She attended Los Angeles City College and enrolled in acting classes, after which she joined a stage production of Look Back in Anger that featured Jack Nicholson, Dean Stockwell, and Robert Blake.

Over the course of her long career, Kellerman earned recognition at many awards shows. In addition to her 2015 Daytime Emmy nomination, she nabbed an Oscar nomination for Best Actress in a Supporting Role for her work on MASH, as well as nominations for a Golden Globe and the Kansas City Film Critics Circle award for Best Supporting Actress.

The actress married producer Jonathan D. Krane in 1980; he predeceased her. Kellerman is survived by her son, Jack Crane. Memorial information has yet to be announced.
