Judith Chapman dropped to recurring status

The Young and the Restless has trimmed Judith Chapman from its roster of contract players. The daytime vet will now appear in a recurring basis. Chapman took over the role of Gloria Fisher in 2005.

After six years with The Young and the Restless, the show has apparently run out of story ideas for Judith Chapman's (Gloria Fisher) alter ego. The actress has been taken off contract with the top-rated CBS soap.

CBS Soaps In Depth first reported on Chapman's new status with Y&R, and some fans feared that they would not longer see the actress mixing it up in Genoa City. However, as the magazine duly noted, being placed on recurring status is not that unusual in daytime. Many of Chapman's Y&R co-stars have had a very successful run on the show as recurring players.

Chapman is expected to remain a part of the Y&R cast, making appearances as dictated by storyline

Prior to joining Y&R, Chapman appeared on four other daytime drama series. She began her career as Natalie Hughes on As the World Turns in 1975, before moving to Ryan's Hope. From 1984 to 1986, she appeared as Ginny Webber on ABC's General Hospital. In 1990, Chapman had a short-term run as Anjelica Deveraux on Days of our Lives.

Chapman joined The Young and the Restless in January 2005, taking over the role of Gloria when primetime vet Joan Van Ark bowed out.
