Did Mariah commit murder on The Young and the Restless?

On The Young and the Restless, Mariah’s been holding onto a secret. Thanks to another flashback today, the viewers got to see…Mariah committing murder?

Mariah’s dark secret on The Young and the Restless

After weeks of Tessa (Cait Fairbanks), Sharon (Sharon Case) — and viewers — wondering what it was that happened on Mariah’s last business trip, today we got a glimpse at what her secret was all about. Mariah had come across her wife, Tessa, in the park with Daniel (Michael Graziadei). Mariah could tell the two were becoming closer, but in another flashback, Mariah recalled being with a mystery man (Michael Swan) on her business trip. The pair were drinking and seemed to lean in for a kiss. The next thing we saw was Mariah in an armchair, crying and clutching a pillow. In the scene, she also seemed shocked.

Daniel has been aware that there’s trouble in paradise for the couple. Tessa has shared with him that she and Mariah have separated and why. She also told Daniel that it didn’t matter what happened on Mariah’s business trip; she would be there for her when she was ready to tell her the truth. Daniel had suggested to Tessa that whatever it was, it might be more dark than she realizes. But Tessa thought the worst-case scenario would be that Mariah cheated and fell in love with someone else. Daniel, however, thought it seemed more like Mariah did something so dark, that Tessa could never even imagine her capable of it, let alone be able to guess.

When Daniel left so Mariah and Tessa could talk, it didn’t go too well. Tessa is upset that Mariah won’t tell her what is going on, and whatever it is about, it’s so bad that Mariah abruptly told Tessa that they needed a separation and moved out. It’s a confusing time for the couple and for their daughter Aria. With Mariah refusing to share what is really going on, Tessa angrily suggested that they make the separation permanent and stormed off.

Mariah smothers the man

Mariah called after her wife to no avail. She wanted to tell Tessa the truth, but then had another flashback. This time, there was no mistaking what the viewers were shown: Mariah straddling the man on a couch with the pillow over his face. She removed the pillow momentarily, and he gasped for air. And Mariah smothered him with the pillow again, firmly holding it on his face as he struggled to survive.

Did Mariah see the man as Ian Ward (Ray Wise)? Did she take out all of her anger and rage for Ian on the man? Had she really killed him that night, or did just trying to do it scare her enough to leave her family? Things don’t look good for Mariah or her future with Tessa.
