Jaden Lucas Miller is making a name for himself. As Tyrell Richardson on CBS’ newest daytime drama, Miller has taken center stage in his storyline, and his portrayal recently earned him Soap Central’s Performer of the Week. A sophomore at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, Jaden Lucas Miller is balancing two careers. He has been a psychology major while also an actor, but he has designed a way to combine the two.
While attending the John R. and Kathy R. Harrison College of Health and Human Sciences, Miller explained in a university interview, “With psychology, I understand myself and others better. Being able to understand that and then step into the realm of acting with that type of mindset, and learning how to break down characters, learning their motivations and how they were brought up, is a very interesting aspect of it.”
Miller was in his dorm room when he got the call that he won the part of Tyrell Richardson. In reflection, he noted, “Sometimes we take it as we get to be on TV, but I took it as a blessing. As a young Black male, I think these stories deserve to be told in the right way and by the right people.”

“I want to be a part of history, getting to learn about different people, their backgrounds and being able to tell stories and biopics one day. That's a very big motivator and I would like to be a part of that, and if I can have acting be that stepping stone, I would love to keep pursuing it and achieving it,” Miller shared.
Premiering Feb. 24, Beyond the Gates broke ground as the first Black-centric daytime drama on CBS and the first new daytime soap on a significant American network since Passions in 1999. Veteran soap writer and producer Michele Val Jean created the show; Sheila Ducksworth, president of the CBS Studios/NAACP venture partnership, is a co-executive producer.
Miller will get his chance to continue to strive at “making an impact and telling stories of underrepresented populations.” On May 12th, CBS announced that Beyond the Gates was renewed for a second season.
Miller continues to pursue other roles as well while continuing to earn his psychology degree. He will star in the new BET series “Divorce Sisters,” premiering June 9. “Every time I go into an audition, I know the sacrifices that were put in,” Miller said.
