On Beyond the Gates, Leslie was heavy into a TV show when Jacob and his back-up officer returned. When Leslie was ready to hear their apology for searching her apartment, Jacob presented a second search warrant, which made Leslie wonder if the police had received a tip – from Kat in particular. Jacob advised Leslie to have a lawyer explain the search to her while Leslie tried to distract him with offers of coffee and descriptions of her show, on which the love-to-hate bad girl became the heroine who got a second chance. If only real life were like that, Leslie mused.

Jacob ordered Leslie to sit down and be quiet, or else be ejected into the hall until the end of the search. Leslie grudgingly obeyed, and Jacob found her motorcycle helmet and gloves in the ottoman, where Kat had placed them. Leslie barely hid her shock, trying to stay calm while grabbing at the helmet, which Jacob wouldn't let her touch; she felt it odd that the officers had found nothing during their first search, but now the helmet was conveniently in her apartment. Jacob wondered if Leslie was accusing him of evidence tampering and left with the items, after which Leslie told herself, inspired by her show, “Spoiler alert: I win!”

At Orphey Gene's, Chelsea and Kat toasted to the countdown of ChelseaKat's launch. Kat asked into her cousin's live-stream with “Dr. Hottie” and didn't believe Chelsea's claim that there was “no heat” with Madison. Kat had assumed Chelsea was ready to tell the rest of the family about her sexual orientation, but Chelsea had doubts about Bill's potential reaction. She revealed that she had been about to come out to Bill when she was blindsided by the news of Hayley's pregnancy, and now with Bill having had a stroke... Chelsea felt it wasn't the right time and wanted to concentrate on their launch, but even with Chelsea silent, Kat could tell that the only thing on her mind was Madison.

Chelsea and Kat lamented not having the space they needed for production and storage at their mutual apartments, with Kat bummed that they couldn't afford to rent a warehouse. Kat was in when Chelsea suggested Dani's guest house – and that they live together there – but Kat did warn that the move would place Chelsea just a few feet away from the not-always-boundary-respecting Dani. Chelsea realized she'd have to decide if living on Dani's property would be worth it.

Jacob found the cousins and asked to speak to Kat; after Chelsea excused herself, Jacob reported that he had located Leslie's gloves and helmet, though they hadn't been in her apartment during the first search. When Jacob shared his feeling that the evidence had been planted, Kat saw Eva as the logical choice – then realized he was pointing his finger at her. Kat didn't think it mattered how the telltale items had gotten back into Leslie's place, but Jacob did – though he did add that his specialist was analyzing the helmet at that moment to determine if it was the one worn by the biker who had caused Laura's accident.

Both Kat and Jacob lit up when the analyst called Jacob to confirm a visual match on the helmet and gloves, which meant he could move forward with getting a DNA swab from Leslie to corroborate those findings. “We are so close to putting that bitch away for good!” Kat chirped. “Next stop, Eva.” But Jacob's next call was from a judge who wouldn't let Jacob proceed with obtaining DNA from Leslie because of the fact that helmet hadn't been found during the initial search. And without that DNA, Jacob said...they were dead in the water.

Bill raised his weakened arm and declared that he didn't need physical therapy, but Hayley insisted that rehab would be best for his recovery. Shanice walked in while Bill was complaining about wanting to go back to work, declaring he had work to do right there in his room. “Let's not and say that we did,” he scoffed. Shanice remained friendly but firm, and put Bill through his first exercise. Bill became frustrated when he could crumple a piece of paper with his left hand but not his right; he chucked one of the paper balls across the room, hitting the entering Madison.

After being called intractable, Bill said he would be in a much better mood if he could do his PT from home. Madison informed Bill that he couldn't leave the hospital until he gave her a reason to release him; he swore that he had never felt better. As Shanice had Bill doing shoulder rolls, Madison asked if his daughter would be coming to visit; when the Hamiltons mentioned Naomi, Madison clarified that she was asking about Chelsea.

As Madison remarked on how different lawyer Naomi and influencer Chelsea were, Bill accused Madison of making queries about his daughters as a way of testing his cognitive abilities. Madison stated that she just liked getting to know the families of her patients, and Hayley remarked that she had seen Madison on Chelsea's social media feed. When Bill, continuing his exercises, wasn't fond of so many people having online access to his daughter, Madison's face fell.

Chelsea came by the hospital for an update on Bill. Shanice described him as ornery and Madison said he was strong-willed, causing Chelsea to apologize for Madison being put through the wringer by her dad. Madison assured Chelsea that Bill was rapidly improving and that, once stubborn patients got out of their own way, they were the ones to make the quickest recoveries. An emotional Chelsea admitted that she and Bill hadn't been in a good place before his stroke – but thanks to Madison, there was a chance for that relationship to heal. Madison attributed Bill's stroke not being worse to Hayley's quick thinking. Chelsea made Madison promise never to repeat her statement, “Thank God for Hayley.” After further discussing the fact that Bill's recovery depended on him, Madison asked Chelsea out for dinner.

Anita checked in with Vernon from Chicago, saying that being there again with Tracy and Sharon made them all feel like they had when they had been 17 and just starting out. She had passed by where the Cabrini-Green projects used to stand and wondered if she'd have gotten out without meeting the two surviving singers and Barbara, though Anita noted that she and Sharon and Tracy were still tiptoeing around each other, which made her want to come home. Vernon promised to hold down the fort, and Anita thanked him for making the reunion possible.

Nicole found Laura still trying to adjust to being back at work, especially given the changes Eva had made to the running of the office. Laura hesitated to ask if Eva could come by again and walk her through the upgrades to the computer system, which Laura had to admit were more efficient than what she'd been using; Nicole revealed she had spoken to Eva and was willing to let her help if she wanted to.

When Laura sensed that Nicole missed Eva, Nicole conceded to missing the Eva she thought she'd known – yet, Eva had lied from the moment she'd begun working for her. At Eva's hotel, however, Nicole hadn't perceived any more deception. She was confused and faulted herself for not seeing Eva coming. Laura tried to make Nicole feel better, but Nicole also noted that Ted had lied to her for years and that she hadn't picked up on that, either. She'd had the perfect life, so she'd thought; now no one was happy.

Eva joined Laura and was relieved to hear that Nicole had given permission for Eva to stop by. When Laura started asking softball questions that she should already know the answers to, Eva suspected that Laura had summoned her for another reason. Laura admitted that Nicole missed Eva, who exclaimed that she didn't get to have a relationship with Nicole anymore after what she did. Hearing Laura's insistence that Eva should be open to one the next time she saw Nicole, Eva noted how hard it would be to set herself up for rejection...but for Nicole, she'd do it.

While Laura thanked Eva for getting her clear on Eva's file-keeping system, Eva received a call from Leslie to her voicemail. Eva expressed her own gratitude to Laura for allowing her to do something useful. When Eva wished she had done right by the Richardsons sooner, Laura observed that Eva was getting closer to Ted, and Laura was sure that Nicole would come around in due time; Laura could see that Eva really cared about Nicole. Eva's phone buzzed a second time; Eva took the call in another room and demanded of Leslie, “Can't you just text like a normal person?”

“This is not a drill,” Leslie told her daughter dramatically. “It is the end of the world as we know it.” Eva went to her mother's apartment and got yanked inside; Leslie screeched that the helmet and gloves that Eva had made off with had suddenly been back in her residence for the police to find. Eva asserted that she'd taken the items to cover for Leslie, and that if she had wanted Leslie in jail, she would have just left the items in the apartment, which the cops would have found during their first search.

Leslie cried, not caring about the helmet. “You don't love me anymore, do you, Eva?” she asked. Eva countered that she'd love Leslie no matter what she did, but said that Leslie should never have targeted Laura. When Leslie began to protest, Eva vowed that she had hidden the gloves and helmet in her hotel room, and that she had no idea how they found their way back to Leslie's. Leslie nodded in acknowledgement as Eva said she would never do anything to hurt her mom. Eva advised Leslie to rest and stay out of the dark place that had gotten them into the mess in the first place. Leslie took Eva's hand, and mother and daughter hugged just before Eva departed. To herself, Leslie crowed, “Leslie Thomas is here to stay!”

Vernon had Nicole and Dani over; his daughters were worried when his intentions were shrouded in secrecy. Once the Dupree girls were together, he joyfully told them that The Articulettes were back together – and that Anita would be away for the next few weeks rehearsing. Dani was surprised about the long absence but happy for Anita, while Nicole seemed punched in the gut. She burst into tears, saying her mother couldn't be gone at that moment. Nicole regained control of herself, and Vernon intuited that Nicole needed to talk to Anita; the patriarch said that the matriarch was still only a phone call away. Dani said that Nicole still had her, and, while she hadn't inherited Anita's grace, she did know what it was like to be betrayed by the man she loved.

Dani took her sister to her house, set a coffee cup before her, and commanded her to throw it. Nicole said that wasn't her, causing Dani to pipe up that shooting up a country club hadn't been her, either. When Nicole continued to resist, Dani chucked her own cup and announced that nothing that was broken in one's life was under their control. Nicole hadn't chosen to break; she had been broken, and now it was her turn to choose to break something. With that, Nicole smashed the cup and proclaimed the experience oddly satisfying.

The Dupree sisters stood with an increasing amount of broken china at their feet, giggling. Dani encouraged Nicole to shout during her next volley, and afterwards Dani pictured Bill on her cup, saying, “Damn you for having a stroke and making me care about you when I was thisclose to forgetting all about you.” Smash! Nicole decided to place Ted on hers, cursing him for making her love him when, all the while, he was carrying around the secret of his affair. Smash! Dani cracked up when Nicole added a “skankarooni!” to her hurl. Together, Nicole and Dani broke their next cups by yelling “skanarooni!” and laughing their heads off.
