On Beyond the Gates, Naomi brought Anita a gift: a rare performance poster from The Articulettes. Anita appreciated it, but she barely hid a surge of emotions and had to walk away. After a moment, Anita returned and told Naomi that the group would not be reuniting for the concert – and that Naomi didn't know the woman Anita had been during its heyday. Anita felt she had earned her sadness, and that she needed to sit with it for a while; she promised her granddaughter she'd be fine.

With Naomi gone, Anita reached into a secret desk compartment and pulled out an old envelope addressed to her. It was a letter from an apparent fourth member of The Articulettes, who reminded Anita how they had reached the goals they'd set when they were girls in the projects – and how Anita had stolen “her” group. She wondered if Anita even had it in her to feel bad about it and berated Anita for the bad influence Dante Green had had on her.

Anita re-read how Dante had kicked this fourth girl out of the very group she had started because her voice hadn't been good enough. The woman remarked how Anita had declined to stand up to Dante on her behalf and that she had only said that show business was tough – Anita had trusted Dante and put her career in his hands instead. La Dupree knew the letter by heart and continued quoting how she had gone on to success while the rejected singer had been left to watch from the sidelines. The letter turned out to be a suicide note, with the writer blaming Anita for her death. Anita broke into uncontrollable sobs.

Dani finished up a phone call and turned around to find Hayley waving a positive pregnancy test in her face. After Dani called the move desperate and asked if Hayley was going to don a prosthetic belly, Hayley said she intended for Naomi and Chelsea to know their little brother or sister. Hayley wanted to enjoy her pregnancy without Dani's chaos; Dani challenged Hayley to take a new test right in front of her, since the one Hayley had produced could have been faked.

Hayley refused to disrobe in front of Dani, who fumed as she said it didn't get much more intimate than sharing someone's husband, “so you can spread your legs for me for once and pee on that stick.” Hayley scoffed that Dani had been doing a pretty good impression of a stable person up until that point. Dani gave Hayley the alternative of letting her watch her get blood drawn for a test whose results would be sent directly to Dani. Hayley called that a violation of HIPAA laws, and when Dani ordered her out, Hayley taunted her with the fact that Bill wanted to name a boy Bill, Jr. Time, Hayley declared, was the only test she'd need.

At Orphey Gene's, Kat was dismayed to see Leslie approaching her table. Leslie was working on getting the restraining order she promised against Kat, but suspected that Kat and the Duprees were throwing up roadblocks in the courts using their influence. Kat said she would admit she was well-connected if Leslie would admit she was “delulu.” Leslie announced she was taking the next step: suing Kat for defaming her. Though Kat accused her of painting herself as the victim, Leslie smirked that there wasn't a shred of positive proof that she had done anything to Laura.

Kat reamed Leslie for trying to seduce Ted in his hotel room; Leslie grinned that she had been wearing the outfit she'd had on when she and Ted had first met. After Kat didn't buy Leslie's claim that Ted was responding to her overtures, Leslie said that people had underestimated her all her life...which is why people never saw her coming; she advised Kat to keep her eyes open.

Andre stopped by the nurses' station at the hospital to see Ashley, who reported that Derek had not moved back in. But when Andre offered to buy Ashley breakfast, Derek arrived and assured him that he and Ashley had reunited. Ashley informed Andre that she and Derek had decided they didn't need to live together to be together. When Derek learned that Andre had stayed by Ashley's side during their bust-up, he wondered why she hadn't mentioned it to him.

Derek was satisfied that Andre had told Ashley any man would be a fool to leave her. Ashley was a little sheepish about her and Derek changing their mind about cohabitating, but Andre enforced that each couple had to define their own parameters. Andre left them to their own devices but seemed sad as he watched them kiss from a distance. After he texted Dani, she invited him over, yet gave him a frosty reception when he got to her house. Dani was upset that Andre had passed on seeing her the last couple of times she'd contacted him.

Andre got Dani to admit that she was in a foul mood because of Hayley; Dani was certain that Bill's infatuation with Hayley was waning and that she was inventing a pregnancy to hang on to him. It bothered Dani that Bill might now be doing all the sweet things for Hayley that he had done for Dani when they were expecting Naomi. Andre didn't want to hear Dani obsessing over Bill again and recommended she put her attention on him – someone who actually gave a damn.

Dani listened as Andre marveled at how being with her was new every time. He felt their connection was real, and, while he'd assumed he'd come home to attend Nicole's awards gala, say a few hellos, and jump on a plane out of town again, he had stayed...and he was changing. Andre attributed it to Ted and Nicole, who had been the blueprint for love. Dani was amazed that the Richardsons' falling out wasn't deterring Andre from wanting a commitment instead; Andre groused that Dani seemed to be the one running from commitment. She didn't even want to be seen in public with him.

Dani realized from that statement that Andre couldn't handle her still hurting from being kicked to the curb by a man who'd said he'd love her forever, and now Andre was dumping her, too. Andre was adamant that he didn't want to break things off, though Dani was confused by his saying he would be okay if his happily-ever-after didn't end up being with her. Dani's deduction was that Andre had an eye on another woman and carefully noted that he wasn't denying it. Andre said he wanted to spend his nights with Dani, but she pulled her hand away and reminded him she wasn't ready...“and you're not waiting.” Dani sighed that they were friends with benefits whose hearts partially belonged to other people...people who didn't want them. Andre countered that he cared about Dani and kissed her.

Ashley and Derek went to the diner, where she noted how Derek and Andre had bonded the night they'd had Andre over for dinner. Derek conceded that he'd found some common ground with the photographer, but he still saw him as, “Hi, I'm Andre – I travel the world and date supermodels.” Ashley laughed that Derek was “so not that” in a good way. Derek was glad that Andre had played a part in their making up and suggested that they invite Andre to join them the next time they hung out with Naomi and Jacob. Suddenly, Leslie approached their table.

Leslie noted that she hadn't seen Ashley in “forever” and asked about Jan, but Ashley informed Leslie that neither she nor her mother wanted to talk to her. Ashley had learned from Jan what Leslie had done; Leslie insisted that, like Jan, she had only been looking out for her daughter. When Leslie asked about Laura, Ashley piped up, “You think I'd break confidentiality so you can try to kill her for a third time?” Ashley informed Leslie that the hospital had changed their protocols since Leslie's last visit to Laura's room – and besides, Leslie would be caught on camera if she tried to ambush Laura again. Leslie claimed there were those who were trying to entrap her, Kat in particular.

Derek jumped in when Leslie started asking questions about any security footage and where it would be obtained. After Ashley agreed with Derek that Leslie's interest in the footage was suspicious, Derek stood up and demanded that Leslie leave. Leslie snapped at Ashley when she proposed that Leslie turn herself in, causing Derek to ominously declare he had carried people twice Leslie's size out of burning buildings. “You promise?” Leslie laughed as she departed.

Tomás reported to Bill that the women who had settled their lawsuit against the firm and set up a committee to improve working standards for female employees had backed away a bit from insisting they have a say in hiring. Bill liked that Tomás had exerted a gentle influence in not letting the committee be too “radical” in their changes. Tomás was surprised when Bill gave him a new assignment: keeping an eye on his family. Bill just wanted Tomás to monitor his loved ones for any threats that he might need to deal with, mostly concerning Chelsea and Naomi.

Bill bemoaned the fact that his daughters had returned to shunning him for helping Ted cover up his affair with Leslie and hoped that Tomás could feed him intel that would get him “back in their good graces” – especially since Tomás dating Kat was a gateway to that info. Tomás didn't want to spy, but Bill said it would just be a matter of asking Kat some carefully chosen questions, since Kat had no filter. Also, if anything came up about Dani or Leslie, Bill wanted to know. Tomás finally agreed to help.

Kat visited the law firm and told Tomás she needed his legal advice – not Bill's. Bill recognized that Kat shared his daughters' low opinion of him and allowed Tomás to clock out early so he could take Kat to brunch. At the country club, Tomás assured Kat that Leslie had no grounds to sue her and, following Bill's instruction, expressed surprise that Kat hadn't gone to Naomi, also a lawyer. Tomás and Kat discussed her frustration that Jacob was moving too slow in investigating Leslie – and then he added to it by admitting to Kat that he wouldn't prosecute Leslie based on the evidence presented so far.

Tomás used the analogy of them kissing – they had done it, but they couldn't provide hard evidence of it, the same way that there wasn't anything substantial enough against Leslie to make charges stick. Kat didn't want Tomás going to Bill for a second opinion, nor did she want Leslie and Eva to skate so they could hurt someone else Kat cared about.

Hayley went to Bill's office, where Bill was surprised to learn that his wife had brought his ex a pregnancy test. When Hayley offered to show him her proof as well, Bill let Hayley know that he believed she was carrying his child. Then Naomi came in, but turned around the moment she saw Hayley. Bill shared that they were expecting Naomi's next sibling, prompting Naomi to presume that Hayley had “forgotten” to take birth control and accuse her of getting pregnant as insurance.

Naomi didn't agree with Hayley's assertion that a baby could bring the whole family together and asked Bill if she was supposed to “throw [her] step-monster a babymoon girls' trip,” horrified that her new little brother or sister would be a whole generation younger than her. Bill tried to appease his daughter but began slurring his words to the point he couldn't complete a sentence. Hayley and Naomi rushed to Bill, who eventually snapped out of his attack and yelped that he was fine. Bill waved it off when Naomi asked if he had even seen a doctor about his hand, which she had recommended after it had gone numb weeks earlier; this incident was news to a blindsided Hayley, who corroborated that Bill's hand had later gone numb in her presence as well. Bill made a comment about enemies Naomi and Hayley coming together to gang up on him, but then he had another episode, which rendered him unable to speak.

Beyond the Gates airs weekdays on CBS and streams on Paramount Plus.
