Is Aaron Newton a figment of Y&R's imagination or is it an Adam recast?

The Young and the Restless has issued a casting call for a role that many believe to be Adam Newman. The role of Adam was most recently played by Michael Muhney, who received a Daytime Emmy nomination for his work in 2013.

The Young and the Restless has issued a casting call for a major role that has generated a great deal of buzz. Fans are now wondering if the role, currently being called "Aaron Newton," is a sign that the top-rated CBS soap is moving ahead with plans to recast the role of Adam Newman.

Other fans remain skeptical, arguing that the show wouldn't use such an obvious name for recasting such a prominent role.

Aaron is described as a "Caucasian Male. MID 30s to LATE 30s. A very handsome, very SEXY, very appealing, very charming LEADING MAN. Aaron is a smart businessman, loves women, and can out maneuver even the shrewdest."

The casting breakdown, first obtained by Soap Opera Digest, also notes that actors must be at least 5'10" and have no discernible accents.

In December 2013, Emmy-nominated actor Michael Muhney (Adam Newman) revealed that his four-and-a-half-year run as Adam would be coming to an end. At the time, the actor stated of his surprise firing that he "suspected it could happen, but [d]idn't think that it really would."

"It was explained to me that CBS and Sony want to give Adam a break for three to six months and then they'll bring him back with a different actor," Muhney said in an interview with Nelson Branco the day after he was told he'd been let go.

In January, Adam was written out in an on-screen car accident. The actor hired for Aaron wouldn't begin taping until May, with a first airdate sometime in late June or early July. The timeline would fit in well with the show's reported explanation.

Since Muhney's final tapedate, reports have surfaced that the actor was fired due to alleged improprieties at work. The actor's fanbase has also been vocal in wanting Y&R to rehire Muhney; they've raised money to have an airplane fly over the CBS studio on two different occasions to show their support.
