Find out why The Young and Restless alum Justin Hartley (ex-Adam Newman) recently returned to the set of the CBS soap opera and what he thinks of his replacement, Mark Grossman.

He's now a bona fide primetime star, but This Is Us actor Justin Hartley isn't done with soap operas. In fact, the Illinois native -- who starred as The Young and the Restless' Adam Newman from 2014 to 2016 and Passions' Fox Crane from 2002 to 2006 -- reveals he's working on a secret soap project.

Hartley was recently spotted back on the set of Y&R and explains to Soap Hub that his visit served a dual purpose: to see old friends and to work on a little sumthin-sumthin connected to the daytime community.

"Missy [Claire Egan (Chelsea)] and I are really good friends. I have a lot of friends over there. I went over there [to YR] to visit her and hang out for a bit and I brought a couple of writers with me," Hartley shares, adding that his secret soap project, "has to do with soap operas and daytime and that world."

The actor doesn't reveal any more about his soap opera surprise, but he does say that while he was visiting Y&R, he got the opportunity to watch his successor, Mark Grossman, in the role of Adam Newman.

"Mark was very gracious and let me watch him work, which was really cool. He's doing a great job," Hartley enthuses, adding that Grossman doesn't need any advice on playing Victor's son. "He's got his hands firmly on the wheel."
