The Young and the Restless fans weren't always lucky enough to have streaming platform Paramount Plus and DVRs to record episodes while they were at school or at work. In fact, Ron Clark, the real-life teacher, who was the basis for the Matthew Perry 2006 movie, The Ron Clark Story, got himself suspended for trying to watch the show in real time!

The Young and the Restless, The Ron Clark Storyline

"First time I got suspended in the 8th grade, it really wasn't my fault," Clark explained in an Instagram reel. "I blame it on The Young and the Restless and Nikki [Melody Thomas Scott] and Victor [Eric Braeden] because during Thanksgiving break, I had been home and seen Young and Restless on Friday, and they left it on one of them cliffhangers.

"So, I wanted to see what was gonna happen on Monday," Clark continued. "I had this idea. I said to my friend Monica, 'You know what? They got that Lemon Tree Inn that's right beside Chocowinity Middle School, and Room 105 was always left unlocked. Everybody knew in the town that that room was never locked.

Clark went in to explain that after lunch that he and his pal Monica could sneak behind the school buses and run to the Lemon Tree Inn, go to room 105, watch the cliffhanger play out, and then head back to class with no one being the wiser. He theorized that Ms. Gautier, his next teacher, might not notice the absence. Monica was on board, and the problem was, so were a lot of other students, including Pam Beavers.

"It ends up to the point where ...there's 13 of us, and I'm like, 'Oh, my Lord, we're in it now.' So we run across behind the buses, and we get to the Lemon Tree Inn. Room 105 and open the room, go in, shut the door, and turn on the TV. And we're watching The Young and the Restless, laughing, and having a great time."

"We're all into it. Well, we happened to look out the window, and we saw the vice principal of the school in the parking lot talking to the managers of the hotel because Ms. Gautier had looked up and said, 'Wait a minute, half my class is missing.'"

Soon, school authorities and colleagues, including Clark's mother, began searching for the missing soap opera fans. The "Y&R 13" (as we'll dub them) ran off in different directions in an effort to avoid suspension. Their escape plan was in vain. "We all got suspended, but it wasn't our fault that time," he maintains today. "It was The Young and the Restless. They make that stuff too addicting, and I was curious about that cliffhanger."

To this day, Clark holds Y&R's top supercouple accountable for his addiction. "Victor and Nikki, I got a bone to pick with y'all," he concluded.
