On Beyond the Gates, Chelsea told Hayley, “How would you know? Being an orphan yourself,” when Hayley said it was natural for a child to want their parents to reunite. Bill chastised his daughter, but backed Hayley up and declared there was no way he was going back to Dani. Hayley counseled Chelsea to accept that fact, but Chelsea retorted that she wasn't into making things easier for her or Bill. After Chelsea stalked off, Hayley attributed her flaming to hormones, but Bill felt his wife was entitled to her comments, since she was carrying his baby. The Hamiltons discussed the trust fund Bill had set up before when Hayley had thought she was expecting – just as Hayley addressed the topic of schools and names, Martin interrupted.

Bill snarked that the congressman couldn't read the room, but Martin snapped that whatever the newlyweds were talking about could wait and that he wasn't going to have his dialogue with Bill in front of Hayley. While Bill wanted Hayley to stay, Hayley excused herself anyway, and Martin brusquely waved off wait staff who wanted to tend to Bill's table – it was the leather jacketed man who had been observing Martin and Leslie at Orphey Gene's previously.

Naomi and Jacob entered the country club foyer, laughing over how she had beat him in basketball. Spotting Hayley, Naomi approached her one-time best friend and learned that Hayley was there with Bill, celebrating. Hayley kept Naomi from walking away, but Naomi didn't want to hear about what the Hamiltons were raising their glasses to. When Hayley reminded Naomi that she missed their friendship, Jacob thought it unrealistic that the women could heal the rift. Hayley pressed that they weren't just friends anymore, they were family – Naomi left before Hayley could elaborate on her statement that there could soon be more connecting them.

Martin thought Bill was out of his mind for telling Smitty they were on “the same team,” and for insinuating to Smitty that Martin would be able to explain why. When Martin freaked out that Smitty was a reporter who would ask questions, Bill scoffed that Martin could lie his way out of it, since lying had to get easier with Martin doing that every day. “Do you have a death wish?” Martin seethed. Bill responded that Martin giving over to his impulses never ended well and that there was no way Martin could go up against him, considering what Bill knew.

The “waiter” watched the appalled Martin erupt about how Bill had dangled the subject of “what happened” in front of Smitty. Surely Bill had been trying to send Smitty a message. Bill declared that he did, in fact, want something from Martin – eventually. He had done Martin a favor, and those weren't free, plus the Duprees were aware of the risk Bill had taken in cleaning up the mess Martin had made “that night.” Whatever questionable deeds Bill had committed to save Martin's skin, they were nothing compared to what Martin had done. Bill hadn't just fixed the situation – he had fixed Martin.

Bill deemed the subject closed, and Hayley returned to join her husband. Yet Martin wouldn't leave, so Bill took the moment to tweak Martin about Hayley bring pregnant. This inspired Martin to applaud loudly and proclaim their child “the prince of moral bankruptcy,” which attracted the attention of everyone in the banquet room...including the man surveilling them. Martin invited all present to hail the Hamiltons and spouted off that, while he might have done something horrible one night that still haunted him, Bill had used it as a business opportunity.

After Bill advised Martin to be mindful of his surroundings, Martin raged that the public scrutiny would finally inform the world what a vulture Bill was. Hayley wanted to know what Martin was talking about, but Martin amped up his tirade by recalling how Bill had ditched his wife for a younger side piece and took every opportunity to push Hayley in Dani's face. Martin announced that Bill manipulated the law for his own benefit; Bill clapped back that Martin had no room to talk when his own flaws were so evident. Bill asked if Hayley was all right. Martin slammed his hand on the table and answered for her: no. And, in Martin's opinion, Hayley should run “far and fast” before her child grew up to be a bastard like her husband. Bill rushed Martin and choked him...

But it had only been a fantasy of Martin's; he simply took in the news of Hayley's pregnancy, congratulated her, and exited. The “waiter” checked his phone and followed Martin out. Hayley confessed that sometimes Bill scared her; the lawyer toasted his wife and the child that was on the way. Bill pivoted when Hayley asked into what Martin's beef was, ascribing the lawmaker's upset to Bill helping Ted cover up his affair with Leslie.

Tyrell enjoyed kissing Jessica, but he pulled back, mentioning that she had come over to study; he didn't want to take advantage of her. “I literally kissed you,” she grinned. “Did you black out during that part?” Tyrell continued to hedge, finally submitting that she might just be feeling sorry for him because of everything that had happened with his underwear pic. Jessica was upset to hear his theory that there had to be another reason she had first approached him, as her liking him didn't make sense to him.

Samantha, holding a laundry basket with a bottle of Tide in it, eavesdropped as Tyrell recalled how Jessica was always hanging out with the popular kids – something he definitely wasn't. Jessica became angry when Tyrell opined that she was simply setting him up for another embarrassing picture that would have the school ridiculing him again; she chided herself for catching feelings for “toxic, insecure trash” and nearly ran down the arriving Smitty as she left.

Smitty was confused when Tyrell would only say Jessica needed to leave, and the returning Samantha cooed that Jessica would easily come back if Tyrell asked her. Tyrell put his foot down, not wanting to discuss Jessica any further. Later, Smitty welcomed Martin home from supposedly having to attend a floor vote on a piece of legislature; Smitty revealed he knew there had been no such vote, and reasoned that Martin had instead gone toe-to-toe with Bill for accosting Smitty.

Martin tried to hush Smitty, citing the possibility of their kids overhearing them – but he did admit that he'd visited Bill. When Martin was irritated that Smitty had figured him out, Smitty said it wasn't like he was having Martin tailed, he just knew his husband. Smitty said he also knew Martin well enough to sense that his concern about Bill wanting to utilize Smitty was a smokescreen; it had been Smitty's curiosity about what Bill had told him that had made Martin angry enough to face Bill. Martin fumed that he had wanted to wrap his fingers around Bill's neck until...“but I didn't. I got control.” Smitty was rattled; Martin changed the subject to Hayley having Bill's baby.

Derek seated Ashley at Orphey Gene's and noted that he'd thought the date he'd promised her would be in a more romantic spot that would remind her why she fell in love with him. Ashley smiled that she didn't need the reminder. She felt that the diner had meaning because it was where they had gotten their relationship back on track...and she intimated that it didn't have to be their last stop. Derek realized that Ashley was talking about her apartment, and he joked that, after his sleepover, he'd have to be out by the break of day. Ashley jovially replied that she'd have to straighten up once he was gone; Derek bristled and recalled that his girlfriend liked everything neat and tidy.

When Derek handed back his key, Ashley offered for him to keep it, since they were still serious enough to be each other's emergency contacts. Derek described the frat house where he was bunking and was looking forward to staying at Ashley's “neat and tidy” apartment; when Ashley noticed the repetition, Derek assured her that he was making fun of himself, not her. He felt bad for not measuring up to Ashley's standards, so she admitted that she got to be overcontrolling about her home.

Derek took into account that they had done well living separately in the past, and would again. Ashley pondered whether they should want more, including the happily ever after. “Happiness has different blueprints for different people,” Derek remarked insightfully. “There's no one right way to build it.” He concurred that he also wanted a home, marriage, and kids – they would just have to write their fairy tale their own way. Ashley reckoned that if they agreed on everything, they would be “the most boring couple ever.”

“Wait, you mean we're not?” Derek winked. Ashley beamed, saying that no man had ever made her as happy...while at the same time making her want to Google “where to hide the body.” As the couple laughed, the Hawthornes entered the diner, and Derek thanked Jacob for reminding him he needed to take Ashley out on dates again. Ashley and Derek presented a unified front and told their friends that they had come to the conclusion that they loved each other too much to live together.

Chelsea ran to Dani, who wanted to gush about the big social media influencer who wanted to work with her. As Chelsea tried to speak, Dani went on about how it had been recommended she capitalize on the viral video of herself firing bullets at Bill's wedding – why shouldn't she profit from his humiliation? Chelsea finally got a word in and advised her mom to sit down: she wasn't pregnant, as Dani concluded from Chelsea's seriousness...Hayley was. Dani's eyes widened.

Dani had the wind knocked out of her, but otherwise held together; she was sure Chelsea had been expecting her to have a meltdown or “dive into vodka like it was Sunday brunch.” Chelsea wasn't proud of her own reaction, but Dani observed that Hayley was young and “presumably fertile,” while Bill was an aging lawyer who was too old to change diapers. Chelsea worried when Dani went on a rant about how many older men at the club had trophy wives who probably had their babies fathered by someone else. Dani began to wonder, following that track, if Hayley actually was pregnant by Bill.

Chelsea had no luck trying to de-escalate Dani, who was sure Hayley had already arranged for some big public announcement about having Bill's child. Changing tracks, Dani feverishly speculated that Hayley had lied about being pregnant so she could secure her marriage to “Mr. Moneybags.” The former Mrs. Hamilton whipped out some tequila, and Chelsea begged her to “rewind back to when you were making some sense.” Chelsea didn't think Hayley could fake a pregnancy for nine months and suggested that Dani was just looking for the most toxic explanation possible.

Dani was sure that Hayley would merely lie about having a miscarriage because “sympathy is currency in Fairmont Crest”...which Hayley would use to get the community to warm to her. Chelsea posited that Dani was coming up with conspiracy theories because she couldn't handle Hayley having a baby with her ex.

Returning home, Bill was amorous and went upstairs to change. Alone in the living room, Hayley was shocked to see Dani, who had used Bill's code to get in the house. Dani greeted the “mother-to-be,” but when Hayley thought it odd that Dani would come over so late to congratulate her, Dani stoically replied, “I came to do way more than that.”
