On The Young and the Restless, Phyllis caught a bug but couldn’t catch a murderer, Kyle struck out twice, and Abby could finally choose shoes to go with her wedding dress.

Second thoughts on the second date

Billy managed to have a second date with Sally, and this time he got to tell all his best dad jokes. While others are reminiscing for the 13,000th episode coming up, Billy and Sally did their walk down memory lane by telling each other their most embarrassing moments.

I’m still on the fence about these two, which is better than last week when I was dead-set against them as a couple. But when they’re not just complaining about their exes, they’re both fairly funny. And really, we haven’t seen Billy have that big of a smile in a really long time. So maybe…mayyyyybe…Sally and Billy is a good thing? Just like the theme of their date night, their couple's name could be Silly.

So Billy walked Sally to her door again, but the date ended on a meh note. He got a message from his mom reminding him that the clock was ticking on him fixing Chancellor. What is the problem anyway? Jill gave Billy her voting rights, so she trusted him the most. And since then, he hasn’t actually screwed up.

Chance is a moron on a good day, and he has barely any experience He quit because he couldn’t be co-CEO. So what? He wasn’t qualified and demanding it was taking nepotism a little too seriously. Lily was going to undermine and fire Billy, so Billy booted her first. I’m not sure how Lily could do that, as she didn’t have Jill’s voting rights, but regardless, she needed to be in charge and couldn’t share the title. Except Billy now claims that they were awesome together. Until that day they argued about a press release, things didn’t seem that bad. Or were they, and I just don’t remember? Seems like so long ago now.

Regardless, I’m still lost on how all these people are acting like they’re entitled to the Iron Throne. You can’t just say you’re taking a company, and they have to hand it over. Remember when Jack convinced John to take Jabot public and then lost the company?

Exes and Uh-ohs

Kyle and Claire suddenly became this adult couple I didn’t realize they were. She always acts so girlish and naive when it comes to relationships, and she’s got zero experience. Kyle’s been married, divorced, been with other men’s wives, and basically is attracted to strong, independent women who would eat Claire for breakfast. So for them to all of a sudden be serious was a bit of a shock to the system.

And by serious, I mean Claire was ready for her and Kyle to have sex. Summer, however, was not ready for them to be whooping it up in her old bed. I’m still not sure what was up with that, but part of me thought it was ridiculously rude, and the other part was like yeah, maybe she’s onto something there, save Claire from Kyle, please. But Summer had some real jealousy going on. Is that just Summer being Summer and not wanting others to be happy? Or is it more specific and she doesn’t want Kyle to be happy with Claire?

Whatever it was that she was feeling was enough for her not to be able to hide it in front of her boyfriend. Chance asked Summer if they had a future after he arrested her brother for murder, and she said yes. But then Kyle and Claire walked by, and she couldn’t help but get noticeably grumpy again. I was rooting for Summer and Chance until I realized he was a complete idiot, but for a little while there, she'd tricked me into thinking she had grown up.

That night when she wrecked the mood for Kyle and Claire, she had spent time with Harrison and he said that he missed her living there. Summer said that’s what phones are for, buddy, and blew him off. So why the sudden concern about what Kyle’s doing? Didn’t add up, but what does these days.

The murder mystery brings more questions

Phyllis can’t get anyone to listen to her. Except, the more that Christine thinks about it, the more she thinks Sharon’s behavior is odd. But even Daniel is dismissing that theory at this point, and you’d think he, out of everyone, would be looking for anything to help him.

How is Sharon holding it together? Am I the only one disappointed that Heather hasn’t kept her promise and been around every minute of every hour of every day to remind Sharon what she did?

If Phyllis didn’t annoy Christine so much (and vice versa), she might actually have a chance at getting her to dig deeper into Sharon's connection to the murder.

But all week, Phyllis kept saying she had a plan to get Sharon to confess, but what was it? Was the big idea just staring Sharon down at the funeral? Phyllis has already been in her face and accusing her of murder a few times. I thought she had something new.

I guess Phyllis’ subliminal messaging worked, though. Sharon ran out of the funeral and out into the street. Didn’t Nick and Faith wonder where she went? That was the perfect time to tell Nick that Sharon had a meltdown and ran away.

Speaking of the funeral, why would they have one if Lucy wasn’t there? Okay, so Daniel said they’d have a celebration of life when Lucy got back home, but why have the funeral without her?

And yet another headscratcher at the service was Chance — shocking, I know. He pouted that people were staring at him. He was the arresting officer, yet claimed to be there for Summer “and, believe it or not, Daniel.” I choose "not." How is it that you’re there to support Daniel if you believe he murdered Heather, Chance? Please, make sense just one time.

Chance insisted that he had no say in the investigation that he led and that once the D.A. “got wind of it” that there was evidence in the apartment, he was ordered to arrest Daniel. Come on. Really? How did the D.A. “catch wind of it,” Chance?

As always, Chance got more brilliant by the minute. Summer spoke on behalf of all of us and told him the evidence was planted. Then Chance said, and I’ll quote, “Planted or not, it was there.” Say what now?! So, he does know it was planted? Or he doesn’t know what planted means? I’m confused.

And that’s when Summer mic-dropped, “So you guys don’t care if evidence was planted or not?” Finally!! A logical question that deserved an intelligent answer. It was Chance’s big moment to shine, so he hit her with this one: He saw the evidence with his own eyes. In Daniel’s apartment. Planted or not, Chance saw it. So in Chance’s world (and the D.A.’s), it doesn’t matter how the evidence got there, as long as they saw it. With their own eyes.

It can’t be that he’s just this ignorant. It can’t. But there are still options to make this make sense, though it still takes some mental gymnastics to think about. One, maybe Chance did it. Two, maybe Alan is really his psycho twin Martin, and he did it. Three, we’re just stuck in Sharon’s nightmare, and, like dreams, nothing makes sense.

Chance cannot be this dumb, honestly. But then again, everyone in town agrees with him, so maybe he really is the brilliant detective that Daniel thinks he is.

The best part of all of that frustration was when Phyllis finally had enough of the people around her and just got drunk at the bar. Serve it up, we need one, too.

The ranch house

With the 13,000th episode of Y&R coming up next Wednesday, part of the celebration included Victor surprising Nikki (and us) with a newly rebuilt version of the original ranch house.

A little nostalgia goes a long way, so the house reveal was a good segue into some flashbacks of memorable times Nikki and Victor had in the house. Victor looked like the portrait in his office — but I’d forgotten he had all those different accents over the years.

And, of course, Victor announced the new replica-ranch house was also to be the venue for Abby and Devon’s wedding.

And that other mansion on the property? Adam’s thinking of moving in, which could change Chelsea’s mind on reuniting, I suppose. That would be a great place for Connor to grow up. Except, Sharon would be a neighbor. Which makes me wonder why no one has mentioned the original house didn’t just burn down, it was arson.

When Sharon was off her meds the last time, she set the house on fire. Surely someone (Nick?) would remember this while reminiscing in the house about its history and what happened. They even flashbacked to Nikki and Victor walking through the ashes. Come on, people, give credit where it’s due, and remember what Sharon is like when she’s not medicated!

All the people who think Phyllis’ theory is a stretch and claim that Sharon isn’t capable of such things will be at the wedding. Will one of them remember, though?

By the looks of scenes from next week, something goes down at the wedding. By then, Nick is already wondering about Sharon’s mental state again. And you can bet Cameron returns. Maybe Sharon will spot the house next door that she never noticed being built and do a little walk down memory lane herself. Oooh or maybe Heather will come back and haunt her in the halls and cause Sharon to have an outburst in front of everyone. Whatever it is, we need some movement on this storyline.

Assuming Sharon’s at the wedding, that is — which seems likely since she insisted on going to Heather’s funeral, even when Daniel asked her not to. Maybe Abby or Devon will suggest Sharon sit out their wedding, and she’ll go stand with them at the altar or something. Or maybe she’s just Nick’s plus one.

By the way, didn’t Alan move to Genoa City to be with Traci? Why the hesitancy to move into the mansion? He was so oddly blown away by the sight of it when they arrived, even though he’d been there before. Are we sure he’s not Martin? If so, was he afraid of Ashley coming home and recognizing him?

When they had first come to town, Traci took Alan for lunch at the GCAC and pointed out notable people, like “That’s the great Victor Newman, and he’s having lunch with Michael Baldwin, who was a murderer, but we don’t talk about that. And at that table is my brother and his wife, and they’re about to pretend to fight in public.”

And then Sharon came in looking all out of sorts but Traci stopped her from walking by and introduced Sharon and Alan. He seemed unusually keen on talking to her, and even said he wanted to interview Sharon for his book. Why? He knew nothing about her. Or did he?

I think we might need to keep an eye on this guy. I think he’s Martin, and if so, we need to fill in the blanks of when Sharon got dizzy and woke up on Heather’s couch. Someone was there, and an unknown psycho was in town — it might be a stretch, but it’s possible.

Speaking of Diane and Jack, seems they were trying to play us after all. In that call Diane made to someone we couldn't see or hear, she said that things weren’t going as they planned — it had to be Jack, no one else in town is talking to her.

Amy Lewis is just hanging out until Nate decides whether or not to track down (or pay for a P.I.?) his new half-brother Damian. There is literally no momentum in this storyline...yet.

Billy tried to make up with Lily but she's not ready for playing nicely in anyone's sandbox. She couldn't even promise not to act up at Devon's wedding.

With the 13,000th episode on Wednesday, it’ll be a ratings bump for sure, so amid the wedding, flashbacks, and memories of our favorite show, here’s hoping for some jaw-dropping moments, too.

Until next time!
