As previously reported by Soap Central, The Young and the Restless will celebrate its upcoming 50th season with a series of crossovers with The Bold and the Beautiful. Anxious fans had lots of questions, and now, most of those questions -- the who, when, and why -- have answers.
The Bold and the Beautiful's Sean Kanan (Deacon Sharpe) will return to Y&R, a soap he once called home, later this month. According to TV Insider, Kanan will share scenes with his former on-screen wife Melody Thomas Scott (Nikki Newman). The reason? Nikki wants to talk to Deacon about how he helped Diane Jenkins fake her death more than a decade ago.
Later, Melody Thomas Scott will travel all the way to Los Angeles to meet with Deacon. When she does, it will mark a mind-boggling first: even though Y&R and B&B have been doing crossovers since 1992, Scott has never appeared on The Bold and the Beautiful.
"I'm not sure why it took so long, but I'm so glad that if finally did happen," Scott told TV Insider. "It seems like almost everyone at Y&R has crossed over to B&B so I was shocked when I received the call that it was my turn! Being a part of the Bell Family legacy is something I never take for granted, so I was honored by [B&B's executive producer/head writer] Brad Bell's invitation."
Even though the actors hadn't worked together in quite some time, it seems like they picked up right where they'd left off.
"I loved working with him all those years ago and loved every minute of shooting our scenes together this time around," Scott said.
"We had a lot of fun working together," Kanan shared. "I really enjoy working with Melody; she's got a really fun sense of humor."
So why does Nikki head to Los Angeles? Is it for more information? Will she be involved in figuring out that Deacon is once again helping someone pretend to be dead? That remains to be seen, but Scott shares that she will run into "some familiar and not-so-familiar faces."
Rumor has is that Scott's Nikki will share scenes with former Y&R stars Don Diamont (Bill Spencer; ex-Brad Carlton, Y&R) and John McCook (Eric Forrester; ex-Lance Prentiss, Y&R). She'll also encounter her former Y&R daughter Heather Tom (Katie Logan; ex-Victoria Newman, Y&R).
There's no word on whether or not Deacon's across-state-lines trip is allowed under the terms of his parole. The good news is that the travel time from Los Angeles to Genoa City is only a few minutes. B&B and Y&R tape across the hall from one another at CBS' Television City lot.
The crossovers begin September 20, when Deacon arrives in Genoa City. The following week, Nikki pops up in Los Angeles.
