers carrying the BRCA gene. Kat admitted that she had probably been a total bitch blowing off Anita's phone calls; Chelsea described the impromptu Mardi Gras party their grandmother had thrown to lighten everyone's mood.

Both Chelsea and Kat regretted fighting over whether or not Kat should get tested, with Kat confessing that she had avoided the family event for fear of walking into an ambush. Chelsea swore she wouldn't have allowed such a thing and said she had realized she'd needed to change tacks once Madison had told her to “back the hell up.” Kat promised that avoiding BRCA screening was her way of taking care of herself – she wasn't as strong as Anita, and if she were to test positive, there wouldn't be anything she could do about it, anyway.

At the country club, Naomi thanked Jacob for “dragging my ass” to the gym for a workout, which had also been helpful on an emotional level. Jacob was aware of his wife's distress and suggested they log in an extra counseling session, but Naomi complained about not having time between a huge case of hers finally going to trial and her having earmarked all her spare moments for the family. The detective could tell that Naomi was falling back on throwing herself into work as a coping mechanism; Naomi confirmed that the Duprees were their own support group and dismissed Jacob's pleas to take advantage of the additional outlet they had.

Andre offered to make Dani breakfast, but she didn't have an appetite – nor had she slept particularly well knowing the test results were coming later that day. Though Dani appreciated Andre's offer for her to join him jogging as a distraction, she didn't feel up to it and received a start when her medical portal put up a notification – though it was only a prescription refill reminder. Andre agreed to go to the club to exercise so he could pick up a lobster dish for Dani, but he advised her to close her laptop and put down her phone so she could stop ramping up her suspense.

After recalling how Dani's first reaction to learning she had possibility inherited the BRCA mutation was to want to talk to Bill, Andre ran into Jacob at the club, and the two talked about how their wives were and weren't dealing with the cancer-related upheaval. Andre noted that it had taken Dani a long time to realize she could count on him, and Jacob felt that Andre was a far better man for Dani than Bill had ever been.

Andre put in his order for Dani's craving at the bar, where he found Carlton. They discussed the stress that Dani and Nicole were enduring waiting for their test results; Andre said he was all in on sticking by Dani no matter how things turned out.

Nicole visited Martin and Smitty, who offered to whip up a healthy smoothie. Martin smiled that Smitty had also been loading him up on nutrition in light of the chance he could have inherited the BRCA gene. Nicole got a call from Carlton, who wanted her to know that he was thinking of her. Martin was amazed that Carlton was being so effusive considering that Nicole had friend zoned him, but he got a shock when Nicole clarified that she had decided to date Carlton after all. She knew that it was strange for Martin to hear about his mother being with someone besides his father, and when Martin disapproved of Ted's best friend and business partner going after Nicole, Smitty piped up that Martin might want to follow Vernon's advice and “choose silence.”

At the Dupree mansion, Anita was ready to leave for her first chemo appointment but told Vernon that she had changed his mind about his accompanying her. Vernon chuckled that both Dani and Nicole had pressed him to attend the appointment, so Anita was outvoted. She didn't like that, but the renewed rumble of Leslie's “shouse” being constructed across the street made her more anxious to take her leave. After Anita saw that Vernon had stuffed her “chemo go bag” with extra goodies, she said he'd have to come along now, since she wouldn't be able to carry it.

Nicole received a text that her results were in. Her phone started acting up, so Smitty handed her his tablet to use...and Nicole learned that she was not a carrier of the BRCA gene. After sighing relief with her son and son-in-law, Nicole's next step was to call Dani, who had Naomi at her side. Dani had Naomi refresh her portal while she had Nicole on the phone, but Naomi's dour expression told Dani everything she needed to know: she did have the mutation.

Dani tried to call Andre, but instead of reaching him, she heard the buzz of the phone he had left behind elsewhere in the room. She asked Naomi to deliver the news to Chelsea in person; just as Chelsea and Kat were trying to find ways to capitalize on their product not being chosen for the Golden Globes after all, Naomi arrived and told her sister that they now both needed to get tested. Kat acknowledged how horrible she had been about the idea of being screened herself and pledged to be there for anyone in the family who needed her.

At Garland, a nurse attached a chemo drip to Anita's port and explained that the procedure would take a few hours, during which Anita may end up feeling drowsy. Vernon cracked that they'd finally found a way to get the always active Anita to sit still.

Martin, having been tasked by Nicole to inform Vernon since she was heading straight to Dani's, didn't know how he was supposed call his grandfather while his grandmother was getting chemo in the same room. Smitty advised his husband to lead with the good news that Nicole wasn't a carrier, which Martin still felt was poor consolation. Martin finally forced himself to make the call; Vernon answered it quietly, as Anita had indeed fallen asleep in her chair. Vernon took in the news that, while Nicole hadn't tested positive for BRCA, Dani had. After hanging up, Anita groggily asked if she had missed anything. Had the test results come in? Vernon lied that he hadn't heard anything yet.

Chelsea, Naomi, and Kat all rushed to Dani's side. Dani determined she was made of tough stuff, though Chelsea was sorry that Dani was always having to prove it. Naomi reminded Dani that she was still healthy – Dani concurred but wanted to lie down owing to her lack of sleep. Once Dani had gone upstairs, Nicole entered and wondered how her sister was doing. Her nieces explained that Dani was doing her best to present a hardened front, while Kat apologized to Nicole for skipping Anita's party and being so stubborn about refusing the BRCA test. Nicole told Kat that she had nothing to be sorry for, then went upstairs to find Dani weeping, not sleeping. Dani allowed her older sister to cuddle her as she struggled to accept that she was a carrier of Anita's genetic variant.
