On The Young and the Restless, Phyllis is finding herself in a position she’s been in before, but this time, she seems to be lacking the tools to deal with it — no one in Genoa City is paying attention.
Phyllis on The Young and the Restless

Phyllis Summer (Michelle Stafford) seems to be out of her wheelhouse. After her experience of being kidnapped with Sharon Newman (Sharon Case) by Martin Laurent (Christopher Cousins), Phyllis is traumatized.
Phyllis, Sharon, and Traci Abbott (Beth Maitland) were all victims of Martin’s scheme and are all struggling to get answers that will make it all make sense. Between the trauma of nearly dying while abducted and getting no real explanation of how they were picked as victims, Phyllis can’t seem to move forward.
Phyllis had already been struggling last year. The shocking murder of her daughter-in-law Heather (Vail Bloom) didn’t give Phyllis much room to grieve as she supported her family through the crisis. While intent on proving that it was Sharon who was behind the murder, Phyllis found out who her true friends were — and came up short.
Too many close calls for comfort

During her vigilante mission to condemn Sharon for framing Daniel, Phyllis was almost killed when she was run off the road by Aunt Jordan (Colleen Zenk) in an attempt to make Sharon look even more guilty. Phyllis survived, but when she woke from her coma, she was betrayed by her best friend, Michael Baldwin (Christian LeBlanc). She thought she was doing an amazing job at Chancellor and at being the only friend Billy had when he needed one, only to be fired by him when she needed him and her job the most.
By the time Phyllis and Sharon were kidnapped by Martin for his psychological experiment to turn their vicious, contemptuous relationship into something healthy, Phyllis felt more than alone. She had gotten Billy (Jason Thompson) to agree to hire her and Daniel at his new company, but her son was clear he had a lack of confidence in either of them. While Billy needed Phyllis’ help, he treated her with a lack of care (or even respect). Nick (Joshua Morrow) gave her the time of day, but he had also been TeamSharon for months. Regardless of whether they were the ones who ultimately saved them, Billy’s affection is directed at Sally (Courtney Hope), and Nick is on a trip to London with Sharon.
Phyllis has spent decades being the strong one (and forceful, overbearing, outspoken, and just loud in general) and has made it clear that Sharon was the weak one, who was always a victim. Now, the roles seem reversed.

Sharon has emerged from her traumas during the same time stronger and healthier, determined to start living her best life. Meanwhile, Phyllis is crumbling. She’s not used to the feelings she’s experiencing and seems to be floundering to keep her head above water. Will anyone notice before Phyllis sinks? Or will Sharon be the one to throw Phyllis a lifeline?
