On Beyond the Gates, an anxious Anita had second thoughts about having Tracy to dinner at the country club rather than the house; she told Vernon she was worried that her fellow Articulette might think Anita was lording her wealth over her. La Dupree took Tracy's tardiness as a sign that she wasn't coming; Anita was certain that Tracy hated her because of her part in how the group had split. Then Tracy arrived – while she embraced Anita, she appeared dubious.

Tracy gave a summary of her trip; Anita nervously marveled that they had only lived two hours away from each other all those years. Vernon complimented Tracy, who spoke of him first coming backstage to see Anita; a man of his stature could have had any of the three singers in the group. Tracy added that Sharon had been pissed when Vernon had chosen Anita. In fact, Tracy had never seen Sharon so angry “until...” “I know,” Anita acknowledged.

Anita and Tracy reminisced about past tour stops and past boyfriends, prompting Vernon to let the women explore their memories on their own. Tracy froze up when Anita remarked that Tracy had always been the pretty one; Tracy derided the label as one stuck on her by Dante Green (presumably their manager) as a way of stirring up jealousy in the group and maintaining control over them. When Tracy added that she, Anita, and Sharon had had enough strife without Dante's machinations, Anita reminded Tracy that there had also been a time when the three of them had been more than members of an act...they had been sisters.

The singers thought back to their beginnings, when they had tried out their still maturing voices in their high school girls' room that had great acoustics. Tracy conceded she had been apprehensive about meeting with Anita, but was now glad she had come to see her old friend. When Tracy was ready to catch the train back to her home in Philadelphia, Anita coaxed Tracy into staying longer – and offered her lodging at the Dupree mansion in favor of a hotel.

Derek continued packing in preparation to move out of Ashley's apartment. Jan interrupted Derek's thoughts by stopping by with spaghetti; she saw Derek's belongings and assumed that he was either still unpacking or going on a trip with Ashley. Derek was mostly quiet as Jan sensed that living together wasn't turning out to be as easy for him and Ashley as they'd thought, and opined that continued communication would smooth the road. Jan didn't seem to notice Derek's monosyllabic responses and politely excused herself.

At Uptown, Ashley called Shanice and reported in sick, then cried at the bar. Andre entered and wanted to know what was wrong; Ashley accepted Andre's hug and then told him the story about how she had walked out on Derek, deeming herself stupid. Andre encouraged Ashley to cut herself some slack; Ashley complained that Derek could be “such a guy,” which made Andre chuckle. After Andre convinced her that her spat with Derek didn't have to mean the end of their relationship, Ashley determinedly went home, with Andre accompanying her, to let Derek know she loved him.

Kat visited Jacob at the station and wanted to know if he had followed up on Leslie accusing Eva of running Laura off the road. Jacob reported that Leslie had written off her “confession” as just trying to tweak Kat, but he did feel Leslie would have had more motivation to get rid of Laura, since Leslie was the mastermind behind her plan to expose Ted. While Kat was sure Eva also didn't have an alibi, and certain of Eva's guilt, Jacob's money was on Leslie; he asked Kat to stay out of the investigation.

Jacob ended a call, looking into whatever alibis the Thomas women might have had, as Derek came by for a talk. Derek described the fight he'd had with Ashley and how he'd moved out – Jacob thought Derek was joking until Derek asked if he could sleep on the Hawthornes' couch. Jacob was fine with it, but knew that Naomi – Ashley's best friend – wouldn't be. Derek felt that living with Ashley had been a failure; however, Jacob felt that Derek moving out on someone he loved was failing. Buoyed by Jacob's suggestion that he and Ashley continue dating while living together, Derek left to take Jacob's advice.

Ashley and Andre reached the apartment to find Derek not there. Andre assumed that the firefighter was with his buddies from the station until Ashley realized that Derek's stuff was gone. Ashley sobbed that she had been too controlling with Derek about her silly rules; she had blown it. Andre didn't want Ashley being so hard on herself. While Ashley and Andre hugged, Derek stood silently outside the door, hesitating on going in; he soon thought better of it and walked away.

At Orphey Gene's, Eva was gazing at the photo Ted had given her of herself when Tomás stopped by her table. Tomás decided to risk Kat's disapproval of him joining Eva and remarked that he was simply going home, where he would continue to work in lieu of having anything else to do. When Tomás asked into the photo, Eva told him about Ted's birthday gift; Ted said the biggest gift was Eva being able to get to know her father finally. Eva was grateful, but her jaw dropped when Tomás mentioned how he'd heard about Leslie blaming Eva for Laura's accident.

It upset Eva to be accused by her mother and she adamantly told Tomás she was innocent – besides, she didn't even know how to ride a motorcycle. She recalled that Alan, her stepfather, had owned one, but she'd never gone near it. Tomás didn't think Eva had attacked Laura, but was of the opinion that Leslie might have been trying to shift blame off of herself. Eva reflected that she kept letting her mother treat her badly. Tomás confided his personal situation with his father, who seemed to delight in putting Tomás down; he and Eva commiserated about how it was harder to keep their guard up with their parents when those parents could be as warm as they could be icy.

Eva became emotional as she shared how it was the more loving moments with Leslie that kept her hanging on and holding out hope for better relations instead of just rejecting her mom unilaterally. Tomás could relate; they clasped hands, each telling the other they deserved better. Eva caught herself, retracting her hand as she commented that Kat would “freak all the way out” if she saw her touching her boyfriend. Tomás didn't see their hand holding as romantic and also couldn't define himself as Kat's boyfriend...“because of you.”

Tomás laid out for a confused Eva how Kat had stilted their momentum by choosing to follow up with Jacob at the station instead of having dinner with him. Eva blanched to realize that Kat hated her enough to involve the police, and recognized that she had started everything with Kat by infiltrating and upending Kat's family. Tomás implored Eva to remember that, in the end, she had tried to stop her own mother from hurting Kat's. He felt Eva needed an ally and exhorted her not to take responsibility for things a parent had done, as his father had often finagled him into doing. Tomás let Eva know she had a friend in him and even offered to represent her in court if it came to it...for a discount.

Leslie stealthily entered Laura's hospital room but still woke the patient. Ms. Thomas coldly approached Laura with a pillow but then placed it behind Laura's back to prop her up. When Leslie introduced herself, an unreceptive Laura frowned that everybody knew what Leslie had done to the Richardsons. “Everybody doesn't know squat,” Leslie seethed. She asked into Laura's condition and whether Laura had made Eva's acquaintance; Laura knew that Eva had replaced her as Nicole's assistant. Leslie wondered if Laura had any idea who had caused her accident.

Laura remembered being blinded by the motorcycle's light in her rear view mirror and told Leslie she had no idea who had ridden up beside her. Leslie pretended to be afraid of how things looked for Eva and planted the seed that people might think Eva had sidelined Laura to take over in her job. Laura didn't think it unreasonable that Eva had grounds to get Laura out of the way; Leslie then insisted that her Eva could never harm someone so maliciously.

Kat rushed in, astonished to find Leslie with Laura. When Kat ordered Leslie out, Leslie snarked that she didn't know Kat was in charge of the hospital...or that she was a police informant, referring to Kat's recording and Leslie's subsequent interrogation. Laura watched the catty exchange, and after Leslie left, Laura voiced her impression that, while it at first seemed Leslie was trying to implicate Eva in the accident, it had come to feel like Leslie was admitting to causing it herself. While Kat wasn't convinced that Eva was blameless, she had to admit that Jacob had had the same hypothesis about Leslie.

Laura hadn't thought that either of the Thomases was culpable until the “scary” Leslie had come in looming over her, though Laura found the idea of Leslie causing an accident just so her daughter could get a job pretty extreme. “Extreme is Leslie's wheelhouse,” Kat asserted. As Laura pondered how ineffectual it would have been for either Leslie or Eva to take her out of the equation when she would have been right back at work, Kat thought back to Laura's heart attack and Nicole's confusion over why Laura's potassium levels had suddenly been so high preceding it...and considered that someone might have come back to finish Laura off.

Kat didn't think Laura was in any further danger, since Laura couldn't identify who had been on the motorcycle, but Kat opted to inform hospital security so Laura wouldn't receive any more visits from Leslie. She promised that whoever had targeted Laura would be held accountable.

Eva ran into Leslie on her way out of the diner. Leslie sassed that she had missed Eva's birthday luncheon because she'd had to wash her wigs. Eva charged Leslie with using her and discarding her after she'd served Leslie's purpose – and with trying to pin her crimes on her daughter.

Jacob nearly dismissed the returning Kat's update until he heard Kat's account of finding Leslie in Laura's hospital room. When Kat conveyed how she and Laura had formulated the theory that Laura had been poisoned, Jacob told Kat he had called the hospital himself – and there was no evidence that anyone had intentionally gotten extra potassium into Laura's system. Kat still thought it odd that Laura's potassium levels had quickly returned to normal after her coronary and never been an issue again, but Jacob didn't want speculation – he needed conclusive evidence connecting Eva and/or Leslie to the accident...and any poisoning.
