Beyond the Gates first aired in February 2025 and made an immediate impact. In May, it was renewed for a second season — and has now been named one of the top TV shows of 2025.
Beyond the Gates roars straight out of the gates
Lots of new shows struggle to get traction and attract an audience to buy into their distinctive setting and unique cast with character quirks and intriguing back stories. Nothing could be further from that for CBS’ Beyond the Gates. The drama unfolded straight away, and they weren’t waiting for us to get settled on our couches with a hot brew. We were given an affair being made public, a shoot-up at a wedding, slaps, golf clubs crashing desks, a hint of a violent incident in a prominent Congressman's past — and that was just the first week. The show kicked off its dramatic entrance with scenes mostly due to Dani Dupree (Karla Mosley), who raced straight to the top of fan-favorite characters with her portrayal of a woman on the edge after discovering her marriage was in disarray.
Renewed and a top 25 hit
Fast-forward to today, and episode 83 is airing. The daytime serial has not only been renewed for a second season but has also been named one of the top shows of 2025 by Entertainment Weekly. This is huge at a time when the soap opera genre hasn’t had a new show since 1999. Let that sink in: It’s been 27 years since we got a new daytime TV soap opera. Even more noteworthy is the fact that Beyond the Gates is also the first daytime TV show to air with a predominantly Black cast since Generations, which ended its run in 1991.
One of the BTG stars, Jen Jacob, who plays nurse Ashley Morgan, took to her Instagram page to shout out the accolades Entertainment Weekly gave the show, and proud they should be. Beyond the Gates deals out, week to week, with a visionary delivery of drama, intrigue, and suspense, and more soapiness than a Procter & Gamble commercial for Tide.
