On Beyond the Gates, Kat was on a phone call at the country club when Eva approached her. Eva had put it together that Kat had gotten into her hotel room and behaved like a common thief. “I'm not a common anything,” Kat scoffed. Eva warned Kat that Leslie was “a whole storm” who didn't go away until she wanted to, so it was senseless to keep trying to have Leslie arrested. As Kat rolled her eyes, Eva advised her to follow Martin's lead and “accept the new world order.”

Ted ran into his friend and associate Carlton at the country club. After discussing medical seminars, Carlton was amazed to learn that Ted and Nicole hadn't made up yet. As he remarked that, in Ted's situation, he would be moving heaven and earth to win Nicole back, and not have blown his marriage in the first place, Nicole herself walked in. “Too bad Ted isn't as smart as you,” Nicole smirked. When Ted said that Nicole looked terrific, she attributed it to the “ceramics therapy” she had partaken in. Nicole moved on to a yoga class, and Ted rued that his wife didn't seem to need him for anything anymore.

Carlton observed that it was best for a man to merely be the “frosting” on the cake of a woman and offered further assistance, “up to and including making a play for Nicole” – to make Ted look good. Ted was offended and swore he'd persuade Nicole to forgive him soon, while Carlton advised Ted to hurry up before Nicole met someone else.

Back at Nicole's, Mona was delighted to see Kat, but when Kat mentioned Mona's past friendship with Leslie, Mona expressed regret for “bringing that viper into your family.” Kat suggested that Mona could be the one to rid everyone of Leslie – following, Mona had Leslie meet her at Orphey Gene's.

Jacob and Marcel dropped in for a drink at Uptown after a difficult arrest. Marcel saw Jacob eyeing Leslie at the bar, snarking that Jacob was married. Jacob filled Marcel in on his investigation into Leslie and how a judge had prevented Jacob from obtaining Leslie's DNA, which would cinch the case. Marcel held that there were times rules needed to be broken and commented that Jacob was so passionate about his fact-finding because Leslie had impacted his family. Jacob didn't disagree, adding his opinion that Leslie was a threat to public safety.

Marcel didn't find Leslie particularly menacing, but recalled that, back in the day, the force had a way of dealing with “undesirables” when district attorneys wouldn't press charges. Jacob knew how things used to be handled and felt that things were better now that his father was in charge of the department. Marcel again ragging Jacob about not being willing to bend the rules was interrupted when Jacob took a phone call, asking, “What the hell could you possibly want from me now?”

At the diner, Mona allayed Leslie's concern about being led into a trap and apologized for lashing out at her. Leslie told Mona it was very “Christian” of Laura to bear no grudge against Eva; as Leslie extended her hand, anticipating Mona's like forgiveness, Kat watched from afar, smiling. While Mona admitted she wasn't quite ready to forgive, Leslie took note of Kat seating herself at a nearby booth. Mona said that her anger had died down and that she'd found herself willing to hear Leslie's side of things. Leslie divulged that she had done her best to move on from Ted, but that she had never gotten over him – and, when her husband, Alan, had died, “something snapped.”

Jacob sidled into Kat's booth, annoyed that she had gotten him to the diner until the false pretense of wanting closure on the case. Kat was stunned when Jacob sniffed that she and Leslie had a lot in common. “Comparing me to Satan in a wig? Nice one, Jacob,” Kat retorted. Kat affirmed she was simply determined, and she had been so because Leslie and Eva had gone after her family – if anyone had listened to her before, they wouldn't be in this mess, Kat maintained. Jacob shared Kat's exasperation with Leslie still walking around free; Kat promised her cousin-in-law that all would become clear.

As Mona and Leslie talked, Mona indicated that Leslie had something in the corner of her mouth and got her to wipe it away with a napkin. Mona said she understood Leslie wanting Eva to have a relationship with her father, but admonished Leslie for choosing to humiliate Nicole instead of just discussing the matter of Eva with Ted privately; Mona couldn't get past that part of Leslie's actions. Hurt, Leslie bemoaned that she had looked up to Mona – and now Mona had lured her to the diner under the guise of resurrecting their friendship, only to reject her. Leslie accused Mona of being as mean as Mona claimed Leslie was and left.

As soon as Leslie was out of range, Kat donned a pair of gloves and put Leslie's napkin into a plastic bag. Jacob objected, but came around when she pointed out they were in a public place and that no search warrant was necessary there. It registered with Jacob that testing the napkin would reveal whether or not the DNA on it matched the DNA on the motorcycle helmet – if it did, it would be grounds to arrest Leslie.

Derek went to the hospital, as much to see Ashley as to donate blood. Ashley remarked that they hadn't seen each other for a couple of days and suggested they take in a movie. Derek already had plans, and upon seeing Ashley's disappointment, he asked if they were okay. Ashley said they were fine; when Ashley relayed that she was having dinner with Jan the following night, she offered to reschedule her mom so she and Derek could see each other. The couple agreed they had fallen out of sync, but just as Derek asked how they might get back on track, Ashley had to check in on a patient.

Later, Ashley saw Andre, who told her that the reason hospital higher-ups wanted to see Andre's documentary footage had nothing to do with Leslie being on the security cam, as the two had hypothesized. Andre announced that the project was done, so he wouldn't be around, pelting Ashley with questions all the time. He saw Ashley's distress, after which Ashley shared her thought that her brief time living with Derek might have caused irreparable harm to their relationship.

Derek spoke with Naomi, telling her that nothing specific was wrong with him and Ashley – they were just being “overly polite.” Naomi was sure that Derek's love for Ashley would be enough to get them through this latest rough patch, but Derek had doubts. After her experience with Bill's stroke, Naomi said she had realized how precious time is and encouraged Derek to make sure Ashley felt appreciated. Derek had a finite number of chances to get things right, Naomi counseled.

Andre pondered the idea that Ashley knew what to do to fix her relationship, but that she might be afraid of the consequences of taking that action. Ashley said there were things she wanted Derek to change, but that bringing them up would make Derek feel criticized and lead to a fight. Separately, both Derek and Ashley wanted to realign their union to where it was before they'd attempted to live together, but neither knew exactly how.

Ted and Eva met for a meal, with both noting they didn't have many people in their respective corners besides each other. Eva said she enjoyed her hairstyling job at Serenity Beauty, but helping Laura had made her realize how much she missed working for Nicole. She had been doing hair since high school, and she had found that her position as Nicole's assistant had allowed her to make a far greater impact. Ted wondered if he and Eva might not be able to help each other: she could take over as his marketing manager at his clinic, a gig Kat had stepped away from to work with Chelsea on her purse line.

Eva was amazed that Ted would want to hire her after how she abused her position with Nicole, which had led to the downfall of the Richardsons' marriage. Ted laid the blame at Leslie's feet, but Eva still felt she was highly underqualified, recalling how Nicole and Ted had once said that Eva would need training before becoming a medical assistant. Ted was still amenable to providing Eva with that education and insisted that he wanted one of his daughters working with him in his office – it was a family business, Ted smiled. Eva was tempted to do it, but was just as concerned about how Kat would feel when she learned her replacement was Eva.

Ted didn't think Kat would care who he hired, but Eva worried that Kat would have to train her. When Ted expressed that Kat working with Eva would make them closer, Eva allowed for the possibility, but knew that Kat hated her. Ted decided that Eva could figure things out on her own and introduced her to his colleague Carlton, as his assistant – and his daughter. Eva accepted the job.

Smitty told Martin that he'd completed his article on Internet groomers and had been given his next assignment: a feature on soon-to-be-retired detective Marcel Malone. Martin's expression became panicked, and he asked Smitty if such a puff piece shouldn't be assigned to someone else; Smitty didn't want to make waves at the paper since he was new on the job. An employee of Martin's, Zack, came to see Martin; after Smitty excused himself, Zack reported that the owner of a small shop in Martin's district had been brutally assaulted in a robbery. As Zack described the attack, Martin flashed back to quick images of a similar assault.

Martin covered with Zack, but when Zack mentioned that the shop owner had nearly died over a couple of hundred dollars, Martin remembered the man in his dreams taunting, “Let's see what color's your money.” After Zack departed, Martin went to see Nicole; they discussed Nicole's state in having Ted out of the house and Anita facing her past by reuniting with The Articulettes. When Martin dejectedly said it must be an emotional time for Anita, Nicole could see that her son was going through one of his own. Martin concurred that he was troubled, and that if he couldn't seek professional advice from the shrink owing to ethics, he at least wanted personal advice from his mother.

Nicole became disturbed by Martin's demeanor, so Martin confessed about the nightmares he'd been having. He could retain flashing lights and screaming, and the dreams, which had stopped for a long period of time, were back with increasing frequency. After hallucinating about the same imagery, Martin was beginning to feel as though he was losing his mind. Nicole proposed that Martin might have had a similar real-life experience, but he couldn't recall as such – he only knew that he felt fear while in the midst of his dreams...and that he met with great guilt once he woke up.

Martin thanked Nicole for listening and agreed to follow up on the list of therapists she planned to send him, since it was her opinion that he required help she couldn't give him. As Martin went to the country club, he was spotted by the stranger who had been tailing him, whose wait staff name tag identified him as Blake. “Blake” took off in pursuit of Martin.
