On The Young and the Restless, Chancellor is within Cane’s grasp. Since pretending to be Aristotle Dumas, he hasn’t allowed anything to happen unless it’s been by his design — but is his fortunate streak about to end?

Cane (Billy Flynn) sat down with Holden Novak (Nathan Owens) on his short trip to Genoa City and told his seemingly rehired employee that every move he makes is well thought out, with every possibility explored, and nothing left to chance. But Cane’s meticulously planned moves, designed to succeed, seem to be failing him currently. The one thing that cannot be planned for — the human factor — is a spanner in the works.

Well laid plans

When Cane invited all his guests to the estate of Aristotle Dumas, he probably never imagined that things would go this wrong. Surely he planned on a little bit of drama; he invited a veritable who’s who list of divas from Genoa City. Kyle (Michael Mealor) and Audra (Zuleyka Silver) were destined to implode in scandal, and sure enough, Kyle needed to cheat on Claire to prove that Audra wanted him to cheat on Claire. It makes sense to Kyle, but we’re pretty sure Claire will agree with us that it was not the most well-thought-out plan.

Billy’s (Jason Thompson) desire to get Chancellor back at any cost has led to the fracture between him and his brother, Jack (Peter Bergman). Sally (Courtney Hope) went swimming for 5 weeks and then miraculously saved Nick’s (Joshua Morrow) life with circus tricks after he won the fight against a security guard but lost versus the wooden chest. Sharon (Sharon Case) ended up imprisoned again — the third time in 7 months. I guess we all need a talent.

Oh, and Canes' ex-employee Damian (Jermaine Rivers) got murdered when a skillfully thrown dagger was hurled into his back, causing his immediate and fatal removal from the show. Still see your name on the credits though, mate…is that just false hope on our part or should we read into it?

As usual, Victor (Eric Braeden) has had to save the entire guest list single-handedly. I’d say he had help from Detective Chance, but he really hasn't. He’s going toe-to-toe against Cane Ashby and holding his own like the power house he is. Nikki (Melody Thomas Scott) lent an ear to Lauren (Tracy Bregman) as they discussed why Sharon and Nick were taken captive on so-called house arrest (questionable legality here). And then things took a weird twist (yep, we said it), when Nikki couldn’t take it anymore, and decided to sacrifice Chancellor to get Nick and Sharon released. Well, she did say Nick, anyway. We’ll assume it was a package deal and Sharon wouldn’t have remained captive.

Cane’s lawyer, Amanda (Mishael Morgan), is ready with the paperwork all drawn up, the transfer of Chancellor to Cane, and also a sworn affidavit saying Nick had nothing to do with Damian's murder. How convenient. If only Chance had the insight, foresight, and independence that Amanda does — he might have solved a case by now.

Cane had set the perfect combination of people to cause strife amongst each other, but is the plan, a well-laid plan, just on the cusp of falling apart? It all hinges on one person: Carter (Vincent Stalba). But what will happen when Cane discovers what Carter has done? And will Cane become collateral damage of Carter’s actions, with all of his secrecy, plotting, and efforts for his big reveal turn out to be a waste of the last six of his life? At least he still has his billions…for now. Leave a thought or comment below
