On The Young and the Restless, Lily Winters claims that due to a series of hard knocks in business, she’s had to toughen up. But does she just have a hard exterior now, or is she just as good at playing games as her ex?

On The Young and the Restless, Lily Winters (Christel Khalil) has been on a tear for a while now. Ever since she was told to share the CEO chair at Chancellor Industries with Billy (Jason Thompson), Lily’s been in a bad mood.

Despite her brother trying to convince her to breathe, Lily thundered through Genoa City, trying to sabotage Jill’s (Jess Walton) confidence in her son, teaming up with Victor (Eric Braeden) to bring him down, only to be double-crossed by Victor and Nikki (Melody Thomas Scott) even further when they bought the company and demoted her even further. Lily was so furious, she almost boycotted her brother and best friend Devon’s wedding as he married Victor’s daughter, Abby (Melissa Ordway).

Eventually on The Young and the Restless, Lily returned to the family biz to work with Devon (Bryton James) and Nate (Sean Dominic), but it didn’t stop her cool exterior from making things awkward when Damian Kane (Jermaine Rivers) and Holden Novak (Nathan Owens) came to town. As her cousin Nate’s half-brother, Damian wanted to get to know Lily better, but instead found himself as her verbal dartboard in nearly every conversation. Eventually, they found a common ground, and the pair grew closer, but only mere days before Damian died.

Regardless of who Lily was upset with, all of her anger and resentment has found a new home: pointed directly at her ex-husband, Cane Ashby.

Lily and Cane

Moments before Cane Ashby revealed himself to the rest of his guests, he let Lily know that he was the infamous Aristotle Dumas. And Lily was outraged.

Cane has made it clear that he still loves Lily, and he wants her back. But Lily has been blatant to the point of rudeness when she says the feeling isn’t mutual. The strange thing is that Lily claims to want nothing to do with Cane, but makes a lot of time to let him know her opinions about every aspect of his life.

Lily has been demanding answers from Cane, while lying to him as well. She used their kids as leverage to try to get him to talk, and balked when he declined. She demands to know why Holden is talking about a job opportunity with Cane, and implies that he could get a knife in his back being around his boss.

Lily reluctantly admitted that Cane didn’t kill Damian, but accused him of not trying to save him, either — which wasn’t true. Lily’s narrative is that Cane deceived his children, when in actuality, he hasn’t lied to any of them; he just hadn’t told anyone that he was running his businesses under another name.

TeamLily or TeamCane?

So why is Lily this angry at Cane on The Young and the Restless? She said she was mad at him years ago when he suggested letting his ailing dad, Colin (then-Tristan Rogers) meet his grandchildren. Although she may have had a different opinion on the matter, their “kids” were young adults who could make their own decisions. And Cane hasn’t actually hurt them, or Lily for that matter. By her own admission, they had been getting along and co-parenting for quite a while before that conversation ever happened.

Fans on the Soap Central Message Boards weighed in. "I would be more upset that he lied about the roads being blocked and basically held everyone captive and because of that, 3 people died under his watch," said prissaO.

"I can see absolutely no reason why those kids would care that their father made billions of dollars and, even more absurdly, used an alias to do it ... Lily needs a psychiatrist. She is so jaded she can't see anything but her own hatred of Cane, for whatever reason she has held on to." — Soap Central Message Board commenter, CloverLeaf

Why does Lily feel like she has the right to be so involved and well, bossy about Cane and his life? They are not married, and their children are adults. What are we missing here — does she have unresolved feelings for Cane after all? Is she willing to consider reuniting with Cane, but is worried about what other people think about his stint as Aristotle?

Other message board users could see Lily's point. "It would be unsettling if you found out that your dad had been leading a secret double life for 6 years," wrote mslat92.

Cane says that Lily is “passionate” about her opinion. But we think it won’t be long before all of those pent-up feelings will become passion between Lily and Cane.
