Here's what went down Thursday, October 30, 2025 on Beyond the Gates when Derek tried to play Pin the Date on the Calendar, angels and witches existed in the same universe, and Nathan gave his game away.
What happened on Beyond the Gates

On Beyond the Gates, Vernon liked Nicole's sparse Halloween night decorations, but Nicole felt there was something missing – her Pumpkin Roll Febreze, which she liberally sprayed around the room and went into raptures about with her father. The patriarch remembered the way the now-ex-Richardsons' house used to be decked out with elaborate themes and how Ted and Nicole had always worn intricate, matching costumes; Vernon realized that Nicole must have having a hard time experiencing her first All Hallows Eve without Ted.
After Nicole sighed that she had done the bare minimum by comparison, Leslie, dressed as an angel, got past Nicole's security camera by bribing children to pose in front of it. Leslie demanded candy and made sure to minimize Nicole as much as she could, going on to preen that her in-the-works “palace” would end up raising everyone's property value. Vernon decried Leslie's “petty harassment,” and the uncostumed former senator said he was, in reality, dressed as “a fed-up father ready to call security.” Leslie shrugged and grabbed a substantial handful of Nicole's trick-or-treat goodies on her way out.
Nicole and Vernon settled in to watch a scary movie together, during which Nicole lamented that her whole life was a horror show at the moment. Vernon knew that Carlton had long had a crush on Nicole and wondered why his daughter was being so hesitant regarding him. Nicole had expected a lack of drama with Carlton but hadn't fully taken into account the “inconvenient truth” that Carlton and Ted were friends and business partners; the psychiatrist described for Vernon how the men had nearly come to blows at the hospital. Vernon felt that Carlton's only crime had been his attraction to Nicole and intuited that Nicole was less annoyed by Carlton's flexing than she was scared of feeling anything for him because her marriage to Ted had ended in heartbreak.
Ted drowned his Halloween sorrows with Andre at Uptown, feeling he should be home with Nicole, wearing those “ridiculous costumes” that made Nicole happy. Andre listened to Ted complain about Carlton and determined that there should have been a “bro code” that prevented Carlton from pursuing Nicole. Ted admitted that Carlton wasn't an enemy, but he had still come “this close” to clocking him...and all because he had caught a glimpse of hope with Nicole and acted a fool because of it.
Dr. Richardson explained that he and Nicole had almost made love but had been foiled by a fire alarm, not to mention Nicole had been running ever since. Andre advised his uncle to do nothing where Nicole was concerned; if the former marrieds reunited, it was meant to be. If not, and Carlton moved in with Nicole, which Ted fretted was a possibility, then Andre felt Ted would at least know where he stood.
Once Andre left, Leslie joined Ted at the Uptown bar, proud of her winged costume and talking about the leather jacket she had donated to charity. Ted retorted that Leslie had only gotten rid of evidence, but Leslie frowned that Ted was still crying over his ex-wife. Leslie hesitated after Ted, having heard that Leslie had stopped by Nicole's, asked about Nicole's spirits and Halloween décor. “So Nicole can't do without me,” Ted commented with satisfaction upon hearing about Nicole's half-hearted efforts. Leslie couldn't understand why Ted was still fixated on his marriage when it was officially dead and buried; Ted decried that a piece of paper wasn't going to stop him.
Leslie mellowed and tried to tell Ted that what he was holding out for was already gone. Ted, for a moment, saw reason for him and Leslie to be friends, as well as the waitress he'd known long ago. Leslie was pleased that Ted could also sense that waitress in Eva. Was the old “Dana” still in there? Ted wanted to know. “Dana” said that destroying Ted's life hadn't been as satisfying as she'd envisioned and declared that she wasn't trying to tear him apart anymore. Ted and Leslie remembered how he'd sought her out in the past when he was having trouble with Nicole, much like he was in the present. Leslie hadn't known what Ted's specific problem was; she'd only realized that Ted had needed some extra attention.
Ted wondered if it were really possible for him and Leslie to sustain a friendship. After he added that Leslie had raised Eva to be amazing, Leslie, with no pretense or seduction, took the compliment, excused herself, and said that spending time with Ted that Halloween had been the real treat.
At the Richardson-Smith brownstone, Samantha pouted that she should change into an orange jumpsuit, since being grounded on Halloween was tantamount to being in prison. Samantha especially bristled when Jessica arrived for Tyrell to take her to a costume party. Jessica tried to negotiate when, after Martin and Smitty laid down the rules for her and Tyrell's date, they set a curfew for 10:30. “My dads are suddenly pro-condom for my bro, but not me,” Samantha whined.
Samantha couldn't understand why she couldn't have sex when their parents did all the time. Smitty recalled thinking he knew everything at Samantha's age; when she decided she needed to talk to a woman about her predicament, her dads agreed, but they wouldn't give Samantha back her phone so she could call Nicole, and they opted to accompany the teen to Nicole's house.
Tyrell and Jessica had stopped at Orphey Gene's before their party, where they overheard Nathan on his phone bragging that it would just be a matter of time before he added Samantha to his “body count.” Jessica found Nathan disgusting, and when Tyrell was adamant that Nathan wouldn't be hearing from Samantha anymore, Nathan asked, “then why is she blowing up my phone?” Nathan thought it hilarious that Samantha had outsmarted everyone by using Tyrell's device to contact him right under his nose.
Nathan was ready to fight when Tyrell said that he had no brains and no heart, adding that Jessica was only going out with Tyrell out of pity. Tyrell wouldn't throw hands with the football player, who eventually said Tyrell wasn't worth it and stalked out. Tyrell admitted to Jessica that he had been shaking, but that he couldn't allow Nathan to talk about his sister like that. Jessica assured Tyrell that there had been some “dumb kids” who didn't think he was worth her time, but she had just found him “brave and hot”; she proposed that they skip the party and just stay at the diner because she wanted to be alone with him. Tyrell and Jessica shared a gentle kiss.
Smitty and Martin escorted the sullen Samantha into Nicole's living room; she named herself “the girl from The Handsmaid's Tale” and decided to “appeal to a higher court” – in this case, Nicole. Samantha's grandmother was shocked when Samantha announced that she wanted to move in and berated her fathers for not being “sex positive.” Nicole had Samantha delve into her situation with Nathan, finding out that the boy had had a condom at the ready. Elsewhere in the house, Vernon told the story of how a grounded, teenaged Dani had been caught trying to get out of the house by climbing down bedsheets. Martin and Smitty concurred when Vernon advised them to lead with love in dealing with Samantha.
Nicole got Samantha to confirm that she had never been with a boy before, and that she had initiated the potential lovemaking. Ms. Dupree opined that virginity shouldn't be something that's lost on a couch with someone one had no real connection with, as if it were an item to be scratched off an a to-do list. Samantha didn't deny that she wanted Nathan to be her boyfriend; Nicole said that having sex first was doing things in reverse. As Nicole was asking Samantha where she'd gotten the idea to take that step, and Samantha admitted that it had come from Kat, Martin, coming to see if anyone wanted cocoa, overheard.
Both Vernon and Smitty tried to cool down Martin, who was ready to have more than one word with his sister for so openly talking about sex with Samantha in the room. Nicole also wanted more level heads to prevail and suggested that Martin wait to confront Kat. Samantha returned to her idea to stay with Nicole until things mellowed out, but Nicole wanted her to return home with her parents. “Worst Halloween ever,” Samantha wailed.
Derek again made efforts to stand up from his wheelchair, but he was interrupted by the returning Ashley, who had been flustered by the extra Halloween traffic. She grumbled that she had been so busy, she hadn't had time to get their outfits for Alix's costume party, but Derek had it taken care of: he had gotten them a retro tux and wedding dress. Ashley grinned that Derek wanted them to practice being a bride and groom, though she missed Derek's veiled comment that their real wedding would be better in ways that she hadn't imagined.
After attending Alix's party, Derek and Ashley ran into Andre, with Ashley telling the shutterbug that he should have come by. Ashley and Andre started talking about languages, with Andre surprised that Ashley was learning Spanish with Derek instead of French. After Ashley briefly stepped away, Derek boasted about how he and Ashley were settling back into their routines – plus, seeing Ashley hold Alix's baby had helped him visualize what having a child with her would be like. Andre stated that he was happy with Dani, who had been the surprise of his life.
Derek suddenly asked Andre what he would do if things didn't work out with Dani. Andre didn't see the point of the question, and Derek looked squeamish when Andre noted that Derek would have to do something “villainous” to mess things up with Ashley.
Andre went home to be with Dani, and Derek began encouraging the returning Ashley to pick out a wedding date with him. Despite Derek's suggestions, Ashley popped off that she had been overloaded at the hospital and hadn't been able to find time to breathe, let alone narrow down when to get married.
