Here's what went down Tuesday, June 10, 2025 on Beyond the Gates when Dani was nearly caught with her pants down, Andre's footage became mobile, and Vernon told Naomi about her great-uncle Cornelius.
What happened on Beyond the Gates

On Beyond the Gates, Vernon was surprised that Anita had given up so easily on The Articulettes reunion, since she had wanted it so badly. Anita felt it was up to Sharon and Tracy, who weren't likely to do the show after Anita had thrown them out of her house; Anita changed the subject and decided she and Vernon needed to check on daughter Dani, who was probably having difficulty around Bill being in the hospital. As the Duprees opened the door to leave, they found Sharon and Tracy on the step. Anita sniffed that she'd forgotten to revoke their temporary passes into Fairmont Crest. Tracy demanded to have her say and pushed past the couple, with Sharon close behind.
As Vernon exited to check on Dani alone, Anita told her former co-singers that the idea of reuniting had been a nice dream, but that not all dreams came true. Tracy barked that since Anita and Sharon had both said their piece, it was their turn to listen: she'd had enough of the fighting, and none of it would bring Barbara back. Nor did Tracy think Barbara would have wanted so much derision between the women she had loved.
Anita and Sharon were in agreement that there might be too much pain to ever actually do an Articulettes comeback concert. Tracy picked up the picture of the four future singers, which Anita had been packing away, and asked if Sharon and Anita remembered those girls who had been so loyal to each other. Sharon's voice cracked as she acknowledged the memory, and Tracy recalled how her three compatriots had dragged her out of bed after days of mourning her father there. “The love was real,” Tracy stated. She knew that they couldn't be the girls in the photo anymore, but they could be the women in that room.
When Anita spoke of the emotional roller coaster she had been on since the reunion was first suggested, Sharon gently asked what Anita was feeling in that moment. “Hopeful,” Anita professed. She knew that she had made mistakes and caused hurt, but she could still sense the sisterhood between them and affirmed a willingness to try. “Tracy is right,” Sharon said, causing her friends to do a double-take. Sharon conceded that carrying around so much anger was exhausting and that, while she had spent decades fantasizing about telling Anita off, doing so hadn't actually made her feel any better. They would never know if resurrecting the act – and their friendship – would work if they didn't give it a shot. The women hugged, marking their peacemaking.
Andre woke Dani with kisses, noting that she had tossed and turned all night and assuming it was because of Bill's hospitalization. Dani questioned her concern, as she knew Bill would be fine as long as he followed doctor's orders...which he probably wouldn't. She recalled how Bill had once thrown out his back during sex and tried to play it off the resulting hurt as gas. Andre proclaimed that Dani had a huge heart for still caring about Bill after everything he had put her through.
Dani thought back to the previous day with her daughters and Hayley connecting over Bill's stroke, admitting that she'd had a moment where she couldn't remember why she'd hated Hayley so much. When Andre understood Dani's worry over the man she had been married to, Dani smiled that Andre was too good in bed to be so sensitive. Andre decided to reinforce his sensitivity with another round of lovemaking.
After their latest romp, Dani turned serious and confessed that she wanted Andre, but also that something inside her had broken when Bill left her. She wanted to fix it, but wasn't sure how; she lovingly stroked Andre's face when he offered to help. But the moment was interrupted when they heard Vernon calling for Dani from downstairs. Dani responded, barely hiding her desperation; she threw on a robe and told Andre not to move.
The Hawthornes seated themselves at Orphey Gene's; Jacob noticed that Naomi was preoccupied with work...and that she hadn't slept well. When Jacob asked what time they should visit Bill, Naomi matter-of-factly announced that she wasn't going to. Afterwards, Jacob called Vernon, who was waiting for Dani, and reported that something was off with Naomi. Deciding that Dani didn't need any more upset, Vernon headed to the diner and shouted up to Dani – next to a bottle of Tide – that he'd be back later.
When Dani signaled an all clear, Andre joined her in her living room and reminded her that she was allowed to have lovers. Dani agreed, but she didn't want them anywhere near her father. She confessed that she loved being with Andre, but let him know he was sleeping with “an ungodly mess.” After they got dressed, they both needed to stop by the hospital, and Dani caught herself once she suggested they ride in together. Andre grinned that, when Dani was ready, he'd make an honest woman out of her. “Too late for that,” Dani teased.
Jacob was confused that Naomi had been so distressed about Bill the day before, but now she just wanted to move on, saying Bill didn't need her. When Vernon arrived, Naomi revealed that she felt the way she did because she had put Bill in the hospital to begin with; she blamed herself for not pushing Bill to go to the doctor after the precursor symptoms she had witnessed. Vernon cryptically mentioned someone he knew who had nearly eaten herself up with guilt over the death of a friend and was adamant that Naomi bore no responsibility for Bill's stroke. If anything, Vernon added, Bill was “damn lucky” that his daughters still wanted anything to do with him.
Vernon told Naomi about his uncle, Cornelius, who had fallen into ill health mourning the assassination of his friend, Martin Luther King. While playing basketball, Cornelius had dropped to his knees and dismissed Vernon's concern, so Vernon opted not to tell anyone about the incident. That evening, however, Cornelius had been hospitalized with a stroke, which had taken him a very long time to recover from; Vernon had been overwhelmed with remorse for not informing his family about Cornelius's health issue, but Cornelius had assured him that his stroke had been a long time coming and that Vernon had in no way been culpable. “Now go tell your father to focus on getting better,” Vernon advised his grateful granddaughter.
Chelsea followed Madison around the hospital, live-streaming her and asking how she'd become a neurologist at such a young age. Madison deemed herself boring, having graduated high school early and doubling up on college and med school courses to become a doctor that much faster. After the stream, Madison expressed surprise over how much she had enjoyed it and marveled that “social media guru” Chelsea always let so many people into her life. “My carefully curated life,” Chelsea corrected. Her followers only saw what she wanted to reveal. Madison couldn't decide if she liked or disliked Chelsea being different, and had to leave to do rounds. Chelsea was happy when Madison also hoped they'd see each other again soon.
Bill conducted business from his hospital bed, causing Ashley to scold him. He proclaimed that rest was for the weak and that he didn't want to have to be given permission just to take a walk around the hospital. Bill nearly fell out of bed trying to retrieve his fallen Bluetooth headset; Ashley caught him just as Hayley entered. Seeing their hold on each other, Hayley snarked that Bill seemed to be feeling better. Bill joked that Ashley had been coming on to him and that it was grounds for him to leave the hospital immediately. Hayley winked that she wasn't aware that Bill had suffered brain damage.
Ashley squealed that Bill had been on work calls since 6 am. Hayley gathered up the legal files someone had obviously snuck in and recommended that Bill read parenting books instead, since he hadn't raised an infant in a long time. Bill asked how Hayley was doing and if his situation was causing her and the baby undue stress. Hayley replied that she was fine, but that she could do without another scare like Bill's collapse.
Madison ran Bill through some more tests – she still saw weakness on Bill's right side, but not as much as before. Bill became frustrated that the treatments he'd so far received wasn't making him as good as new and he seemed unwilling to participate in his recovery any more than he already had. Hayley rolled her eyes when Dani arrived, but Dani assured everyone she wasn't there to interrupt. Bill didn't want to hear Madison's opinion that he required rehab.
Bill was annoyed that he couldn't go home that day. Madison alerted Bill that he could start physical therapy already and brought in the specialist she strongly recommended – Shanice. Everyone was surprised to hear that, while Shanice indeed functioned as Garland's nurses' supervisor, she had started out in PT. Bill scoffed at the idea of a nurse working on him, but Shanice conveyed that she was still currently serving as a physical therapist alongside her management duties; both Hayley and Dani endorsed Shanice.
Dani bit her tongue when Hayley declared to Shanice that Bill wanted to be well enough to teach their “little Hamilton” to swim and ride a bike. Shanice told Bill that they'd be seeing a lot of each other, prompting him to utter, “Oh, joy.” Hayley asked Dani to leave so she and Bill could have a private moment – Dani cordially agreed, but Bill stopped her before she exited and thanked her for checking on him.
Andre, who had come by the hospital to deliver all of his raw documentary footage, couldn't find the person he was to give it to, so he asked Ashley to ensure the person got it. Ashley wondered if the reason the admins wanted the entirety of the footage had something to do with the case against Leslie. Elsewhere, Chelsea thanked Madison for her professionalism in caring for her father. When Dani left Bill's room, she saw Andre with Ashley and Madison with Chelsea, moving to Andre and asking him to have breakfast with her. Ashley somberly watched Andre and Dani as they departed.
Andre took Dani to Orphey Gene's; he held her hand at the table, and she wondered if they should be affectionate in public. As she retracted her hand, she noted that her interaction with Bill at the hospital had been a lot like they used to relate when they were married...except for Hayley being a spectator. Andre still wanted to help take away Dani's pain – she guaranteed he already was, in more ways than he knew. Dani just didn't know if she'd be able to prevent hurting him.
Naomi and Jacob came to see Bill, who called his stroke much ado about nothing. Hayley was moved when Naomi expressed her sincere thanks for taking care of Bill and getting him to the hospital so quickly. Jacob and Hayley left father and daughter to have some time alone; Naomi had brought Bill some banana pudding from Orphey Gene's, but when Shanice came in for her first session with Bill, she snatched the treat away, to Naomi's amusement.
Anita rushed to Vernon when he came home and notified him that she was travelling to Chicago immediately to begin Articulettes rehearsals with Tracy and Sharon. When Mr. Dupree asked why the group couldn't reconstruct their act in D.C., Mrs. Dupree said she needed to return to her roots and confront everything about the past that had been holding her back.
