Here's what went down Monday, October 13, 2025 on Beyond the Gates when Derek got a leg up on the competition, Naomi got anti-mom advice from a mom, and Donnell let Joey know what the deal was.
What happened on Beyond the Gates

On Beyond the Gates, Dani exhorted Andre to step back and think about the future he really wanted – if it was more than she could give, she would let him out of their marriage. Andre firmly stated that he loved being married to Dani, but she pointed out that he might want children one day...and her time for babies was over. Dani urged Andre to contemplate his choices...and no matter what he decided, “We'll always have Vegas,” she smiled.
Naomi entered unannounced, startling the Richardsons; Naomi wasn't sure under the new protocol whether she needed to schedule mother-daughter time. Andre politely excused himself, and Dani cooed for Naomi to “tell Mommy everything.” Naomi wanted to know what she'd interrupted; Dani was forthcoming and explained that she had invited Andre to divorce her if their marriage didn't truly align with his life goals. Naomi noted that she and Jacob were themselves at cross purposes on the subject of children.
“Are you with child, child?” Dani asked, realizing that Naomi seemed to have a glow. Naomi ascribed her “glow” to makeup and would only say that Jacob had been wanting to revisit their decision about not having kids. Dani was shocked to hear Naomi say that she had ruined Dani's life by being born. Listening to Naomi reminisce about the day she and Chelsea had found Dani's modeling mementos, which had made the girls realize that Dani had given up her career to raise them, Dani clarified that she had ceased being a supermodel to help Bill build his business. Plus, Dani had wanted Naomi from the moment she had been conceived.
Naomi couldn't imagine herself as a parent, but Dani encouraged her to be a little more open to the possibility. When Naomi tried to picture it, she burst into tears. “Not every woman was made to be a mother,” Naomi said adamantly. Dani concurred and offered that babies were only for people who really wanted to have them. Naomi liked her life the way it was and wanted to focus her energies on her work and Jacob.
“I should be able to lead the life that I want without people thinking that I'm some monster,” Naomi blurted out. “Especially you, mom.” Dani swore she could never be disappointed in Naomi and shared her admiration that Naomi always listened to her inner voice. Naomi worried about Jacob, but Dani called it “end of story,” since Jacob had known from the beginning that Naomi didn't want to be a mother. Andre's call broke up the discussion; Dani said it was decision day in her relationship as well.
Derek rolled in behind Ashley at the hospital, noting that his favorite part of physical therapy was being able to accompany her to work. Ashley laughingly defined them as one of those “insufferable” couples who did everything together. Shanice came upon the duo as Ashley brought up wedding dates; Ashley asked her supervisor to be a bridesmaid. Ms. Johnson immediately accepted, though the betrothed mentioned that their wedding was still months away. “Who else knows exactly what you two have been through?” Shanice qualified, side-eyeing Derek.
Alix, the woman whose baby Ashley and Andre had delivered in the hospital elevator, brought her infant in to show Ashley. Ms. Morgan was overjoyed that little “Ashley Andrea” was doing so well; Andre joined them, prompting Alix to exclaim, “We're all together again! This must be fate!” Andre and Ashley eyed each other knowingly.
Shanice was eager to learn how Ashley had reacted when Derek had told her he was regaining sensation in his legs. Derek reported that he had been about to make that reveal when he saw Ashley telling Andre she was glad he was married because it made things easier on her. Derek and Shanice disagreed about what that seemed to indicate; Derek's impression was that it meant Ashley wasn't over Andre. As he worked out and fretted about Andre's constant presence at Garland, Shanice noticed that Derek's leg had moved.
When Derek was able to lift his leg slightly on his own, Shanice rushed to call neurologist Madison. Derek was excited to be able to bring to fruition his plan to surprise Ashley by standing up at their wedding, but Shanice advised him that women didn't like even good shocks on their special day. There was nothing stopping Derek from telling Ashley about his revelation right then and there.
Andre took a picture of Alix and her baby, and Alix was amazed to hear that Ashley had delivered the infant during her first week as a nurse. Derek wheeled out to the nurses station as Alix invited Ashley and Andre to the child's first Halloween party, where she would be dressed as a “nurse-tographer” in honor of the two who had brought her into the world.
Derek met the group and declared to Alix that he and Ashley had gotten engaged. Alix extended her party invitation to Derek as well, though she noted her home wasn't wheelchair accessible. Derek assured her he would make it work and presumed that Andre would be bringing Dani to the event. Andre stammered that he hadn't been married long, and Alix proclaimed her child a miracle worker, since, following her birth, Andre had taken a bride and Ashley was getting a husband.
Andre saw Ted and made a beeline for his uncle, saying that Derek and Ashley were the picture of the perfect couple on the surface – but Andre saw Ashley as a force of nature who had helped deliver a baby...and that baby was proof of their connection.
At Orphey Gene's, June brought the impatient Leslie a refill on her coffee, attributing her slowness to still being a new hire. Leslie told June that a “four top” needed bussing and said that she'd been a waitress, but now she was the daughter of music royalty waiting for her Fairmont Crest house to be completed. June saw Leslie as an impatient, demanding type and thought she might feel more comfortable at an establishment that catered to “high maintenance” customers.
Leslie watched as Ted entered and as June rushed over to wait on her “favorite customer.” Ted told June that coming in was the highlight of his day and that he appreciated what a kind listener she was. When Ted remarked that he had been in a bad way when they'd met, and that he hadn't meant to dump on her, June was just grateful she had been at all helpful.
Chelsea came in with Samantha; as they took stools at the counter, Chelsea revealed that the purse line was a hit, not the least of which was because of Samantha modeling the product. Samantha enjoyed being part of such a big family – though, she divulged, looking at June from across the room, finding her biological mother had been “the best.”
June, getting confirmation that Ted's wife was divorcing him, leaned into the theory about such splits being a new lease on life. Looking back at Samantha, Ted was certain he'd just be happy if his granddaughter still smiled at him and excused himself to go talk to her. June barely had time to register that shock when Leslie approached, demanding that June step off of her man. Leslie wouldn't answer June's question about whether or not she was “the wife”; Leslie only told June that bad things happened to people who stood between her and what she wanted.
“The things I've seen and survived,” June answered confidently, “would knock the curls outta your head.” When June went on that Leslie didn't scare her, Leslie promised she could be scarier than anything June had survived. June just smiled as Leslie stalked off.
Samantha was touched that Ted had been watching her ChelseaKat videos but morosely mentioned that Martin had moved out again. Chelsea noted that Samantha was getting to know her mother, which stunned Ted; when Samantha coyly said that Ted had been, too, Ted became confused, stating that he didn't know her mom. Ted barely knew what to say when it was revealed to him that Samantha and Tyrell were June's children. As Ted made his way out of the diner, he was stopped by Leslie, who wanted Ted to stay away from “street urchin” June.
After Samantha introduced her to Chelsea, June admitted that she'd had debates about whether or not Chelsea was real or AI. Chelsea laughed that she was indeed real and told mother and daughter she loved the story of how they'd found each other. June probed into Ted being Samantha's grandfather; Samantha substantiated it, and Chelsea shrugged that Ted was her “sister's mother's ex.” June found it hard to believe that a surgeon would be talking to a nobody like her.
Donnell stopped by the casino to thank Joey for being so supportive of Vanessa – but also to say that Joey's services would no longer be required, because Donnell planned to look after things now that he was home to stay. Joey was of the opinion that he and Donnell were a lot alike – though, instead of being raised within “any gates,” Joey added, his early life had been more like a cage that he'd had to bust himself and his mother out of. Nor had his father been a “shining example” like Doug.
Joey envied the education Donnell had access to and wanted to discuss Donnell's desire to step up. Donnell swore he would get a job to pay for things if Vanessa had to take a hiatus from her career, but Joey said that was easier to say than it was to do in practice. Joey maintained that Donnell's employment opportunities would be limited unless he got his degree and learned a trade. Donnell determined he would figure things out; Joey replied that he may have the answer to Donnell's prayers. He was offering Donnell a job – as a dealer.
Donnell said he could barely shuffle Uno cards, but Joey was sure he would catch on. The young McBride didn't think it would be right for him to work where his father had spent his last hours. Joey regretted any insensitivity; Donnell asked if it ever bothered Joey that he was running an establishment that made it possible for so many people to ruin their lives. “This place cost my family everything,” the grieving son went on, not blaming Joey. Armstrong saw that Donnell wanted him to back off of Vanessa. Donnell affirmed that he had things handled going forward.
Seating themselves in the country club's banquet room, Vanessa admitted to Nicole that she was experiencing guilt on top of her grief because it had been a long time since she and Doug had enjoyed being married to each other. After some gentle coaxing from Nicole, who promised to listen as a friend and not as a psychiatrist, Vanessa described how Donnell was avoiding going back to college because he wanted to take Doug's place as the man of the house. The realtor didn't really need for her son to hold her hand. Nicole wondered if Vanessa was worried Donnell would see Joey holding her hand instead.
Nicole asked if Joey was a friend the way Vanessa had had other “friends” over the years. Plus, Nicole deemed Joey dangerous. Vanessa insisted that Nicole didn't know him and relayed how caring Joey had been since Doug's passing. Nicole felt Joey was targeting Vanessa and that being around him wasn't helping Vanessa to deal with her feelings around not having gotten closure with Doug. Vanessa listened as Nicole warned her away from Joey – even if Nicole understood Vanessa's need to reach out to somebody during the difficult time.
“Donnell already knows,” Vanessa said of her friendship with Joey. Nicole was sure Donnell didn't know the rest of it and couldn't believe that Vanessa was willing to expose her child to “that man.” Vanessa took umbrage and spat that she and Joey were a “package deal” whether “Dr. Nicole” liked it or not; she barged out the second she got a text from Joey.
Vanessa was flirtatious as she descended upon Joey, but he was in a more pensive mood. He had been thinking about their relationship; when Vanessa said she may have ruined a long-standing friendship defending him, Joey announced that he and Vanessa had to end.
Nicole ran into Leslie at the country club; she didn't react when Leslie bragged that she'd one day have a home on every continent, and that the one in North America was being built across from Nicole's parents. Leslie said she was living with Ted until her mansion was ready. Nicole knew that Leslie was full of it, because Ted despised Leslie: “you spread your lies as easily as you spread your – ” Leslie interrupted and crowed that she and Ted were indeed living under the same roof, but Nicole said their both having rooms at the Bowman Hotel didn't count.
It made Nicole laugh when Leslie purred that she and Ted would be sleeping together again soon. Leslie moved the topic to their daughters, who were competing over the same toy – Tomás. When Leslie complained that Kat was trying to steal Eva's man, Nicole held that Tomás was Kat's boyfriend. Nicole sensed a threat when Leslie said she would take action if Kat kept “sharpening her claws on my Eva.” Nicole retorted that she would be ready if Leslie tried to come for her daughter.
