Here's what went down Monday, August 4, 2025 on Beyond the Gates when Eva served as Leslie's bouncer, Smitty held the line against Martin, and Samantha and Tyrell discussed the woman who had abandoned them.
What happened on Beyond the Gates

On Beyond the Gates, Anita explained to the Articulettes fans in the audience that the act had started with four members, not three – Sharon and Tracy watched as Anita told everyone in attendance about Barbara and how she had founded the group; Andre took his cue and ran a video that highlighted the foursome as youngsters and paid tribute to Barbara as an adult. Tracy and Sharon were moved by the celebration. When Andre retook his seat, Dani thanked him; “Anything for your mother,” Andre replied. “And for you, Dani.”
Anita publicly confessed that she had failed Barbara, and, in doing so, Barbara's life had ended in tragedy. She got the audience to chant Barbara's name; they obliged and rose to their feet. Then the trio launched into their next song, during which Andre wished he could kiss Dani. “So kiss me already!” the light-hearted Dani instructed. Naomi saw the buss and was scandalized, having not known Dani and Andre were an item – but Chelsea approved, given they were both single, and anything was better than Dani being hung up on Bill. Eva got a kick out of Leslie singing along with the group. When the song ended and the cheering roared, Sharon let Anita know that she had forgiven her for everything.
After the show was over, Naomi told Chelsea she needed time to process having seen her mother with a younger man, one whom they were practically related to. Nicole side-eyed Leslie as she made her way out of her row with Eva. Smitty assured Samantha that the Duprees would always be their family, no matter what happened between him and Martin. Tyrell was still chilly with Martin, who invited an undecided Smitty to the show's afterparty.
Backstage, Naomi found Anita, who credited her with “pushing” her to get back on stage via the karaoke night that had started it all. Naomi declared that no one could push Anita Dupree into anything. Anita understood that Naomi couldn't make the afterparty because she had work to get caught up on. Sharon breezed in, smiling that her hand hurt from signing so many autographs. Anita realized that she hadn't included her or Tracy in the decision to pay homage to Barbara, but Sharon loved it, and Tracy hoped that Barbara was looking down on them from above. When Vernon got Anita alone, he swore that she had never looked so radiant. Anita marveled that having her sisters back was a dream come true.
Joining the afterparty at the country club, Nicole was still steamed that Leslie had shown up to the concert. Dani relayed that at least Nicole's other woman wasn't flaunting a baby bump, like Hayley – though when Nicole added that Leslie had had her grown-up baby by her side, Dani admitted she couldn't touch that. Meanwhile, Leslie was trying to get past the doorman, stopping short of threatening her way in when he didn't see her on the invite list. Eva pulled the indignant Leslie away, and Kat marched up sassing that the club didn't have a mother-daughter homewrecker night.
Eva let Kat know that she had a pass, just like Ted's other daughter had. Kat delivered more insults and gave Ted's “ho” and the “proof of his infidelity” two seconds to get off the property, but Leslie barked that Kat's manicured claws were no match for hers. Chelsea arrived for back-up as Kat heralded the night as representative of “everything it [meant] to be a Dupree”; she thought it tacky that Leslie and Eva wanted to remind everybody of what had almost ruined their family by their very presence.
When Leslie wouldn't budge, Eva promised they wouldn't be “the Gilmore girls” anymore if she didn't exit with her right that moment. Leslie gave in, but when she crowed to Kat and Chelsea that she could jump over the gates, limbo under them, or “shove them up your – ”, Eva hauled her mother out of the lobby.
Nicole and Dani discussed how Anita had given up her music career to raise them; they were glad that their mom had started singing again. The Dupree sisters saw Kat's upset and learned that Leslie had tried to gatecrash; Nicole was ready to go after Leslie, but Dani tried to talk her out of it. Nicole couldn't be dissuaded and left, which surprised Kat. Chelsea and Kat listened as Dani supposed that Nicole was more like her than she had realized before.
The subject turned to Andre; Kat opposed when Chelsea blithely hoped she'd still be shagging guys half her age when she got to be Dani's. Dani's profound wish was that neither Chelsea nor Kat would ever suffer the pain of divorce the way she had...but if they did, that they would find happiness afterwards in whatever form it came in. When Chelsea snarked about the possibility of having to call Andre “stepdaddy,” Dani went in search of her own daddy. Andre approached; Chelsea was glad he was taking Dani's mind off of Bill, but added, “I hope that you're using protection because I've heard about your rep.”
Andre insisted that he respected Dani – Chelsea was cool with the relationship, but warned Andre not to hurt her mom...if he did, he'd have the entire Dupree family to contend with. Chelsea then found Madison, who was both excited and terrified about meeting Anita. Madison finally allowed her girlfriend to take her to the singer, but she immediately put her starstruck foot in her mouth. Anita graciously let Madison know that Chelsea had done her own fangirling over the doctor; Madison nervously prattled and excused herself to retrieve champagne for the three of them. Chelsea beamed when Anita discerned the same look between the women that she and Vernon had always shared.
Dani decided that, while keeping their relationship private had been hot, getting to kiss Andre in public had been hot as well. She had thought there'd be a holy row when the family learned about them, but nothing had changed except for Nicole's initial objection. At Dani's invitation, Andre was ready to take her home and stay for breakfast.
Vanessa concurred with Vernon that Tracy and Sharon sounded just as good as they did in the Articulettes' heyday and asked if there was an album or a full-on tour in the future. Sharon liked the idea. Chelsea was glad that her generation got to see the group live for the first time and remarked that Samantha and Tyrell had gone home with Smitty. Anita presumed that was why Martin looked down, then heaped praise on Andre for bringing Barbara back to life through his expectation-exceeding video work.
Sharon and Tracy signed autographs for Shanice, who raved that she played their music for motivation while having patients do physical therapy exercises; Shanice even amazed Tracy by busting out a refrain. Talent agent Jim Price was stoked over how well-received the reunion show had been; Anita was heartened to learn that the news articles all included mention of Barbara. When Jim suggested that he arrange a solo tour for Anita, she demurred – but felt that Jim should take Tracy and Sharon on the road before another promoter made the same offer to them.
Vernon wanted to know how Martin was holding up; Martin had enjoyed seeing the kids but noted that Smitty had only come for their benefit. Just as Martin was dashing Vernon's hopes about Smitty coming to the party, Smitty walked in and locked eyes with his estranged husband. Anita thanked Smitty, who hailed Anita as a goddess, for his willingness to join them, and reciprocated by deeming Smitty a saint. Mrs. Dupree was aware that she and Mr. Dupree owed Smitty an apology. The reporter knew that they had instituted the cover-up out of love for Martin, a fact he was going to hold on to as he tried to navigate his way toward forgiving his husband.
Martin reluctantly reached Smitty and said he had been missed. After seeing his grandmother make peace on stage, Martin desired to follow suit with Smitty, but Smitty knew that Martin couldn't publicly announce his truth the way Anita had – and even if he could, it wouldn't just erase two years of lies. Much as Smitty wanted to get caught up in the goodwill of the evening, he had come to the party to support the family and couldn't simply forget Martin's actions. Martin accepted a hug from Smitty, who decided to make his way home.
At Orphey Gene's, Leslie expected Eva to read her the riot act, but her daughter instead acknowledged Leslie's choice to leave the Articulettes function peacefully. Leslie regarded the stage tribute to Barbara as Anita trying to make another woman's adversity about her. “You're judging someone, making things all about them?” Eva snickered. Leslie wondered if Eva regretted their going to the show, but Eva had been awed by how upbeat and jovial her mom had been, as if she were channelling a time before Ted.
Leslie remembered, but hated that Nicole had ended up connected to the soundtrack of her childhood. Eva exhorted Leslie to give her space to explore things with Ted, now that she had a father. Just as Eva added that Leslie staying away from Nicole would allow her to do that, Nicole burst into the diner and declared that she should have Leslie arrested for coming to the concert, which had Leslie scoffing. Leslie said that the show was a public event – and besides, the Articulettes, who had been “over” for years, needed all the support they could get. Eva closed her eyes in exasperation.
Eva tried to convince Nicole that her mom really had been a lifelong fan of the group; Nicole still didn't think the Thomas women should have shown up to the gig. Mrs. Richardson made the offer of procuring signed vinyl for Leslie but promised she'd “stick it where the sun don't shine” if Leslie didn't back off. Nicole stormed out, and Leslie eyerolled to Eva, “That shrink needs to be shrunk, honey.”
Ted watched an Entertainment Tonight report about the Articulettes show from his office while Carlton found the returning Nicole at the party and commended her for handling the turmoil in her life as well as she had. Before Carlton could say anything else, Shanice cut in and told Nicole how miserable Martin had been since Smitty left. Nicole went to her son, who didn't want it to take years to patch things up with Smitty like it did for The Articulettes to come together.
Tracy and Sharon announced to Vernon that the two of them had been given a chance to tour; Sharon longed for Anita to join them and admired Anita for giving Barbara her due. Vernon now understood why Anita had always seemed sad when the topic of The Articulettes had come up and hoped that his wife could start the healing process. Sharon wanted to communicate her gratitude to Anita, but La Dupree had snuck out of the party and returned to the concert hall, where she roamed the stage – suddenly the image of Barbara lit up the screen, and Anita thanked Barbara for pulling her and the others into her dream, which had started everything. After Anita was hopeful that forgiveness might be forthcoming, a spotlight beamed down and bathed Anita in warm illumination.
Tyrell asked Samantha how she was still able to trust Martin after all his secrecy. Samantha only knew how Martin's leaving had made her recall what life had been like before they had been adopted. She remembered “her”; Tyrell didn't let himself think about the person. Samantha bore no warm feelings about being dumped into the foster care system, but she never stopped being grateful that Smitty and Martin had rescued them from it. Because of that, Samantha wasn't going to withhold exoneration just because Martin had handled himself poorly. Tyrell didn't want to lose the family they'd become a part of, either, and vowed that he and Samantha always would be that, no matter what happened around them.
