Here's what went down Monday, July 14, 2025 on Beyond the Gates when Ashley dropped a hint about Hayley faking her pregnancy, Jacob gave Dupree-flavored marriage advice, and Allison wanted to get close to Chelsea...Glenn Close, that is.
What happened on Beyond the Gates

On Beyond the Gates, Chelsea threatened legal action if Allison was indeed following her. In front of Madison, Allison reminded Chelsea about their steamy, intimate evenings...which Chelsea promised Madison had never taken place. Allison denied stalking Chelsea and said she'd come to Uptown for the food; she added that she was worried about Chelsea since she had been making so many bad decisions lately – plus, she was ready to show Chelsea what she was missing. After Allison went back to her booth, Madison tried to focus on the menu but was clearly rattled.
Madison listened as Chelsea explained that her brief involvement with Allison hadn't been very deep. It confused Chelsea that Allison had shut her down, but now wanted more. “Is this what happens when love turns into its opposite?” Chelsea queried. Madison stated that the opposite of love was indifference...and that Allison's behavior had been twisted. Chelsea vowed she had no more feelings for Allison and wanted her to disappear, which relieved Madison.
Chelsea hoped Madison still wanted to be with her. Madison confirmed that with a kiss, which Allison monitored from the bar; Allison then dropped a hair clip of Chelsea's on the table between them and purred that Chelsea had left it behind the last time they had had hot sex. As Allison got increasingly creepy, Chelsea mentioned that she had the police on speed dial. Once Allison was gone, Madison expressed her growing disquiet with Chelsea's ex.
Hayley told Bill that their baby was fine, reassuring him that the cramping she had experienced while arguing with Dani was nothing more than routine stress. Just as the Hamiltons started getting romantic, Vernon stalked in, growling, “Who the hell do you think you are summoning me?” Hayley was perplexed as to Vernon's presence; Vernon politely told his daughter's rival that Bill had called him for a private meeting. After Hayley excused herself, Bill told the former senator that Joey's man hadn't been able to neutralize “Kenneth.”
Vernon's concern grew after Bill told him how “Kenneth” had made contact with Tyrell. “I'm surprised that mouth-breathing caveman knows the rules,” Mr. Dupree scoffed upon learning that “Kenneth” had lured Tyrell with an interest in chess and realizing that their payoff hadn't been enough to get rid of the man. But Vernon was appalled when Bill revealed that, with Vernon out of the loop, he, Joey, and the others had decided to eliminate “Kenneth” instead of simply presenting him with money. Bill reiterated that Vernon had originally wanted him to get rid of “Kenneth” by any means necessary, but Vernon hadn't expected his methods to extend to murder.
Bill railed that he'd always been there to get the Duprees out of their messes, and that he knew who he was – and what Vernon had made him. The lawyer had had to absorb the family's sins so that they could maintain their veneer of respectability, even now with him not being a part of that family anymore. Vernon stood firm that he drew the line at murder, but Bill remembered how Vernon had pledged Bill's downfall if he hadn't handled Martin's situation to his satisfaction. Hesitantly, Bill said he didn't see another way out of things and that he was hard pressed to disagree with Joey's logic.
Vernon called it a universal intervention that Randy's screw-up had kept them from being complicit in an act that would have haunted them forever. Bill didn't think Vernon had any better ideas, but the patriarch felt that they just hadn't offered “Kenneth” enough cash and ordered that Joey “pull his squad.”
Martin watched as Samantha helped “Kenneth” install an app on his phone. The congressman rushed over and punched “Kenneth” in the face, horrifying Samantha. “Kenneth” corroborated Samantha's insistence that he hadn't done anything; he crowed that he hadn't even touched her “beautiful brown skin.” When Martin seethed that another word to Samantha would be his last, “Kenneth” mockingly bowed and referred to Martin as “your highness.” “Kenneth” warned Martin that he had attacked him in broad daylight in front of a witness; after he left, Samantha picked up that Martin knew “Kenneth,” but Martin demanded she come home with him that moment.
At the condo, Samantha didn't understand Martin's contention that he'd been trying to save her life. Martin explained that “Kenneth” had been trying to get to him through Samantha, who told her pop that he needed to tell her and Tyrell what was really going on, especially if “Kenneth” was as dangerous as Martin said he was. Smitty came home and agreed with Samantha that whatever Martin was dealing with was too much for him to handle alone. Martin didn't want to get into it in front of Samantha, but the adoptee reminded Martin that he had promised she and Tyrell would never be alone...and she stated that she had never felt more alone than when Martin had “hit that man.”
Smitty was astonished that Martin would have assaulted someone. Martin said he'd explain everything when he got back and asked Smitty to watch the kids. “In addition to the cops who are watching the house?” Smitty asked angrily. Smitty said he would have expected to get the runaround from the police, but not from his own husband. Desperate to get out the door, Martin again deferred his explanation until later – prompting Smitty to tell Martin that if he left, he shouldn't come back. Martin departed anyway, even if he couldn't get an assurance that Smitty would still be there when he returned.
Back at the park, Martin called Marcel and flamed him for letting “Kenneth” slip by, dismissing Marcel's assertion that the department was understaffed. Martin wanted coverage of his family starting immediately.
Samantha told Smitty he had nothing to apologize for in being enraged at Martin, and he had better realize the threat posed by random strangers. She said she had begun to learn that before the Richardson-Smiths had adopted her, because Tyrell had learned it as well, Samantha was surprised that Tyrell had let “Kenneth” into the house. The teen acknowledged that both her parents and the school had taught her about safety, but she still hadn't seen the danger in helping the man with his phone. Smitty calmed his daughter by saying that Martin wasn't mad with her, but he was stunned to hear that “Kenneth” had gotten to both her and Tyrell...and that he and Martin seemed to have an established, hostile relationship.
Smitty didn't have all the answers, but Samantha bitingly said that her dad wouldn't tell her if he did. She was tired of things that affected her life being kept from her, and was scared of Smitty threatening to leave Martin. “Please don't send me to my room while you do whatever's next,” Samantha pleaded.
Ashley ran into Jacob at Orphey Gene's and figured that the reason she hadn't heard from him was because he had chosen Derek's side in the breakup. Jacob was still hopeful that Ashley and Derek would reunite, but Ashley reported that she had seen Derek out with Shanice. Ashley was upset that Derek had dated someone she worked with, but she also had to concede that she'd been on a date with Andre. The nurse determined it was time to move on while pondering if what she'd thought she had with Derek was even real.
Seeing Hayley enter the diner, Ashley wanted to tap into Jacob's detective skills because the words and actions of someone she knew had been contradictory. Jacob said that people usually lied to keep themselves out of trouble – continuing that one often needed to tell more lies to avoid getting caught in the first one. Jacob got a call from Smitty asking him to come to the condo, and Ashley overheard Hayley ordering a variety of spicy, augmented foods to satisfy her pregnancy cravings. Hayley laughed it off when Ashley pointed out that cravings were a feature of the second trimester, while Hayley was only in her first.
Hayley appreciated that Ashley was being kind and friendly to her despite the town hating her for marrying Dani Dupree's ex. Ashley replied that she, Jacob, Naomi, Derek, and even Dani had been her friends before she stole Bill from Dani, but Hayley insisted that she hadn't had any control over falling in love with him. When Hayley hoped that the friendships could be restored, Ashley admitted feeling like Hayley had left them all in the cold in favor of Bill and was of the opinion that Bill had been off-limits. When the subject came around to Hayley's pregnancy, Ashley accused Hayley of planning it, causing Hayley to make a snide remark about how slowly Ashley and Derek were moving. She realized she'd put her foot in it when Ashley told her about her breakup.
Martin stormed into Bill's, telling the attorney how “Kenneth” had gotten to Samantha. After hearing that Martin had also hit “Kenneth,” Bill wanted Martin to relax and let him take care of things, but Martin didn't have much faith in Bill's ability. He felt that Bill, who had been sidelined by marrying Hayley, and Vernon, who had been preoccupied with Anita, had let him down – so, Martin made a decision that he was taking charge of the situation going forward.
Bill wanted to know if Martin had any kind of plan; Martin would only say he wished “Kenneth” were dead. Martin responded in the negative when Bill asked if Martin had shared anything about the problem with Smitty. Bill felt that Martin had come to him to stop Martin from doing whatever he had in mind, but Martin was ready to deal with “Kenneth” directly, himself.
Samantha very grudgingly consented to Smitty's request that she go to her room when Jacob arrived. Smitty then told Jacob how a man was stalking his kids, but the in-the-know Martin wouldn't tell him why. Jacob sensed that Martin had had his reasons and told Smitty he also knew what it was like to be married to a Dupree; the members of that family all had their own way of handling things. Smitty realized he shouldn't make decisions about his marriage while tempers were flaring...but he also needed to find out why “Kenneth” was after his family, and if it had anything to do with whatever had happened between Martin and Marcel.
Jacob offered to talk to Samantha and Tyrell as “a concerned cousin” to cull together a description of “Kenneth” that his department could use. Smitty wanted to first find out why Martin had punched the man in front of their daughter, which was not like him at all.
At the diner, Martin finished up a call, saying that tomorrow was too late – his plan needed to be enacted that day.
After leaving a message for Anita, telling her he was lost without her, Vernon allowed Bill into the Dupree mansion and fretted upon learning that Martin had come up with his own secret strategy to get “Kenneth” out of their lives. Vernon predicted that, in Martin's state, anything he could have conceived would either be “dangerous or destructive.” Bill and Vernon were on the same page about stopping Martin before he committed a violent act.
