Victor saw Billy at the Athletic Club, and they verbally sparred, snidely predicting each other's failure. When Victor left, Phyllis joined Billy at the bar. Phyllis asked if Victor was looking for a fight. Billy explained that Victor was upset that Billy was running Abbott-Chancellor. Phyllis pointed out that Billy would need a prime executive to help him, and she suggested that Billy hire her.

Billy was suspicious of Phyllis' offer, but she made a pitch to him about why she was qualified for the job. Phyllis said she was talented, creative, experienced, and a self-made prodigy in the tech world. Billy knew that Phyllis had made up every word on the spot. He said it was good, and bringing her on board might not be a crazy idea.

Billy got Phyllis caught up on the situation with Victor plotting a takeover. Phyllis said she wasn't threatened by Victor, and she had no problem fighting dirty. Phyllis suggested that Billy rehire Daniel, pointing out that he had led a successful department at Chancellor and would be an asset to the company. Billy agreed that Lily had fired Daniel for personal reasons. Billy said he could see potential value in Daniel returning.

After Billy left, Nick joined Phyllis at the bar and said he had been watching her talk to Billy. Phyllis said she had only been asking for Daniel's job back. Nick warned Phyllis that Billy's days were numbered, but he wouldn't elaborate. He told Phyllis he didn't want to see her get caught in any fallout, but Phyllis said she could take care of herself.

At Society, Jack, Diane, Claire, and Kyle talked about Harrison. Diane recalled the similarities between Harrison and Kyle when he'd been Harrison's age. Audra messaged Kyle from outside Society's entrance. While Kyle stepped outside to talk to Audra, Jack warned Claire she was taking on a big task involving herself in their family drama.

Outside, Audra ripped into Kyle for ratting her out to Victor. Kyle smugly told Audra that Victor disliked it when people didn't take responsibility for their actions. Kyle said Audra would probably get fired for telling Nate that Victor was Glissade's secret investor.

Kyle returned to the table with Claire and his parents, but he was in a foul mood. Diane asked if they could talk. Kyle agreed, but he didn't want to discuss anything at Society. Diane and Kyle went to the park. Diane rehashed the mistakes she had made with Kyle, and she asked if he still resented her. Kyle said Diane couldn't make up for her mistakes by forcing them to live together, and he wanted to move out so he could breathe.

Kyle said that Diane smothered him. Diane said the last thing she wanted to do was push him away. Diane noted that Kyle's resentment was oversized, and she asked if something older and deeper was hurting him. Diane suggested family therapy, but Kyle got angrier. "More time with you? That would be like hell on earth," Kyle snapped. Just then, Victor interrupted. Victor said Kyle was right, and he told Diane to leave her son alone.

Diane told Victor that he was trying to involve himself in a private family matter and to mind his own business. "I respect Kyle, and you should do the same," Victor said. Diane accused Victor of using Kyle as he always had. After Diane stormed off, Victor advised Kyle not to care what his parents thought and to live his life however he wanted.

Back at Society, Jack told Claire he could empathize with Kyle's feelings about Diane. Jack said his mother had abandoned him, as well, and had returned to his life when Jack had been an adult. Jack said with time, patience, and understanding, there was forgiveness. Jack knew that Kyle could overcome his feelings like Jack had with his mom.

At Crimson Lights, Audra vented to Nate about her meeting with Victor. "He's an egotistical, insecure little bastard that can't be trusted and is out to prove that he doesn't need anyone's help," Audra said about Kyle. Nate warned Audra that Victor was notoriously ruthless and cunning and that she should always assume Victor was calculating his next move. "Victor lives in an immoral and ambiguous world with rules of his own. If you cross him, he'll throw you under the bus and hold a grudge forever," Nate said. Audra became slightly defensive, so Nate assured her she could handle herself against Victor and succeed at Glissade.

At home, Diane raged about Victor. Diane said that Victor had to be Glissade's mystery investor. "Now that Kyle's career is in Victor's hands, he has no choice but to listen," Diane said. She pointed out that her relationship with Kyle had deteriorated so much that they couldn't even enjoy one lunch together. "Every innocent comment I made was met with hostility, and I can't take it anymore," Diane said.

Claire found Kyle thinking while sitting on a park bench. Kyle asked Claire if she was disappointed that he'd blown up at his parents. Claire said she didn't expect the situation to be fixed in a day. "I won't put any pressure on you. Things are hard enough already," Claire said. Kyle told Claire that just seeing her made him breathe a little easier. "In fact, you make everything easier," Kyle said before kissing her.
