The Young and the Restless star Eric Braeden is coming up on 46 years as Victor Newman next February. The actor is beloved as Genoa City's top mogul by fans all over the world. Speaking of "worldwide," there was a rumor going around on the World Wide Web speculating that the Daytime Emmy winner might be retiring soon. The actor clarified the validity of that post on his personal Facebook page.
The Young and the Restless, Simply Not True
Braeden responded to the speculation that he'd be retiring from the show with three simple words (and three exclamation points !!!): "SIMPLY NOT TRUE!!!" Braeden posted his response along with a photograph of himself and Y&R pals Courtney Hope (Sally), Michelle Stafford (Phyllis), Tracey Bregman (Lauren), and Christian LeBlanc (Michael).
As fans of the actor know, Braeden joined Y&R in 1980 in what was supposed to be the short-term role of Victor Newman. Victor had discovered this his wife, Julia (Meg Bennett), was having an affair with a man named Michael Scott (Nick Benedict). Victor got his revenge by imprisoning Michael in the basement of the Newman Ranch. (Victor would later use the same basement to confine Jordan, played by Colleen Zenk.) He fed his prisoner dead rats to keep him alive. Victor's revenge on Michael could best be described as "ruthless!"
Tragedy struck after Michael escaped, and Julia, pregnant with Victor's child, was caught in the fray. She miscarried Victor's child, and she left town.
Head writer and Y&R creator William J. Bell extended Braeden's stay. He fleshed out the character by revealing Victor's backstory. Victor was born Christian Miller to Cora (Dorothy McGuire) and Albert Miller. Albert had walked out on the family, leaving Cora behind to raise Victor and his brother, Matt (Robert Parucha).
Cora could not afford to keep both sons financially, so she left Christian at an orphanage on Christmas Eve. He grew up, determined to create financial wealth so he'd never have to worry about money again. Christian created that economic empire and changed his name to "Victor Newman," becoming a "new man" in the process.
Victor and Nikki Newman

Years later, Nikki (Melody Thomas Scott) located Cora and brought her to Genoa City, hoping to facilitate a happy reunion. Victor, however, blasted his mother for leaving him at the orphanage. He told her that he had waited for her to come back for him, and she never did.
Victor and Cora reconciled before her death. His reunion with Albert (George Kennedy) was less loving. Albert was unaware that "Christian" had become Victor and had incredible wealth.
Today, Victor remains at the top of his game on The Young and the Restless, vanquishing foes like Cane (Billy Flynn) and Matt Clark (Roger Howarth)!
