Here's what went down Tuesday, May 27, 2025, on Beyond the Gates when Tomás made inroads with Kat, Martin danced around Smitty's questions about Bill, and The Articulettes found themselves two-thirds of the way toward a comeback.
What happened on Beyond the Gates

On Beyond the Gates, Tomás ran into the Hamiltons at the country club, where Bill wanted whatever info Tomás had gleaned from being a mole on the lawsuit-created board to better the firm's working environment for women. When Tomás hedged, Bill invited him to speak freely in front of Hayley, though she disapproved of the assignment. Bill reiterated it was he whom Tomás reported to; Tomás promised his unofficial minutes on the board's latest meeting in the morning. “Within the hour,” Bill corrected. After Tomás slinked away, Bill thought Hayley objected to his assigning Tomás to the board, but Hayley said she liked how Bill would do anything to protect his law firm.
Taking a table in the banquet room, Hayley spoke of a gala she and Bill were about to attend and expressed frustration that she had to share Bill with so many functions. Bill knew there was more to it, and got Hayley to admit that, as the second wife, she felt shortchanged. Not only had she gotten a partial wedding and honeymoon, but her time out of the house with him could be interrupted at any moment by his ex-wife or daughters. Bill offered Hayley a glass of wine to help her relax, but she blurted out that she couldn't have one. Her face changing, she sing-songed, “We're having a baby...!”
Chelsea and Kat went over a purse design that was close to going into production, with Chelsea making adjustments that impressed Kat. Chelsea wished she had that much of a hold on her private life and revealed to her cousin how she had struck out with Allison. Kat felt she wasn't doing much better with her own love life. Chelsea explained how she had made herself vulnerable to Allison and had even told Dani and “the grams” about her – they had all been cool, because it wasn't the first time someone in the family had come out to them.
When Kat asked if Chelsea had spoken to her father about any of it, Chelsea relayed how she had rebuffed Bill's concern the previous evening when she had been telling Dani how her heart had been broken – but Chelsea was aware she needed to have a conversation with Bill. Kat was proud of Chelsea for taking a chance on love, even if had brought disappointment. Chelsea wanted to know how things were going between Kat and Tomás; Kat described how Tomás had seemingly taken Eva's side when Kat tried to warn him about the Thomas women.
Chelsea reminded Kat that Eva was still Kat's half-sister, prompting Kat to offer her cousin a spot on her “dead to me” list. She was still convinced that Eva had tried to kill Laura, but Chelsea called the claim unsubstantiated. Kat didn't want to hear Chelsea's opinion that Eva had merely gotten caught up in her mother's scheming, or how Kat's father was willing to forge a relationship with his other daughter. When Tomás arrived to talk to Kat, Chelsea left them to it, advising her cousin to be nice.
Kat was torqued that Tomás wouldn't even try to see her perspective about Eva. Tomás understood how he might have come across as insensitive, but he continued to feel thwarted because of the way Kat was focusing on Eva and not them. He wanted them to get to know each other – Kat tried to get info from Tomás's social media feed only to see he'd posted exactly twice. Tomás clarified that she would have to learn about him “IRL” and invited her to present him with questions. When she asked how he spent weekends, she discovered he was into fantasy romance novels and salsa dancing.
It touched Kat to find out that Tomás was also a Big Brother to Ramón, a boy growing up fatherless. Tomás noted how, through that experience, he saw the scars that formed from having an incomplete family and admitted he could see that in Eva, which was why he tended to think better of her. Kat decided she wanted to make more inquiries into Tomás's life and conceded that she'd built a protective wall around herself because of how many people wanted to befriend or date her based on the status of her family. She was careful about who she let in, and she felt Eva had earned her mistrust through her actions.
Kat wanted to be able to share her opinions openly, without judgment. In exchange, Kat agreed to be more inquisitive about Tomás, which pleased him. Tomás allowed that they might never see eye-to-eye about Eva, but he didn't want Kat to like Eva – he wanted her to like him. Kat showed him how she felt with a tender kiss.
Hayley hadn't wanted to tell Bill about being pregnant at the club, nor did she figure he'd really be all that pumped about having a child when he already had two grown ones. Bill assured her the baby would be part of them and that he was indeed psyched about being a father again...which the arriving Chelsea overheard. “I'm gonna lose my lunch,” Chelsea grimaced. Chelsea hoped the news was a joke, but when she found out she was truly going to have a half-sibling, she warned Hayley that Fairmont Crest folk were only going to step up their ostracization of her. Hayley suspected that Chelsea had been hoping her marriage to Bill was only a fling and that Bill would eventually make his way back to Chelsea's mother. Chelsea didn't answer one way or the other.
An exasperated Anita was willing to own that she hadn't been the nicest person at the time of The Articulettes' break-up, but remarked that she couldn't change the past. Tracy snarked that Anita was the “queen of Cabrini Green” and scoffed at the idea that Anita had sacrificed anything, given the way Anita had moved up. Anita retorted that she had faced and was still facing numerous obstacles that Tracy knew nothing about. When Vernon happily arrived with food from Orphey Gene's to celebrate the women coming together, he saw the tension and realized his celebration was premature. He informed Tracy that Anita had missed her and excused himself; afterwards, it dawned on Anita that asking to do the reunion concert was a mistake – and one she regretted.
“One note goes sour, you wanna toss out the whole song,” Tracy scoffed. Though they had barely scratched the surface of events in the past, Tracy was glad she had come to see Anita and, having been moved by Vernon's revelations, Tracy confessed to having missed Anita as well. Tracy didn't appreciate Anita thinking she didn't want to do the show and challenged her former co-singer to get real...“unless you're happy being haunted.”
Tracy said the comeback performance would happen if Anita could talk Sharon into it. Anita recalled how Dante Green (“the devil himself,” Tracy commented) had convinced her she had what it took to go solo. She had allowed herself to block out how much Sharon and Tracy would be hurt by Anita breaking up the group, and was profusely sorry. Tracy acknowledged Anita's remorse; Anita wondered if they were being given a chance to do things right. Anita was happy when Tracy agreed to do the concert, but knew that Sharon, who hated Anita, could still shoot the whole thing down. After Anita relayed how Sharon had hung up on her, Tracy volunteered to call Sharon herself and play peacemaker.
Later, while Tracy was getting ready to leave for her home in Philly, Vernon was surprised that Anita wasn't more excited about Tracy coming on board and agreeing to intervene with Sharon. Anita looked back on how, during her time with The Articulettes, she had known she'd had a gift and was willing to do whatever she had to do to capitalize on it; she told Vernon that he hadn't known the real her when they'd met. She had been ruthless, and, while she had tried to erase that part of herself going forward, there was no erasing the hurt she had caused people. Vernon lovingly held her as she cried.
Jessica visited the Richardson-Smith condo to study with Tyrell, deeming him smart. Stopping Samantha from calling for her brother, Jessica asked if Samantha thought Tyrell liked her. She found Tyrell sweet, quirky, sensitive, and easy to be around. Samantha was thrilled and advised the uncertain Jessica to go for it – because if Jessica waited for Tyrell to make a move, she would “ die old and alone.” Jessica lit up when Tyrell came downstairs, surprised to find her there.
Samantha left the two alone, and Tyrell granted Jessica's request to help her with her homework. However, Tyrell accidentally found a sticky note in Jessica's notebook; she grabbed at it, but written on it was the paradox, “What happens when an immovable object meets an unstoppable force?” Tyrell looked at it from a physics perspective, but soon picked up that Jessica wasn't talking about science. She gave him a quick kiss, which Tyrell returned – and which Samantha saw when she brought in snacks. Amused, she made herself scarce.
Smitty was again kept waiting for his serious chat with Martin when the congressman had to take a phone call. Martin recalled how well they used to communicate, which Smitty said lapsed once they'd adopted their kids. Breaking down, Smitty told Martin that he loved him and that he wished Martin were as happy together as Smitty was. Smitty's mysteriousness began making Martin nervous, so Smitty finally told his husband how Bill had summoned him and made noise about D.C. being a town of favors and connections. Martin was piqued that Smitty had gone anywhere near Bill, who had wreaked havoc on his family; Smitty had to keep Martin from escalating.
Martin sniffed that because Bill wasn't in the family anymore, he was still trying to stay connected to it through Martin's political career. Smitty went on that Bill sounded like he knew something dangerous about Martin, who dismissed Smitty's concern by saying that Smitty had been manipulated by Bill. Martin hailed Smitty valuable to Bill now that Smitty had rejoined the press, which was all the encounter had been about. Smitty copped to feeling jealous because he'd thought someone knew Martin better than he did. Martin had to exit to participate in a legislative procedure, leaving an emotional Smitty behind.
