On Beyond the Gates, Dani and Pamela made a toast to surviving pilates with a nutrition shake; they discussed how there were only a few weeks left until Dani made her return as a model, and how Dani wanted to be in shape for it. The women heard a scream from upstairs and rushed into Dani's room to find Chelsea crying that Dani had been robbed – couture of all kinds was missing from Dani's closet! Dani explained that she had sold many outfits for charity to make room for Andre's things now that he was moving in. Chelsea called the “fashion sacrifice” painful and left for the birthday party that Hayley was throwing for Bill. Dani smirked that her invitation must have gotten lost in the mail.

Pamela eyed Andre carefully and decided that he needed to be a model for Dupree-Curtis; she signed him on verbally. Andre objected, insisting he had only come by to unpack. Plus, he didn't want to give up the photography career he loved to sit for pictures. Dani was on board with Pamela but felt she was pressuring her husband; after Pamela departed, Dani gently said that Andre would love being on the other side of the camera, and that the experience would see him grow. Andre was wary of any fame that might result, though Dani assured him he would still have a normal life. Mr. Richardson reiterated that he was only there to stake his claim – on closet space. “You already have my heart,” Dani noted.

Jacob had a surprise for Naomi – a day of pampering at a spa. Naomi grumbled that Jacob hadn't been aware she was attending Bill's party – and besides, she said, no amount of shiatsu was going to take the negative out of her positive pregnancy test result. When Jacob again tried to get her to see that there was an up side to having kids, Naomi told him to back off and snapped that she didn't appreciate him trying to make her wrong when they had gone into marriage agreeing not to have children.

The Hamiltons professed their love to each other, with Naomi feeling they were at a loss over uncharacteristically being so far apart on an issue. Naomi admitted she had spoken to Dani hoping to be won over by motherhood, but her feelings hadn't changed. She didn't want to be a mom, and she reminded Jacob of the promise he had made. Jacob felt Naomi wasn't leaving any room for him or his feelings in the matter; Naomi pressed on that she wanted to be able to help kids through her legal work rather than have any of her own. With Jacob still open to the idea of parenthood, Naomi walked out.

At Orphey Gene's, Samantha was upset that Nathan had agreed to a study date but had flaked by not showing up. When Samantha told June that she was apparently being rejected because she wasn't “down to smash,” June urged her daughter to “move right along.” Samantha fretted that she'd end up with a rep for being uptight, though she was glad she hadn't had sex with Nathan.

After Samantha revealed she had a plan to reconnect with the boy, June recalled how, as a little girl, Samantha had intensely studied Tyrell riding his new bike – and how, when she'd gotten a chance, she'd hopped on herself and rode it like she was unstoppable. Samantha didn't remember the incident and asked if June had more stories like that from her early childhood. June smiled that she had plenty.

June saw Jacob entering and noticed how glum he was. Jacob asked how things were going with Samantha, and June was awed that the teen had been able to forgive her. The detective was glad to see how close mother and daughter had become and asked where Samantha and Tyrell's father was. June would only say that he was gone and attributed it to a “family curse.” If she'd had a father like Jacob, June reckoned, her life would have been very different. Jacob winced as June surmised he would make a great dad.

Martin lumbered down the stairs as Smitty finished up a call on which he'd made a “crazy request.” Smitty said that he had ordered the Thai food the family liked and was glad that he and Martin were back together. The reporter assured the congressman that he could tell him anything because he didn't scare easily.

When Martin was determined to settle in for a relaxing day of binge watching, Smitty attempted to send him on errands, but Martin wanted to stay put. Then, Smitty tried to get his husband to pick up their dinner; Martin scoffed that they could have it delivered. Finally, Tyrell entered and said that Samantha needed picking up, so Martin consented to retrieving his daughter and their food. Once Martin was gone, Tyrell remembered that Smitty hated the Thai place he had ordered from because takeout there took so long. Smitty knew that and conspiratorially told Tyrell that he needed his help.

Hayley got off her phone after checking on Randy's progress in getting her the “shipment” she wanted. When Bill came in to the living room, Hayley wished him a happy birthday and presented him with a crown, promising him a celebration he'd never forget. Bill thought it odd that Hayley added that the occasion would be his only birthday as her husband, but she covered by saying that Bill's stroke months earlier had made her realize they couldn't take things for granted. She was sure that her planned shindig wouldn't be as splashy as anything Dani would do, but Bill was happy to make new memories with Hayley.

Upon seeing Bill's crown, the arriving Chelsea remarked that the only king she liked was Martin Luther. She gifted Bill with a special wallet from ChelseaKat's branch-out into men's accessories and thanked him for making the injunction from the rival company disappear, without which she and Kat couldn't now be in business. Hayley brought out a tray of cupcakes with one gluten and sugar free pastry set aside for Bill, who harrumphed that he wanted to be able to enjoy real treats instead of nutritious imitations. “Are you trying to kill me with that?” he frowned.

When Hayley got a call, Bill switched the wholesome dessert with a regular one. Naomi joined them, and Hayley flashed back to serving Naomi cupcakes that she couldn't stop raving about; Dani had approached and was introduced to Hayley in that moment. After Naomi screwed up her face taking a bite from the new batch, then spitting it out, Hayley became animated and adamant that that particular cake had been meant for Bill. When Bill again cringed over the healthful offering, Chelsea told her father that Hayley was only trying to help.

After Hayley and Bill retreated to the kitchen, Chelsea picked up on Naomi's sullen mood and intuited that her sister had had a fight with her brother-in-law. Naomi wouldn't go into details, instead only asking how Chelsea saw her. Chelsea praised Naomi for being someone tough and dedicated who had wanted to save the world ever since she was little. The designer loved being able to turn to Naomi when she had problems and hoped that Naomi had someone she could turn to, if she didn't think she could get help from Chelsea.

Naomi barely got her tears wiped by the time Bill and Hayley returned. Hayley made a toast decreeing that Bill was the king – and that she, as the all-powerful queen, would be providing the king an heir by his next birthday. Naomi stiffened and made a hasty exit. Hayley hoped she hadn't said something wrong; Bill cracked that the party was still a win because no one had pulled out a gun. Under the guise of desiring to have a more successful event the next time, Hayley knowingly purred, “If at first you don't succeed...”, seeing she wasn't going to get the poisoned cupcake into Bill.

Martin encountered Jacob as he picked Samantha up from the diner. Jacob expressed regret that he had likely played a part in Smitty and Martin's separation. Martin didn't hold a grudge, noting that Jacob had just been doing his job – and remarking that he never wanted to be apart from his family again, since family was everything.

June continued her conversation with Jacob, thanking him for giving her a chance when they met and not just locking her up. When June asked Jacob if he and Naomi had ever discussed becoming parents, Jacob played it off, saying it wasn't in their plan. Still, he wished that the regimented Naomi could learn to get joy out of life's surprises.

Naomi went to Ashley at the hospital and confessed that she might be pregnant. She explained how she and Jacob had made a pact not to have children – but now he seemed like a different guy in how excited he was at the prospect of being a father. Ashley listened as Naomi shared her concern that Jacob had only agreed to a childless life because it was what Naomi had wanted to hear. Naomi still couldn't see things Jacob's way and recognized that the home test that had verified her pregnancy wasn't as accurate as a hospital blood test. Ashley agreed to administer it and caringly avowed that Naomi was strong enough to handle whatever result it displayed.

Samantha and Martin arrived home to the brownstone, confused by the low lighting and candles they came upon; they didn't think that went with their imminent night of TV and takeout. A dressed-up Smitty emerged and dropped to one knee...asking Martin to marry him again.
