The character had been involved with and was married to Greg Foster (the late Wings Hauser) before being paired with Nikki's one true pairing, Victor Newman, a played by Eric Braeden, who joined the show in 1980.Nikki and Victor were wed for the first time in 1984, but five short years later, the couple was divorce. They never truly fell out of each other's lives as they shared not only two two children, Victoria (Amelia Heinle) and Nicholas (Joshua Morrow), together, but also an enduring love. Nikki was shot by deranged Veronica (Candice Daly), who had called herself Sarah after nabbing a job as Nikki's maid. To fulfill her dying wish to leave this mortal plane as Mrs. Victor Newman, Victor convinced his wife, Diane, to get a divorce so that he could fulfill Nikki's last wish. The plan was for Victor to return to Diane and remarry her after Nikki's death. Plot twist: after Victor divorced Diane and married Nikki, his bride survived! It was somehow just a given that she and Victor would remain married. Diane contested the divorce, delaying Victor and Nikki's future together.
