The Young and the Restless stars Melody Thomas Scott, who plays Nikki, and Peter Bergman, who plays Jack, were in Canada recently, doing an appearance on a talk show. There, Thomas Scott recalled a pivotal time in Y&R's history and what role she played in helping the show strike gold! The Young and the Restless, finding Jack Abbott View this post on Instagram Instagram PostThe year was 1989, and Terry Lester had exited his role as Jack Abbott. After nearly a decade of scheming, seducing, and shenanigans, the actor left Y&R as Jack flew off in a plane, away from Genoa City. The show was attempting to recast the part, so that a new actor could start playing out Jack's dynamics with all the important people in his life. Recently, Thomas Scott and Bergman were in Canada doing some publicity. They appeared on The Social, a talk show on CTV. "Soap legends Melody Thomas Scott and Peter Bergman stopped by to dish on what makes the perfect soap-opera plot + spilled this little fun fact that blew our minds," posted The Social's social media account on Instagram. "I was a huge All My Children fan," Thomas Scott told The Social, referring to the show on which Bergman played nice guy Dr. Cliff Warner for a decade. "I learned that they had let him go, and I thought they were insane."Jack twistNikki and Jack have gotten together many times, but her heart belongs to Victor on The Young and the Restless | Image: JPITying in the irony of them being in Canada, Bergman interjected that his co-star had learned about the soap news that rocked Pine Valley while she was on a trip to Toronto! "My husband [Edward J. Scott] was here," Thomas Scott recalls. "[He] was producing the show at the time, and I said, 'This is your next Jack Abbott,' because we were desperately trying to find a replacement for Terry Lester, and I just knew even though his character [Cliff] on All My Children was nothing like Jack Abbott, I just knew he could do such a great job and I was right!" With a delightful smile, Thomas Scott says with a lilt in her voice, "I like being right!"Bergman joined The Young and the Restless in late 1989, and he was thrust into the forefront of the show's storylines. One of Jack's first moves to try to win back Jabot Cosmetics from Victor Newman (Eric Braeden), who'd taken control of the company by gobbling up the majority of its stock. Jack managed to break up Nikki and her beau, Jim Grainger (John O'Hurley), Cricket's (Lauralee Bell) dad, so that he could swoop in, marry Nikki himself, and then use her as a bargaining chip to get Jabot back. What Jack didn't count on was falling for Nikki for real! Catch all-new episodes of The Young and the Restless weekdays on CBS and Paramount Plus
