On Beyond the Gates, Vernon read a newspaper piece about the mysterious body discovered in the park and thought back to telling Bill that they were accessories to murder. The doorbell rang, and Vernon found Tracy and Sharon at the door. Sharon was torqued because Anita had ghosted them after begging them to reform the group. Anita appeared, and Tracy said she and Sharon just wanted to finish their conversation. Sharon was irritated because Anita had gotten them dreaming again, only to cut out when things didn't go her way.

Anita conceded the point, but added that neither Tracy nor Sharon had given her or the reunion concert a real chance because of their lingering resentments toward her. Sharon snarked that she'd get on her knees for “your Majesty” if it meant Anita would reconsider, but Anita didn't feel her old friends really knew her. Vernon brought the feuding women tea, and all three agreed they wanted Vernon's input. He kindly inferred that they had been acting like they were in junior high; Tracy got the message, but Sharon declared that Anita had “run back into [her] gated community the second it [got] tough.”

Tracy elaborated: she felt that, on the one hand, Anita was right about her and Sharon only having half-heartedly put themselves into the show – on the other, by taking charge, Anita hadn't realized that she was opening up old wounds. Anita said she had tried not to live in the past and wasn't sure there was anything more to say. Vernon cut in and asked what it was that had made The Articulettes stand out in a sea of girl groups. Anita posited that they had written songs about their lives, and Tracy added that it had been like they were three sides to the same person. “No...four,” Tracy corrected.

Anita acknowledged that there wouldn't even have been a group if Barbara hadn't brought them together, and sensed that Sharon and Tracy still hadn't forgiven her for allowing Barbara to be kicked out of the act. La Dupree confessed that she hadn't forgiven herself, either. Vernon suggested that the trio leave the past behind and take every forward step in memory of the quartet they had been. Sharon became willing, and Tracy professed that she and Sharon hadn't been blameless in excising Barbara themselves. Vernon declared that the women still had music – and magic – in them.

The former senator didn't think that the Articulettes needed to put pressure on themselves about one concert healing all their hurts. He counseled the women to work in a D.C. studio and strip everything down to the music. Sharon and Tracy granted that they did all have music in common; Sharon reached for Anita's hand, and the singers rededicated themselves to doing the show. Anita caught herself making studio arrangements and switched to telling Tracy and Sharon that she would send them some potential locations for them all to peruse instead. The two were grateful for Anita being more considerate of them; after they left, Anita reminded Vernon that he was still “on the hook” for not having told her sooner what Martin had been going through with “Kenneth.” Vernon promised there'd be no more secrets.

At Orphey Gene's, Chelsea told Kat how she and Madison had been confronted by Allison, who acted obsessed with her. Kat wondered if there was any “heat” left between Chelsea and Allison, but Kat got a text from Ted and had to leave before Chelsea could answer. Just then, Allison rushed into the diner bleeding from a gash on her forehead. Allison said she'd tripped, and Chelsea offered to drive Allison to the hospital. “You've always had the biggest heart,” Allison gushed.

In his office, Bill was on a call with Joey, looking over the article about the corpse and remarking that Marcel had done his job by making “Kenneth's" murder look like a botched robbery. Bill complained that Vernon had moral issues with how they had neutralized the threat “Kenneth” had presented. Afterwards, Tomás came into the office, and Bill told his mentee that owning one's own firm often meant making tough decisions without receiving thanks for them. Tomás handed Bill a just-delivered envelope that contained stills from Hayley's ultrasound. Hayley breezed in and told Bill that there had been an issue with the promised video from the procedure, but that she had at least managed to get screen captures for him.

Bill was anxious to know the gender of their child; Hayley apprised her husband that she was only ten weeks along and that such information wasn't available yet. However, Bill regretted not getting to hear the baby's heartbeat during the procedure and wanted Hayley to schedule another ultrasound. After Tomás left, Hayley pondered whether Bill was taking on too much – Martin's press conference, for example. She wanted to know what had been on his phone that had prompted Martin to put an end to the presser, while Bill reiterated that he wanted Hayley to have a second scan.

Countering, Hayley wanted to be sure that Bill “stepping back into the Dupree orbit” wasn't going to result in his having a stroke again. Bill assured Hayley he was fine, but mentioned that he wasn't Vernon's favorite person at the moment...and that he would tell Hayley what was going on when the time was right. Hayley smiled that that time was usually right before she discovered the truth for herself. Bill took a detour and revealed that he had tasked Tomás with keeping an eye on Chelsea and Naomi through Kat. Hayley was surprised that Bill had chosen “the Hamilton way” instead of just texting his daughters more often. Bill loved that Hayley “got” him, and the parents-to-be pledged there wouldn't be secrets between each other.

Kat arrived at Ted's hotel room; Ted said he hadn't texted his daughter. Eva appeared and admitted she'd made it look like Ted had sent a message because she wanted to get them together to clear things up. Kat made ready to leave when Eva apologized for the neglect in renewing the clinic's accreditation license, which had caused Ted trouble; Kat flashed back to daring Eva to tell Ted she had sabotaged her. As Kat held her breath, Eva presented Ted with a fresh certificate, as she had been able to put a rush on the clinic's inspection.

After Kat grumbled that Eva had still earned the clinic a fine, Eva smiled that she had gotten it waived by explaining that the renewal had slipped through the cracks because of the sudden departure of her predecessor – Kat. Ted was thrilled, and Eva thanked the annoyed Kat for shouldering the blame – especially, Eva said knowingly...because it wasn't like the accreditation slip-up had been Kat's fault. Once Eva departed, Kat claimed nausea over Ted's “proud dad vibe.”

Kat lied that she would never create the situation of the delinquent certificate in the first place and scoffed that one win didn't change who Eva was. Ted retorted that Eva was Kat's sister (“Half-sister,” Kat sniffed) and that he still hoped his daughters would develop that relationship. He wouldn't let Kat blame Eva for his affair with Leslie and held firm that Kat hating Eva wasn't going to make Ted's mistake go away. “She hurt Mom! She hurt me!” Kat protested. Ted laid the responsibility on “Dana” and himself alone, but Kat questioned whether Ted would be able to just forget it all when Leslie finally went to jail.

Kat went on that Eva should share a cell with Eva, who was now living in the same hotel as Ted and working Kat's old job; it was as if Eva had her claws in everything Kat cared about...including Tomás. Ted didn't think Eva would go after her sister's boyfriend, but Kat relayed how Eva had invited Tomás to her hotel room – though she left out that she had become aware of it while she was hiding under Eva's bed. Kat called Eva a snake and Tomás as naïve about Eva as Ted was, then took her leave.

Tomás ran into Eva at the diner, and the two raved over the romantic ending to the first book in the series they were reading. Eva offered to loan Tomás the second installment, and talk turned to Eva's new job, which Eva said she had nearly lost because of Kat. Tomás asked Eva to explain; she hesitantly covered how Kat had come in to train her and lied about the certificate renewal being urgent. Tomás was disheartened that Kat had set Eva up and reflected that Kat had to have known Eva would go to Ted. Eva noted that she'd stayed quiet because she hadn't wanted to cause more trouble between Ted and Kat; Tomás credited Eva with trying to atone for what she had done, while Kat was stuck in a revenge loop.

“Maybe it's good we never – ” Tomás started to say before cutting himself off. Eva wanted to know what Tomás meant; Tomás wouldn't expound but promised Eva he wouldn't tell Kat that Eva had ratted her out. Eva was glad there was at least one person in her life she could trust; Tomás held Eva's hand and attributed it to fate. They hugged, but soon the embrace turned into a passionate kiss.

Shanice arranged a date with Derek, hoping to be picked up in his fire truck. She shared that she didn't know if they were making extravagant plans just to make Ashley jealous – just as Ashley walked by. Ashley let Shanice know she had heard, then Madison came to the nurses station and praised Ashley for picking up on a patient's diagnosis that others had missed. Ashley said she had learned from shadowing Shanice. Abruptly, Chelsea came into the hospital with the bleeding Allison; while Allison was being examined, Madison clinically said, “Just tell me what happened to your girlfriend.”

Chelsea promised Madison that she was her girlfriend, after which Madison asked how Allison had gotten hurt. Madison implied that Allison had lied about falling outside the diner and smirked that she was surprised Allison hadn't faked memory loss so she could act like she was still involved with Chelsea – Madison then wondered how Allison had conveniently found Chelsea in her time of need. Later, Madison told Allison she would be fine, but that she wanted to run a few tests to find out what was inside “that head of [hers].” Chelsea joined them, then privately heard from Madison that Allison hadn't suffered any significant damage. Madison didn't appreciate Chelsea's joke about girls hitting their heads on sidewalks to be near her and exited to see other patients.

A squeamish Allison wanted Chelsea to hold her hand when Chelsea came back to her room. Allison observed Chelsea referring to Madison as “Dr. Montgomery” and said she didn't have to tip-toe around the duo being...“whatever.” Exasperated, Chelsea maintained that she and Madison were in love; she just hadn't wanted to mention it while Allison was dealing with an injury. When Chelsea suggested she could get Martin the congressman to see about having the sidewalk where Allison had tripped fixed, Allison sheepishly divulged that she hadn't fallen.

Chelsea had already figured out that Craig had caused Allison's contusion. Allison confirmed that Craig had pushed her so hard that she had lost her balance and smacked her head on the kitchen table, after which she had left him. Chelsea was glad that Allison had gotten out and was upset to learn that Craig had shoved Allison because she wasn't over Chelsea. When Chelsea asked why Allison had gone to Orphey Gene's and not directly to the hospital, Allison took Chelsea's hand and said she had done so because Chelsea was there. Madison came in and witnessed the exchange.

Shanice joked to Ashley about a developing love triangle – she could tell the tension was thick between Madison, Chelsea, and Allison. Ashley wanted to return to the topic of Shanice making Ashley jealous. Shanice flipped it and called Ashley out for trying to make Derek jealous with Andre – “I don't think I ever heard you whisper that loud,” Shanice commented. Ashley denied the action, but Shanice didn't want Ashley involving her in any games. “Glass houses and all that,” Shanice harrumphed.

Bill took a call from Ted with Hayley in the room. “Have you seen the paper?” Ted asked worriedly. As Bill rose to continue his talk with Ted in private, Hayley piped up, “No secrets, my ass!” When Bill left, Hayley dialed her own phone and asked the person on the other line if they were okay. “You had me worried!” Hayley lamented. She asked if the person needed anything; being told “no,” Hayley said she would be in touch and hung up.
