The Young and the Restless' Sasha Calle (Lola Rosales) has acting talents of steel and just nabbed the role of Supergirl in the upcoming DC Comics superhero film The Flash.

From the moment actress Sasha Calle stepped onto the set of The Young and the Restless as Lola Rosales, soap viewers knew that she was destined for super things. But little did they know just how super: the Boston, MA-born Colombian actress has been chosen to play Supergirl in the upcoming DC Comics/Warner Bros. film The Flash.

Calle was chosen from a pool of more than 425 actresses who auditioned, becoming the first Latina Supergirl ever in the DC world.

"The talent pool was truly amazing and it was very hard to make a decision, but we finally found an actress who was destined to play this role," said The Flash director Andy Muschietti, who has a keen eye for discovering talent -- in particular all the young actors from the first It movie.

As part of her audition, Calle did a chemistry read with Ezra Miller, who played Barry Allen in Justice League and will reprise the role in The Flash. According to Deadline, Muschietti watched all of the auditions, and he, DC Films boss Walter Hamada, and the producers were all blown away by the effortless mix of toughness and vulnerability that Calle was able to bring to the role.

Lucky for Calle's fans, Muschietti recorded the moment that he told the actress that she had landed the iconic role. As can be seen in the video below, he pretended that her audition process was still ongoing and that he needed to ask her a few more questions before making his final decision. He then asked, "Can you fly?" Check out the video below for her response and the tear-filled moment when she realizes that it was his way of letting her know that she will be the world's next Supergirl.

Though just discovered by Hollywood insiders, Calle's talent has been obvious to the daytime world since she landed the role of Lola in 2018. She quickly won the hearts of viewers and was nominated last year in the Outstanding Young Performer in a Drama series category at the Daytime Emmy Awards.

Prior to her time on Y&R, Calle starred in the YouTube miniseries Socially Awkward and in several short films.

In a joint statement, Y&R's Executive Producer Anthony Morina and Co-Executive Producer/Head Writer Josh Griffith said, "On behalf of everyone at The Young and the Restless, we'd like to congratulate Sasha Calle on making history and being chosen to play the first Latina Supergirl. The role of Supergirl is a perfect fit for someone of Sasha’s immense talent and we wish her all the best as she takes on this groundbreaking role."

The Flash is currently scheduled to be released November 4, 2022.

This article was update to include a statement from Y&R execs.
