Rumors question St. John's future with Y&R

There are unconfirmed reports that Kristoff St. John (Neil Winters) will soon be exiting The Young and the Restless. A network exec, however, has denied that the actor is leaving.

Rumblings that something might be afoot started when a backstage source revealed that the network had not yet approached St. John about renewing his contract. Typically a network will makes its first overture a few months before the expiration of a star's contract. That allows for back and forth negotiating and, if necessary, the ability to alter a storyline. St. John's contract, however, expires at the end of the month.

So is St. John really seeing his 15-year run with the CBS come to an end?

"That is a rumor that I am unaware of," Y&R executive producer/head writer Jack Smith said in an interview with Soap Opera Digest. Requests by Soap Central for Smith to elaborate went unreturned due to the holiday.

St. John joined the cast of The Young and the Restless in January 1991, following a run on the NBC soap Generations. His work on Y&R garnered him an Outstanding Young Actor Daytime Emmy in 1992. He was nominated in the same category in 1993 and went on to receive two Outstanding Supporting Actor nominations in 1999 and 2000. In addition to his Daytime Emmy, St. John has been honored with six NAACP Image Awards.

In addition to his work in daytime television, St. John also recently appeared alongside a plethora of other soap stars in the movie, "Car Pool Guy."
