On Beyond the Gates, Naomi seemed sullen as she showed Jacob her positive pregnancy test, but Jacob was excited to see the results and got animated about either childproofing their current place or getting a bigger one – perhaps in Fairmont Crest, where the schools were better. Jacob soon realized Naomi considered expecting a child unwanted news; she claimed she wasn't a birthing machine and didn't want Jacob thinking she was subject to her biological clock.

Jacob listened as Naomi bemoaned likely having been careless with her birth control because of her upset over Chelsea's kidnapping. Naomi said she wanted to be a great attorney who got laws changed, and having a baby wasn't a part of that plan. Jacob replied that Naomi didn't have to give up her career to be a mother, but Naomi stated that expectations for working women were much different than expectations for working men. She would be seen as a mom who didn't have her priorities straight, she lamented.

Naomi felt Jacob wasn't listening to her as he kept countering her arguments against having children, which was something they had agreed not to do when they'd gotten married. The lawyer reminded Jacob that he had a dangerous job and wondered how he would handle a screaming infant in the middle of the night while being exhausted from having conducted a stakeout. Jacob lovingly prophesied all the firsts they would have with their son or daughter, but Naomi remembered growing up feeling that Dani was grieving her old life, having quit being a supermodel in favor of being a wife and mother.

Jacob said that any child with Naomi would be a manifestation of their love. Naomi was concerned that she'd let that child down, but allowed herself to more deeply consider Jacob's words. She could see how much the idea of fatherhood meant to him and couldn't deny that he had painted a beautiful picture of Saturday mornings and holidays. But, while Naomi admitted that Jacob would make a great dad, she felt like she was dumping on his dream, though he understandingly noted that his wife was just telling him how she felt. Naomi acknowledged that Jacob was happy...but she just wasn't.

Ashley wowed Derek with an Italian dinner, which reminded him of some of the meals he'd cooked up with his fellow firefighters. Derek was bothered that his wheelchair was their unwanted dinner guest, prompting Ashley to say that the device was only a plot twist, not an ending. Ashley's mood dimmed when she got a notification on her phone from a gossip site talking about the chances of Andre and Dani's marriage lasting, but when Derek asked about her mood shifting, Ashley lied that she had been asked to work an overnighter.

Derek was pleased with the dessert Ashley presented him, but he slyly said he was hoping for something more indulgent. Ashley got the meaning and asked Derek if he was sure he wanted to make love, since there was no rush to resume intimacy. Derek wondered if his fiancée was unwilling, so she moved him into the bed and emerged from their bathroom wearing sexy lingerie. Derek joked that all the upper body muscle movement would align with his physical therapy, but he became frustrated that he couldn't make love normally because of not being able to use his legs. Baldwin negatively pondered what kind of husband he was going to be; the nurse told him they were just going to have to get creative and began to demonstrate.

Faced with having to explain to Donnell how she knew Joey, Vanessa smiled that she and Armstrong were business partners, having gotten into real estate investments together. Joey elaborated, “It's a relatively new turn of events, son” – causing Donnell to immediately interject that he wasn't Joey's son. Vanessa cryptically added that she simply couldn't resist the opportunity to work with Joey. Seeing Donnell's bewilderment, Joey tried to distract the young man by offering him a drink.

Donnell regretted that he was supposed to have his first drink with his father, which was now not going to happen. Joey served them Scotch and toasted to Doug, but Donnell suddenly realized that Joey hadn't reacted when he'd remarked that Doug's watch had been inscribed by Vanessa. Why hadn't Joey mentioned that he knew his mother? Joey reasoned that Donnell had enough to process with his father gone; Donnell didn't understand how a man who had put himself through medical school would lose so badly in a casino that he had to bet his beloved watch.

After Donnell got a video call from his frat buddies, who had put together a tribute to Doug, Vanessa rhapsodized about surprising Doug with the watch for their tenth anniversary – a time during which the marrieds had been struggling to connect. When Donnell again addressed the disparity between Doug teaching him about financial responsibility and Doug freely gambling away his money, Vanessa stressed that Doug had been an addict – and that, if he hadn't been drinking and gambling at the Lakeview, he could easily have done so at another establishment.

“It's not like someone put him in that car,” Donnell finally reckoned. Vanessa began to lead her son out so he could help her with the planning for Doug's memorial; Donnell shook Joey's hand and thanked him for getting the watch away from his dealer, Drake, as having his father's timepiece would surely help him to heal. Once alone, Joey called Drake and praised him for “playing along with the kid,” assuring the man of his position and confirming that Drake's extra payment was forthcoming. Joey was sure that Donnell wouldn't be able to piece together what had actually happened to Doug.

Andre was interested in further details of Dani's conversation with Bill, but she no longer wanted to discuss her “trifling ex” and declared her house a Bill-free zone. However, as Andre gave Dani a foot massage and noticed a scar, Dani reminisced about how she had gotten it stepping on one of Naomi's toys while pregnant with Chelsea, and how Bill had massaged her feet regularly after that. The memory unsettled Andre; after Dani relayed how Bill had gotten a hold of their marriage certificate and had offered to annul Dani's marriage for free, Andre determined that Bill had as hard a time letting go of Dani as Dani did of Bill.

Dani reiterated that she had never masked her lingering feelings for Bill and knew that Andre still had his own for “sweet, simple” Ashley, even if she was rather like unseasoned chicken. When Dani went on that she was aware that Andre was counting down the days until it occurred to Ashley that she had made a mistake with Derek, Andre bluntly asked why he and Dani were still even married. He didn't want to lose Ted and Nicole, who were all he had, over their opposition to the union, and he didn't relish having to take more guff from the Duprees about it.

After Dani decided that she liked just having fun with Andre and that a piece of paper didn't change their ability to do so, Dani offered up three ground rules for their marriage. One: they didn't have to be monogamous; they just needed to be honest and safe if they were playing outside of wedlock. Two: if either of them got tired of their arrangement, they needed to be real and own up to it; Dani still wanted to be friends if they broke up, and she said they would deal with it if either of them started catching feelings. Three: Andre had to provide Dani with three orgasms a week. Andre rose to the challenge, and the two made love, which involved Dani's coffee table.

As they got dressed, Dani began to send Andre home, since she had a video chat with Pamela in the morning about their still-in-development modeling agency. Andre wondered why he couldn't just move in. Dani gently replied that she had come to like living alone after so many years of cohabitating with Bill, so Andre requested the use of a drawer that he could keep some things in instead. Dani consented but warned Andre that he could ask for closet space at his own risk.

Hayley wanted to be sure that Bill wasn't disappointed because she wasn't pregnant. After Hayley fretted that Bill might see her as defective because this was the second time a pregnancy hadn't taken, Bill assured her that he had chosen her, not her biology – and besides, they had plenty of time for parenthood. Bill was enjoying having Hayley to himself in the moment. After Hayley decided that she and Bill needed some “babymaking practice,” Bill began to make love to his current wife, but flashed back to when his ex-wife had come at him with a golf club, shot up his wedding, and when she kissed him back earlier that day. Bill stopped the affection, declaring that he had a lot on his mind.

Bill listed off a string of duties awaiting him at his law firm, but Hayley, knowing his workflow and calendar, called him out for wanting to tend to cases that were already taken care of. The Hamiltons argued anew, with Hayley accusing Bill of lying and Bill resenting being cross-examined. When Hayley could tell something was haunting Bill – and if it wasn't Dani, it was something else – Bill huffed about having to be defensive in his own house and having his wife interrogate him 24-7. Hayley was incensed that her husband couldn't even make love to her, so he threw her over his shoulder and carried her up to their bedroom to prove himself.

Moments later, the newlyweds returned to the living room, as Bill had experienced performance anxiety. When Hayley ranted that she knew who was in Bill's head, and that she hated having to compete for space in it, Bill warned her to choose her next words very carefully. Hayley wished to have the same parental connection with Bill that he had with Dani and suggested that Bill talk to a doctor about his issue. Bill scoffed that he didn't need pills and stomped out to take a walk.

Bill came home not long after and reported that his walk had calmed him down, as he'd hoped it would. He was frustrated that Hayley was still insecure and making accusations about him and Dani when he had already set boundaries with Dani on Hayley's instruction. Besides, Dani was no longer their problem, Bill told Hayley – she was now solely the headache of her new husband, Andre.
