How The Young and the Restless' Adam went from nice guy one minute to jerk the next

Sometimes, The Young and the Restless' Adam acts like a bouncing rubber ball. He can be the most thoughtful guy in the world, and in a heartbeat, he turns into a nasty excuse for a human being.

Maybe it's because he's Victor's son, but Nick doesn't act like that. We want better for Adam.

What happened Tuesday on The Young and the Restless

On Tuesday's episode of The Young and the Restless, Adam (Mark Grossman) did one good thing that was immediately followed by one bad thing.

During his meeting with Victor (Eric Braeden), Adam volunteered to go to Los Angeles to offer Nick (Joshua Morrow) "back-up" in Nick's battle with Matt Clark (Roger Howarth). What's especially wonderful about that gesture is that Adam doesn't even know Matt Clark. He was only a toddler when Matt raped Sharon all those decades ago. So, even though Matt didn't hurt Adam personally, Adam still wants to lend a helping hand. That's a selfless gesture on his part, and we applaud him for it. He wants to support his big brother and Sharon through this distressing period in their lives.

But then, barely two breaths later, Adam morphed into an absolute jerk when he revealed to Victor that he knows who Abbott Communications' investor is: Jill Abbott (Jess Walton). He asked Victor to convince Jill to drop the funding. So, now, Adam is going to use that information to destroy Abbott Communications during its second launch. He wants to humiliate Billy (Jason Thompson) and ruin his career before it even gets off the ground.

Doesn't Adam realize his plan will hurt Sally, also?

Some fans of The Young and the Restless wonder why Adam is orchestrating a plan that will ultimately hurt Sally (Courtney Hope) as well as Billy. Sally is the CEO of Abbott Communications. If Adam does manage to ruin the company, then Billy's career isn't the only one that will go up in smoke. Sally's career will be destroyed as well.

What in the world is Adam thinking? He used to love Sally, and he still cares about her, even though they aren't together anymore. They even suffered through the pain of losing a child together. That loss alone is a bond they will always share. Doesn't he remember the tongue-lashing she gave him when she kept trying to get him to admit that he cheated on her with Chelsea (Melissa Claire Egan)? He continued to deny it, and that dishonesty is what wrecked their relationship.

Thankfully, Sally is one of the most outspoken women on Y&R. She is never afraid to speak her mind, so let's hope she gives Adam hell -- major hell -- when she eventually discovers that he's the one who caused the ruination of Abbott Communications.

Adam doesn't have all the facts regarding Jill's investment

Clearly, Adam doesn't know how Billy's mind works. He thinks Billy went "groveling" to Jill to fund Abbott Communications. But Billy has way too much pride to do that. Since she sold Chancellor Industries to Victor, Billy has been so angry at her that he can't even carry on a civil conversation with her. So, what makes Adam think that Billy asked Jill to invest in the company?

Adam doesn't know that Sally was the one who reached out to Jill through video chat (behind Billy's back) and asked Jill to invest in the company. Jill even stressed to Sally that she did not want Billy to know she is the primary investor.

Adam was reaching such strides this past summer, when he was a caring brother to Victoria (Amelia Heinle) and supported her during Cole's (J. Eddie Peck) illness and eventual death. He took that spontaneous trip to France to warn the other Newmans that Cane (Billy Flynn) was buying real estate in Genoa City. Now, the Y&R writers are turning Adam back into the conniving reptile he used to be. It might make more sense if Sally weren't involved with Abbott Communications. But once she gets wind of his actions, she will unleash the kind of fury on him that only Sally Spectra knows how to unleash -- and God help Adam when that happens.
