I Love You, Goodbye

I Love You, Goodbye

What's worse than saying goodbye? Saying goodbye to a relationship with someone you love that you don't really want to let go of. A few Genoa City couples made that hard decision to say goodbye this week -- and a few others may be headed in that direction! You might want to put the Celine Dion song "I Love You, Goodbye" on repeat as you join our Two Scoops columnist in reliving all the drama from this past week on The Young and the Restless!

Well, I'm convinced that the writers are trying to give me whiplash (or just a bad headache). All the back-and-forth between Adam and Sally is enough to drive me crazy! Could it really be the actual end of them after this past week? And if so, why do the writers hate me so much?

I am truly dumbfounded by the turn of events that unfolded after Adam and Sally finally reconnected and made love in her hotel room. But I guess it wasn't really "making love" and was, instead, just goodbye sex, since they decided afterwards that they had lost something they couldn't get back, and it was time they let each other go. When I tell you that my jaw dropped to the floor, I am not exaggerating! There I was, enjoying my morning and reveling in the fact that the writers were finally giving Adam/Sally fans a payoff for all the torture they'd put us through over the last few months (by rewarding us with a reunion) when, suddenly, the rug was pulled out from under us (after slapping us in the face) yet again.

I just don't get it. I can only surmise that the writers aren't ready to put Nick and Sharon back together, so they are trying to pair them with other people on the show in the meantime. It seems like they are pushing Sharon and Chance toward one another, and it looks like they are really committed to continuing to force Nick and Sally as a couple, too (even though I am fairly certain most fans want to see Adam with Sally instead). It is so frustrating! Someone in that writers' room needs to be fired (or at least be sat in a "time out corner," where they can't hurt Adam and Sally anymore)!

It was heartbreaking to see Adam and Sally tearfully talk themselves out of giving their relationship another chance after they had sex for seemingly the last time. They both admitted they had a deep connection and listed off all the things that they loved and admired about one another -- but then somehow settled on deciding that their relationship has boiled down to just something that has helped them learn to be a better partner for someone else in the future? Huh?! Sorry, writers, but I don't buy this narrative that you are trying to sell. I'm just so confused by this sudden turn in their story.

Who will Adam even be paired with now? Perhaps we could see Adam and Sharon reunite, which I'm not 100% against if it really is over for Adam and Sally. I always liked Adam and Sharon together back in the day. I just know that I really don't want to see a Billy/Chelsea/Adam love triangle start up next. The writing is on the wall regarding Billy and Lily's relationship, and I don't doubt that they will be the next couple to call it quits.

That is one breakup that I'm actually looking forward to! I loved the way that Lily brushed Billy off at Crimson Lights when he tried to start an argument with her about how her conversation with Chelsea had gone. Lily had every right to point out to Chelsea that she might be leaning on Billy too much. And I feel like she did so tactfully while still showing concern for Chelsea's mental health crisis. And Billy has no right to be jealous of the time Lily is spending with Daniel, given how much time he spends with Chelsea.

I do think Billy and Chelsea will end up back together, but I don't want to see Adam entwined in their story. The writers just need to focus on the "love square" aspect of it all with Chelsea/Billy/Lily/Daniel and leave Adam out of it. I've got my fingers crossed that Lily's resolution for the new year will be to dump Billy and reignite the flame of her first love with Daniel. Whether or not Chelsea and Billy end up together is not something I am invested in one way or the other, but it sounds more interesting than the Billy and Lily snoozefest. I do hope that Billy and Chelsea have more fun scenes together and that it is not all doom and gloom. These two are a lot of fun when given the right material.

As for Lily and Daniel, how great have their scenes been together since he returned to town?! Is everyone loving them as much as I am? If Daniel is staying in town and he and Lily want to pursue something romantically again, then I can't imagine that Heather (whom he is seemingly still in a relationship with) will stay out of town for much longer because we will need some closure on their relationship first. I would actually love to see Heather back (along with Daniel's daughter, Lucy) in the new year! Hell, maybe Adam could be paired with Heather if/when Daniel dumps her for Lily! Or maybe it is time that Adam and Chance just finally admit that they are more than friends and we find out that they were hooking up when they lived in Vegas together (but I know that will only happen in my wildest dreams)! Y&R is not that daring, sadly.

While we are on the topic of Chance, can anyone tell me why he is the one moving out of his family's house now that he and Abby are divorcing? I'm trying to understand why Abby is staying in the Chancellor mansion and Chance Chancellor is leaving. Does Jill know about this?! I'm sure she'd have a few choice words to say about it! Abby belongs to two wealthy families in town that have their own large mansions and plenty of available rooms, so why isn't she moving in with one of them? Where is Chance moving to, even? Did I miss that? I swear, these writers are really testing me lately with some of their choices!

Aside from that absurd aspect of this divorce storyline, the goodbye scenes were really well done as Chance moved out this week. Both actors did a great job portraying the angst of leaving behind a broken marriage even when there is still love there between the two characters. Love was never their problem, though -- it was their different expectations about what marriage should be that ultimately pulled them apart. Chance was right when he admitted they got married too quickly. They should have spent more time living together and learning what their lives would be like together before they made that decision (and before they brought a child into it). A lot of divorces could be avoided if more people did this!

Who would you all like to see Abby and Chance paired with now? Do you like the idea of Chance/Sharon and Abby/Devon? Or what other couplings do you have in mind for them? Let's not forget that Audra and/or Allie may also be single soon!

I thought for sure that Allie was going to walk in on Audra and Noah kissing but I was glad that I was wrong. I really like Allie, and I don't want to see her get hurt! But I do feel for Noah, too. The revelation that Audra found out she was pregnant and then miscarried right after Noah left her in London definitely shook him up a bit and has him wondering what might have been. It's hard to deny that they have chemistry together (maybe more than he does with Allie) but I do like him and Allie as a couple, too. This one has me a bit torn on who to root for, but for now, I'm Team Allie.

I was shocked that after Audra kissed Noah and professed her feelings for him, Audra and Tucker ended up having sex! I get that she was hurt by Noah telling her they couldn't be together, but I just didn't think Audra and Tucker's relationship was like that. It seemed like they had a purely professional relationship up until now -- and that is probably still true. It did seem like Tucker was surprised by her coming on to him, so it may have been the first time that anything sexual happened between them.

Regardless of whether it was their first time having sex or not, I don't think Tucker and Audra have any sort of romantic feelings for each other. They just both needed to find comfort with someone to work out their frustrations with the people they truly love but can't have. Tucker made yet another attempt at trying to convince Ashley that they belong together, and Ashley shut him down yet again. I really enjoyed their scenes, and I am sort of rooting for Tucker to win her over.

Eileen Davidson and Trevor St. John have really great screen chemistry, and I can't say that I wouldn't find it entertaining to see Ashley and Tucker give love another shot together. Of course, Tucker will need to forget about his plans to take over Jabot if he has any hope of winning Ashley over. I'm not sure why he thinks it's a good idea to go after her family's company while also courting her romantically. He needs to decide which goal he wants to attain more and either let Ashley go or let Jabot go.

Speaking of letting go, Diane had to temporarily say goodbye to Genoa City to hide out from Jeremy Stark now that he is out of prison and has found her in town. I wish I could say I was surprised that Phyllis called him to tell him Diane was the one to help put him in prison and then clue him in on exactly where he could find her. Phyllis is only focusing on her goal of getting rid of Diane and not considering the fallout of her actions. Everyone in Diane's orbit -- including Phyllis' daughter and stepgrandson -- could face harm now that Jeremy is in town and out for revenge. Jack was right to be furious with both her and Ashley for the role they played in bringing Jeremy to town.

Now that Jeremy is in town with his sights set on revenge, Diane needs to be prepared for battle rather than trying to run away from it. I don't really think the plan to get her out of town and keep her hidden at the Abbott cabin is the best idea. I get that they want to give the impression that Diane has left town for good in hopes that Jeremy will leave town, too, but that is really just wishful thinking on their part and not very practical. It is more likely that Diane is going to be in even more danger at the cabin because she is going to be by herself a lot (except for when Kyle and Jack visit). I'm guessing that Jeremy is going to find out where she is, and he'll go after her when she's not protected.

Although, it is possible that Diane's trip to the cabin could be less of a horror movie and more of a romantic drama if the writers are using her trip as a plot device to bring her and Jack closer together. It already has felt like Jack is starting to soften toward her and start to have feelings for her (and we know that Diane has feelings for him already). If/when he goes to visit her at the cabin, they will have a lot of uninterrupted time to discover their love for one another again. But who's to say it can't be a horror and a romantic drama? I am betting that we will see Jeremy stalking her up at the cabin -- and maybe that will even be where this whole storyline climaxes in dramatic and suspenseful fashion!

I hope they don't move the story forward too quickly, though. I am enjoying James Hyde in the role of Jeremy Stark and hope he will be around for a little while. There could be a lot of fun layers to peel back with Diane living at the cabin. It would be fun to see her relationship with Jack grow alongside the underlying tension of Jeremy stalking her. It's been awhile since Y&R has had a truly villainous character like Jeremy, so I hope the writers have some fun with him and bring some more suspense to the show. I'm looking forward to seeing how this all plays out!
