The Young and the Restless viewers mourned the loss of Phillip "Chance" Chancellor IV when the character died in France last summer. Jack announced that Jill and Nina would be devastated! While we saw some of Jill's reaction to Chance's death, viewers haven't seen Nina's response. That is about to likely change now that Nina's coming home for Danny and Cricket's wedding.
The Young and the Restless, Nina V. Cane

Cast spoke with Soap Opera Digest about her return to the show. Sure, she's coming back because Nina is besties with the bride. But viewers couldn't help but wonder if the Daytime Emmy-winning Cast would be given a moment in which Nina would be able to lay into Cane (Billy Flynn) for his indirect role in her son's death.
Cast, who's based in Nashville, said that she learned of Chance's passing from a waiter when she was out dining. "I was at a steak joint in Nashville, and he goes, ‘Oh, they killed your son.’ I said, ‘No, of course they didn’t. He’s fine.’ He goes, ‘No, they really did.’ And so I had to look it up!”
The actress did some research, and when she learned that the reports of Chance's death were true, she confessed to being "just floored." Upon hearing that Nina was coming to Genoa City for Cricket (Lauralee Bell) and Danny's (Michael Damian) wedding, Cast had hoped that the show would address Nina and Cane being in the same city.
"Luckily, they did a really nice job of addressing it,” a relieved Cast shared. "And I'm happy for the people who care about this to see these scenes because I think they were written and delivered by all with the care that they deserved. I don’t think Nina could leave town without having her say."
Taking a Chance

Sadly, Chance's passing marked almost the entire end of the Chancellor lineage. There is one family member who is still alive, however. Chance's father, Phillip Chancellor III (Thom Bierdz), is living in Australia. The character died on-screen in 1989 after suffering injuries he sustained while driving drunk.
In 2009, it was revealed that Phillip had faked his death because he was feeling too much pressure. He returned to Genoa City to let his loved ones, including his mother Jill (Jess Walton), surrogate grandmother Katherine (Jeanne Cooper), and Nina, know that he was alive and well. Why had Phillip faked his death on The Young and the Restless? It turns out that despite fathering a child with Nina and being in love with Cricket, Phillip was gay. He created an elaborate ruse, faking his trip to that great soap opera in the sky so that he could move to Australia and live there as a gay man.
