On Beyond the Gates, Vanessa sensed Joey's desperation to launder money and declared she had the upper hand, which led to them making love again. After Vanessa demanded that Joey forgive Doug's debt and give her an 18% commission on their real estate deals (a portion of which she'd give to Doug), Doug upped the ante by increasing the rate to 20% and letting Joey know that he knew too much for Joey to risk playing him; Vanessa also warned Joey that she could go public with the information she had on him.

Ashley turned down Derek's proposal of marriage, wondering why Derek was trying to rush her to the altar and feeling like he was testing her. Derek became angry, and his sense that she might be holding out for someone better was magnified when he learned that Ashley had shared everything about the situation with Andre. Despite Ashley having a naughty dream about Andre, and Naomi pressuring her to admit if her heart lay elsewhere, Ashley remained mum on the subject, and Derek implied Ashley was interested in someone else but didn't elaborate further.

Though Bill acted like he was fine, refusing physical therapy and a healthier diet following his stroke, he took out a $10 million life insurance policy, with all of it going to Hayley in case something happened to him. Bill came to Chelsea's aid when she was sued for copyright infringement, and Chelsea softened toward Hayley, again expressing her gratefulness for Hayley's care of Bill during the stroke and its aftermath.

Frustrated that the test linking the DNA on Leslie's napkin and the DNA on her motorcycle helmet might not turn up results for months, Kat asked Tomás if she could have a test done by a private company, but Tomás said findings obtained in such a fashion wouldn't hold up in court. Tomás wanted to be intimate, but Kat still wasn't ready to give up her virginity; he tried to remain understanding, though he began losing patience.

June came to Naomi, explaining that a “cleanup crew” had evicted everyone from her homeless encampment and taken all their belongings. When Naomi heard June explaining that the missing picture of the mystery children made her happy, she recruited Jacob to track it down for her. Jacob located a stash of items from the encampment; Naomi was frantic until she found the photo, which made the Hawthornes even more curious.

After Andre suggested that Ted step up his efforts to win Nicole back, Ted sent her more flowers, but Nicole moved to make legal changes that would allow the Richardsons to function as individuals. Sensing divorce was next, Ted insisted Nicole let him come home, but while Nicole missed Ted, she was in search of a sense of self and remained unable to forgive Ted for cheating with Leslie.

Chelsea got to know Madison better during their first date; Madison let Chelsea know that Chelsea's secrets were safe with her. When the evening ended in lovemaking, Chelsea told Dani she was in love, leading Dani to arrange a get-together where the family could meet Madison immediately. Vernon pondered if Chelsea was moving too fast with Madison, owing to her lingering hurt over her parents' divorce.

Dani was uncomfortable to learn that Kat and Chelsea had figured out her fling with Andre, and eventually told him she was afraid he'd leave her the way Bill had. Andre wouldn't answer when Dani queried whether there were other women in his life, but he got Dani to agree it was time to go public. In that spirit, Dani told Nicole about her and Andre, but Nicole was furious that people were still keeping things from her the way Ted had.

Smitty interviewed Marcel, who became tense when the reporter began delving into two large cash deposits Marcel had made, and Marcel's connection to Joey. Marcel ran to Elon, and the two decided they needed to send Smitty a message to stop digging. Meanwhile, Smitty presented his findings to Jacob, who could see Marcel being involved in shady dealings but didn't want to believe his father, Elon, was as well.

Martin confronted “Kenneth,” the busboy, but “Kenneth” denied whispering the phrase from Martin's fateful night into his ear. Vernon had his own talk with “Kenneth,” and determined that he was, in fact, the man from two years prior, though he didn't look the same. Martin had further flashbacks, which revealed both Marcel and Elon were there that night as well. Smitty threatened to drag Martin to therapy himself if Martin didn't get help for his continuing nightmares. “Kenneth” told Martin about the dark night when he'd found Martin changing a tire, the “care” he had received from Martin's family, and the brother he wanted to avenge. The kindly Vernon showed a more commanding side, making angry phone calls on Martin's behalf and telling one caller, “He's back.”

Beyond the Gates airs weekdays on CBS and streams on Paramount Plus.
