At her office at Newman Enterprises, Victoria told Nate she hoped he had gotten a good night of sleep because they had back-to-back meetings scheduled all day. Smiling, Nate replied that though he had had a good night, it had nothing to do with sleep. Victoria asked Nate to accompany her to one particular meeting involving a merger. Victoria acknowledged that the board of directors considered the deal too risky, so she would rather refer to it as an acquisition. Nate affirmed Victoria's strategy to stay ahead of the pack. Victoria expressed approval of Nate's aspiration to push ahead boldly without safety nets, comparing his strategies to hers.

Nate was flattered when Victoria assigned to him two meetings with high-profile companies, explaining that taking the lead would not be considered unusual for an interim COO. Mentioning that he had assumed Nick's position, Nate told Victoria that she would be making a "hell of a move." Victoria arrogantly replied, "I know, and I don't care." Nate told Victoria he had dug up information about the Babcock Company that he intended to use as leverage. Nate admitted it was intoxicating to wield the power to change the future of a company. Nate pulled Victoria close and noted that gazing into her eyes was equally intoxicating. The couple kissed passionately.

At Crimson Lights, Kyle approached Audra, acknowledging that it was her first day as CEO of Newman Media. Audra clarified that she was filling in for Nate while he was holding down Nick's position at Newman Enterprises. Noting that Kyle seemed to have misgivings about Victoria's decision to sideline Nick, Audra recalled that Nick had suffered emotional trauma and needed time to regroup. Kyle replied, "Let's just say I am very familiar with how the Newman family takes care of their own, and it doesn't always have a whole lot to do with love." Audra suggested that always coloring inside the lines never got anyone anywhere.

Kyle warned that with the Newman family, collateral damage was part of the game, as long as they got what they wanted. Audra recalled her dealings with the once-hardcore Tucker McCall, noting that nothing had ever gotten in his way until he'd had a change of heart, embraced "Zen," and become more focused while acquiring his desires. Kyle asked Audra if she was suggesting playing nice to get ahead of the line. Audra, clarifying that she had said nothing about playing nice, assured Kyle that the universe would reward him if he honed in on what he wanted.

Later, as Kyle and Audra strolled through Chancellor Park, Audra rambled on about the ideas she had for Newman Media. Audra explained that she had long sought to have a seat at the table and make decisions that could affect the running of a company. Kyle smiled and told Audra he was excited for her. Audra pledged to light up Newman Media for as long as she served as interim CEO.

Kyle suggested it might be a perfect time for him and Audra to live in the present. Audra told Kyle he should speak up if he had a request. Kyle noted that he and Audra did not have time to do what he had wanted. Audra gave her phone to Kyle, so he could input his phone number. Audra promised to call Kyle if she had free time later in the day. Before Kyle walked away, he leaned in close and said, "You'll call."

Nikki ran into Adam at Chancellor Park. Nikki told Adam she was very sorry for his loss. Adam thanked Nikki for her condolences, adding that he considered her sympathies disingenuous, considering Victor's feelings for Sally. Nikki reminded Adam that she was a parent who had experienced loss and was aware that his emptiness felt overwhelming. Adam blamed himself for the death of his little girl. Nikki reminded Adam that he had been forced to make an impossible choice.

Adam insisted that he was no hero like Nick. Nikki reminded Adam that he had saved Sally's life, adding, "And thank God you did." Adam replied, "God? God doesn't factor into this equation because any god that makes someone choose between mother and child isn't a god that I believe in." Nikki reminded Adam that his son needed him and that people cared about him. Adam shook his head and walked away.

After a box from Cameron's attorney arrived at Sharon's, Sharon told Nick it had freaked her out, noting that everything she had tried to move on from was front and center again. Sharon cried that she might never again feel settled while dealing with everything the maniac had left hanging over her. Sharon expressed fear that even beyond the grave, more boxes might arrive from a man she hated. Sharon told Nick that Cameron having left his company to her was his way of staying in her life. Sharon defiantly declared that she hoped Cameron was burning in hell.

Sharon admitted to Nick that she was still haunted by killing Cameron and watching him die. Nick told Sharon she had done what she'd had to do to save Faith. Sharon cried that she could not stop seeing Cameron everywhere, and she was angry that he still had control over her life. Sharon asked Nick how she could ever find peace. Nick assured Sharon that he would lend his support. Sharon placed her hands on the box sent by Cameron's attorney and told Nick she had an idea that would require him getting his hands dirty. Nick replied, "Whatever it takes."

Sharon placed Cameron's diary, his dog's collar, and other belongings into a bucket. Nick saturated the items with lighter fluid. Sharon lit a match and dropped it into the bucket. Fire consumed the items that had once belonged to Cameron. Sharon recalled all the harm Cameron had caused, including assaulting a Los Angeles woman. Sharon, admitting she felt guilt about having brought Cameron into their lives, shuddered when recalling that Faith might have been killed. Sharon cried that what Cameron had done would leave a mark. Nick reminded Sharon that she and Faith were not alone and should lean on the love from him, Mariah, Tessa, and Noah.

Nick suggested he and Sharon burn the contract Cameron had drawn up to transfer his company to her. Sharon noted that Kirsten Incorporated was a tech company with assets and capital. Sharon suggested using the assets to give back by perhaps selling it and donating the proceeds to charity. Sharon told Nick that by doing so, she could take back the power Cameron had over her, transforming his hate and fear into an opportunity to help people. Sharon recalled how Rey had wanted to make the right choices every day, which, she explained, had everything to do with love, just as Nick had mentioned.

Sharon recalled all the setbacks in her life she had overcome. Sharon declared that she had once again found the strength she had forgotten was within her. Sharon picked up the business contract and announced that it was time for a new direction and a new future that would likely surprise her and Nick, too. Sharon told Nick she was eager to share with Mariah and Tessa the lesson she had learned after her transformation from wanting to hide to trusting herself, following her instincts, and flourishing after making a dramatic comeback.

As Adam approached the bar at Society, he talked on the phone with a business associate about his strategy for McCall, stating that he would crush Newman Media. Victor tapped on Adam's shoulder and instructed him to end his phone call. Victor told Adam that Nikki was worried about Adam, and so was he. After they seated themselves at a table, Victor expressed his and Nikki's sympathy for Adam and Sally on the unimaginable loss of their child. Adam reminded Victor that the only time he had ever mentioned Sally's name, it was if it was a curse. Adam told his father that Sally never wanted to see him again, declaring that Victor had won in his endeavor to separate them. Adam noted that Nikki had advised him to focus on Connor and the people who loved him, adding that he was not a popular guy.

Victor urged Adam to focus his energies into building McCall into a powerhouse. Adam agreed, adding that he would first sever ties with anyone loyal to Tucker and then focus on infrastructure related to the entertainment and media divisions. Victor replied, "So, you're going to go after Newman?" Adam recalled that he had built Newman Media and wanted it back. Victor claimed that Adam wanted to recapture the days when he had worked with Sally at Newman Media. Victor warned that attempts to recapture his time with Sally and attacking Newman Media would be a mistake because the company was part of the Newman family portfolio. Adam replied, "Look, I'm your son. I'm not your puppet."

Adam told Victor that what he wanted and how to get it had never been clearer to him. Victor advised Adam to keep his emotions separate from his business decisions. Adam insisted he would run McCall the way he saw fit. Victor replied, "Always a smart aleck, right?" Victor threatened to withdraw sharing his business expertise with Adam. Adam replied, "So, are you threatening me now?" Victor made it clear that he was not Adam's enemy, adding that he was his son's biggest supporter, warning also that he should not be challenged.

As Nikki walked toward Victoria's office, she received a text message. After reading it, she exclaimed, "What on earth?" In her office, Victoria told Nate she was interested in growing the company's global real estate holdings, especially in the European Union. Victoria noted that they would have time to conduct in-depth research after her children moved to boarding school in the fall. Victoria told Nate they could utilize the corporate jet and spend some time as tourists. Victoria and Nate quickly put distance between them when Nikki entered. Nikki asked to speak to Victoria alone.

After Nate left, Nikki expressed displeasure that Nate would be meeting with Babcock alone. Victoria told her mom that unlike Nikki, Nate was prepared and had a great attitude. Nikki, angry that Victoria had dissolved Nick's support team, asked if she intended to keep Nick away from Newman Enterprises for good. Victoria claimed she had merely reassigned Nick's team until he returned. Nikki suggested that Nick's team could work with Nate while he temporarily served as acting COO.

Victoria said Nate did not need assistants because he was fully involved and hands-on. Nikki rolled her eyes and replied, "Oh, I have no doubt." Victoria insisted that Nick had too many distractions. Miffed, Nikki replied, "Wow! You have an answer for everything, but this doesn't feel like a business move. It feels personal. A way to strike out at your brother."

Victoria admitted to Nikki that Nick's team did not see Adam or McCall as threats. Nikki warned that as co-CEO, she regarded Victoria's attitude as aggressive and unnecessary. Victoria insisted she had made her logic clear. Recalling that Nick had warned Victoria about Nate, Nikki said, "This has nothing to do with logic. This is about Ashland."

Nikki told Victoria that deep down, she knew Nick's warnings about Nate were right, just as they had been about Ashland. Victoria, angry, replied, "How could you bring up Ashland?" Nikki explained that it seemed appropriate, given the circumstances.

Victoria cried that her mom and dad always threw Ashland's name at her whenever she did anything they disapproved of. Nikki explained that she wanted to understand why Victoria had forced Nick out, had fired his staff, and was preparing for an all-out war with Adam while Nate cheered her on. Victoria cried that Nate offered her the support she lacked from her own family. After Nikki mentioned Victor, Victoria said that if her father would listen without judging her, they could have a discussion. Nate entered to brief Victoria and Nikki about the meeting with Babcock. Nikki declined, stating that she had work to do.

After Nikki left, Victoria told Nate she would not be doing it right if she was "not pissing people off." Audra entered and said she wanted to share some updated directives based on Nate's plans for Newman Media. Victoria, smiling at Nate, replied, "Let's see what you've learned from your boss." Victoria and Nate praised Audra's work. Audra, addressing Victoria, said, "I plan to blow you away."

Nate thanked Audra for taking control of negotiations with Crawford Pictures. Victoria again praised Audra's work and thanked her. After Audra left, Nate said he could not have asked for a better acting CEO at Newman Media. Victoria told Nate that with Audra in charge at Newman Media, he and she could focus on making McCall nothing but misery for Adam.

Before Kyle entered Society, he took out his phone and glanced at his screensaver, a photo of him and Summer in happier days. Kyle then phoned an assistant named Gerard. Kyle requested that Gerard order a unique bouquet of flowers and diamond earrings be delivered to Audra Charles at the Athletic Club. Kyle instructed Gerard to write "From one overachiever to another. Thanks for showing me your moves." Kyle said his name should not appear on the card because Audra would know who had sent them.

Nikki approached Adam and Victor at Society. Adam coldly informed Nikki that his chat with Victor had just finished. After Adam left, Victor told Nikki that Adam was stuffing down his anger and grief. Victor expressed concern that Adam's misguided feelings and his intentions to take down Newman Media would backfire. Nikki said she was similarly worried about Victoria after Victoria had almost completely sidelined Nick and restructured his support team, and was preparing to do battle with Tucker McCall to suit Nate's desires. Nikki cried that Nate was feeding Victoria's sense of power, so she had shut out everyone else. Victor replied, "Oh, boy. Oh, boy. That means that Victoria and Adam are aiming for a head-on collision."

John gathers family and friends at an impromptu party (1992)

In the Abbott kitchen, John read the morning paper, and Mamie asked if she could get him anything else. He noticed Jack's car was gone, and he inquired whether she had any idea where his son had gone. She reported that she hadn't seen Jack, and she observed that John appeared to be at loose ends. John considered going into the office, but she scolded him for thinking about working on a holiday. He muttered that it was just another day for him.

Mamie reminded John that he'd felt the same way the year before. She recalled that he'd picked up the phone and made plans for an impromptu party, which had been a big success. John exclaimed that it was a great idea, and he agreed to do it again on one condition -- she had to stay out of the kitchen, since it wouldn't be a party unless she was part of it. John prepared to call Ashley to invite her and Victor.

Coincidentally, Ashley called at that moment, and John told her that Mamie had coerced him into throwing an impromptu party. Ashley mentioned that there was a personal matter she wanted to talk with him about. John acknowledged that Victor had just gotten out of the hospital, but he expected the party to be relaxing. Ashley promised to be there later.

At the Chancellor mansion, a clearly ill Esther recognized that Brock had wanted her to put together a picnic, but she felt awful. Brock felt her forehead and discovered that she was warm. He instructed her to forget about the picnic and ordered her to go to bed and rest. As she headed for the stairs, Esther passed by Rex, who had just returned from a run. Rex proclaimed that it was a beautiful day for a holiday. As Katherine entered the room, Rex added that there wasn't a cloud in the sky, and he suggested that Katherine throw a party.

Katherine glumly gazed out the window, and Rex assumed she was feeling down. She bemoaned that holidays were always "so empty," since they should be a time for the gathering of friends and family. She added that she'd woken up thinking about how close she and little Phillip had once been. She shared that she'd wanted the tot to spend the holiday there because it had been a long time since she'd seen him, but Nina had already made plans.

Katherine figured that she had two wonderful gentlemen to spend the day with, so she had no right to complain. Brock asked what she felt like doing, and she decided to relax with a good book that she was in the middle of reading. She grabbed the book and headed upstairs. Rex sympathized that Katherine didn't like holidays because they reminded her too much of the past. He contemplated going over to Nina's place to tell her how Katherine was feeling. Brock said he'd been thinking the same thing.

Later, John called Katherine and told her that he'd foolishly been sitting there alone, so he'd decided to have a party. He wanted her and Rex to be there, and she halfheartedly replied that it was a lovely invitation. John heard the malaise in her voice and guessed it was because it was a holiday, and he protested that it wasn't right. He encouraged her to pass the word to her friends, since they'd all have a great time.

A hesitant Katherine said it was nice of John to include them, but before she could decline the invitation, Rex grabbed the phone and told John that John could count them in. After he hung up, Rex recognized that he might have upset Katherine, but he thought it would do her good to get out. She doubted she would be pleasant company. He wrapped his arms around her and kissed her cheek. He chirped that he had to run an errand, but he'd be back.

At home, Nina was packing a picnic basket when the doorbell rang. She assumed it was Ryan, and she excitedly ran to the door. She was surprised to see Rex there, and they hugged. She explained that she didn't have a lot of time because she was going on a picnic with her boyfriend. Rex invited them both to the party. Nina wondered if Katherine had sent him, but Rex confirmed that his wife didn't know he was there.

Rex cited what it would mean to Katherine to spend some time with Phillip that day, since she considered the boy to be her grandson. Nina reiterated that she had plans. Rex revealed that the party was at the Abbotts', and Nina was shocked that she was welcome to attend. Rex implored her to get Phillip and go, but Nina balked because her existing plans were important to her. Rex stressed that it would mean the world to Katherine to spend a little time with Phillip, and he urged Nina to think about it.

Later, the doorbell rang, and Nina anxiously checked her appearance in the mirror before greeting Ryan. They kissed and said they'd missed one another. She informed him that they'd been invited to a party; she'd declined, but she thought that maybe he'd like to go. Nina was sure that people Ryan worked with would be at the event, so it might be good for him to spend time with them. He acknowledged that he didn't know John well, but he would like to.

Ryan eagerly asked if the Newmans would be at the party, but Nina pointed out that Victor might still be in the hospital. Ryan revealed that Victor had been released a couple of days earlier, but Nina doubted the mogul would go to a big pool party. Ryan admitted he was tempted to go, since he'd heard a lot about John Abbott. Nina exclaimed that it could do wonders for Ryan's career. He wished he knew who else would be there. She suggested that they go for a while, since Katherine would be thrilled to see Phillip, and they all might have a good time.

Dru reviewed a to-do list as she asked someone over the phone if everything would be ready, including a whirlpool tub, king-size bed, and romantic dinner table on the terrace. She was pleased to hear there would be a strolling violinist, and she inquired about her plans for massages and a sailboat. Dru anticipated that she and Neil would have a fabulous time, and she smiled as she hung up. She envisioned how surprised Neil would be when he saw what she'd arranged for them.

Dru called Alan Goodman to discuss the centerfold he wanted her to do. She assured him that she wasn't having second thoughts, but she wanted to schedule test shots within the next few days because she had something else lined up. She thanked him and hung up. "Neil Winters, there will definitely be fireworks this Fourth of July," she purred.

Nathan tracked down Neil at work and asked what Neil was doing at the office on a holiday. Neil reasoned that it was the only quiet time around there. Nathan groaned that playing a masquerade to keep Olivia from knowing how worried he was about the risks of her having a baby was the hardest thing he'd ever had to do. Neil warned that if Nathan told Olivia, it would take all the joy out of her pregnancy. Neil implored Nathan to concentrate on how happy Olivia was and the positive aspects of having a child.

Nathan admitted that he was scared something would happen to Olivia, who appeared in the doorway. She asked if she was interrupting something, noting the suspicious looks on the men's faces. Neil claimed that they'd been cooking up a surprise for her. Nathan remarked that Olivia was the one full of surprises, and he questioned how she'd gotten sprung from the hospital. She mentioned that she'd tried to call Nathan to tell him she wasn't on duty that day, since she'd called in a favor.

Olivia suggested that she and Nathan should go on a picnic with Neil and Dru. She added that she'd dropped by to invite Neil, and she wondered what Nathan was doing there. Neil fibbed that he'd asked Nathan to stop by to find a way to get her off the duty roster so they could plan a picnic. They decided to go to the lake, and Olivia warned them against making any wisecracks about her fitting into her bikini. Nathan cooed that she had the best excuse in the world. He pulled her into a hug and declared his love, but he shot Neil a worried look over her shoulder.

Dru arrived, and Nathan invited her to be part of their day. Mamie called Neil and reprimanded him for being in the office on a holiday. Mamie sternly told him that it wasn't a day to be working, and she invited him and Dru to the party at the Abbott house. Neil informed her that they were trying to figure out their plans for the day with Olivia and Nathan, but they might see Mamie later. Neil relayed that there was a big Abbott party. Dru suggested that they go for a while, but she and Neil would have to leave early because she'd made plans. Neil questioned what they were, but she teased him for being nosy and promised to tell him when the time was right.

Between kisses, Jill seductively asked Blake what his favorite sandwich was -- roast beef, corned beef, or hot pastrami. He replied that it was definitely hot pastrami, and they kissed again. She suggested they skip the main course and go right to dessert, and he called her a wicked woman. Jill figured a man like him loved a wicked woman, but Blake wondered if her real interest was with him or with John. "John who?" she asked. Blake was pleased with her reply, and he retrieved a bottle of Champagne.

The phone rang, and Blake indicated that he wasn't there if it was a business call. Jill answered the call, and John invited her to his get-together if she had no other plans. Jill said she'd try to make it, and John replied that he looked forward to seeing her. Jill informed Blake that she'd forwarded her calls there, and he handed her a glass of Champagne and assumed from her reaction to the call that it had been John. Jill inquired whether Blake would like to accompany her to a party, and he flirtatiously asked if there would be hot pastrami there. She murmured that there might even be fireworks. He said he wouldn't miss it for anything in the entire world, and they resumed kissing.

Traci dressed baby Colleen, excited to show off her pretty girl at "Grandpa's big party." Traci fawned over Colleen as Brad entered and asked what was going on. Traci explained that she was getting their daughter dressed, since her dad was having a party that day. Brad questioned whether he was invited, and Traci told him it was silly to ask. "Is it?" he testily inquired, and he griped that he wouldn't have known about the party if he'd gotten home five minutes later.

Traci swore that she'd planned to leave Brad a note, and she queried why he was so upset. Brad asserted that he had a right to be, since her father was throwing a party, and Brad hadn't been told about it. Traci explained that she'd just found out about it, since her dad had been feeling lonely and had decided at the last minute to fill the house with people. Brad grumbled that she could have called him at the office. Traci reasoned that he wouldn't have gone to work on a holiday if it hadn't been important, and she hadn't wanted to bother him over a party. Brad accused her of being angry that he'd gone to the office.

Traci calmly pointed out that Brad wouldn't have gone to work if it hadn't been absolutely necessary. She figured that he would have spent time with her and their daughter once he'd finished work, but he snapped that neither she nor Colleen would have been there. Traci reiterated that she'd just found out about the party, and she'd had no way of knowing how long he'd be at the office. She added that he was usually gone all day, and she refused to waste a beautiful day. Traci swore that she'd never force Brad to go to a family gathering, and she welcomed him to decide what he wanted to do. He replied that he'd love to go with her.

Ashley gazed at the elaborate spread of food by the Abbott pool. John spotted Ashley and joined her. He wished her a happy holiday and gushed that it was good to see her. She responded that it was nice to be wanted. He proclaimed that a celebration was just what he needed, since he hadn't been looking forward to a day by himself. John recalled the wild pool parties his kids had enjoyed, and Ashley remarked that the house held a lot of memories. She wistfully added that there was no place she'd rather be. John asked where Victor was.

John assumed Victor was parking the car, and the guests began to arrive. Katherine commented that Ashley looked wonderful, and John and Brock shook hands. John was glad Gina had been able to get away from the restaurant, and she shared that she'd given her staff the day off to celebrate.

John noticed Ashley looking forlorn, and he guessed that Victor wasn't there. She claimed that her husband hadn't felt up to it after getting out of the hospital, and she asked where Jack was. John had no idea, but he hoped Jack was with Nikki. Ashley highly doubted Jack was with Nikki. John sensed that Ashley needed to talk, but she said it would keep for later.

Carol arrived and wished everyone a happy holiday. John told Jill and Blake that he was glad they'd been able to make it, and she hoped John didn't mind that she'd invited Blake. John welcomed Blake, who complimented the place. John proudly stated that it had been his home for many years.

Katherine snatched a brownie out of Rex's hands and reminded him that he'd asked her to help him count calories. She crossed over to say hello to Jill, and she remarked that Jill was the last thing she'd expected to see there that day. Jill retorted that she was sorry to disappoint. As John stared jealously at Jill and Blake, Katherine remarked that Jill had made the day far more interesting with her handsome photographer friend.

John asked Rex how Katherine was doing. Rex lamented that she didn't really enjoy holidays and that she really missed young Phillip. Rex recounted that he'd tried to convince Nina to make an appearance, but Nina had had other plans. Rex predicted that it would be a rough day for his wife. Nina, Ryan, and Phillip walked in, and Phillip raced over to greet his "Grandma Kay." Cradling him in her arms, Katherine cooed that she loved him and missed him. Jill made a beeline for her grandson, and she glowered when Phillip enthused that it was neat that both his grandmas were there.

Ashley perked up when she saw Brad arrive with Traci and Colleen. Rex beamed as he watched Katherine play with Phillip. Rex commended Nina for making his wife a happy woman. Nina introduced Rex to Ryan, and John congratulated Ryan on his promotion. Ashley joined Traci, who stated that she'd just put Colleen down for a nap upstairs. Brad eyed Ashley, who gushed about what a proud aunt she was.

Nathan hovered over Olivia to make sure she didn't get too warm. She clucked that he seemed more nervous than when she'd first told him she was pregnant. Dru warned that Nathan would drive Olivia crazy, and she lectured that females had been having babies for a long time. Dru stepped away, and Neil followed her. Neil stated that he had something to tell Dru, but she insisted on telling him about her plans first.

Dru announced that she and Neil would leave the party early and head about 100 miles north to Crystal Lake for a long weekend together. She disclosed that she'd reserved a cabin in the woods with a stocked bar, fireplace, and huge whirlpool tub. She proposed they take off and get a jumpstart on the weekend. Neil agreed that it sounded great, but he'd already made travel plans for her to go on another promotional tour, visiting four cities in four days. He apologetically stated that he'd just found out that day, and she had to leave that night.

An irked Dru demanded to know if Neil would go with her, but he regretted that he had to stay in town for a marketing session that week. Dru questioned whether he would have gone with her on the weekend trip if she wasn't obligated to go on the promotional tour. He thought it would be more fun letting her guess, and he suggested that she try him another time. Dru initially rebuffed Neil's attempt to kiss her, but she eventually gave in.

John clinked his glass to get everyone's attention to join him in a holiday toast. He hoped his guests were having as wonderful a time as he was, and he thanked his dear friend Mamie for encouraging him to get family and friends together on a special holiday. Amidst applause, John thanked everybody for being there. Brock began to sing "America the Beautiful," and Gina joined him. The entire group stood up, placed their arms around one another, and finished the song together.

At home, Devon noted that Abby was giving serious consideration to moving into the Chancellor home. Abby admitted she would be content living anywhere as long as they were together, but she added that Dominic felt more at home at the Chancellor estate, since he'd spent most of his early life there.

Devon told Abby that Chance had said the mansion had been Katherine's pride and joy, and she would have hated to see it sitting empty. Abby agreed. Devon said Katherine would have loved knowing her grandson was growing up in a house that had meant so much to her, and it was another part of Katherine's legacy that Devon could keep alive. They agreed to move into the mansion.

At Society, Lily was astonished to see who Audra had been talking to. Audra confirmed it had been the head of Crawford Pictures, and she'd just signed an exclusive deal with them for Newman Media. Audra told Lily it was okay to be impressed, but Lily said she wasn't impressed, rather surprised that Nate would allow Audra to handle such an important deal, since he'd been so desperate to be in charge. Audra informed Lily that she was running Newman Media.

Lily said she'd always known Audra was a shark, but she hadn't thought Audra would turn her back on Nate so quickly. Audra explained that she'd been promoted on her own merit. Lily said she found that hard to believe. Nate arrived. Lily told Nate she'd heard his COO had sunk her fangs into his job, but that was what he got when he swam with a shark.

Nate informed Lily that he was temporarily filling in as COO for Nick in the parent company, and Audra was keeping things running at Newman Media for him. Lily said she understood; Audra was a place filler. Audra claimed she was more than that, as evidenced by the deal she'd just negotiated. Audra told Nate the deal was pretty much in the bag.

Lily asked Audra for a moment alone with Nate. Audra boasted that she had phone calls to make about her newly negotiated deal. She thanked Lily for firing her because she was flying high at Newman Media and was finally at the top of her game.

After Audra left, Lily asked how Nate was doing. He said things were good. Lily said she'd been worried about him since his breakup with Elena. Nate told her that he and Victoria were seeing each other. Lily was stunned and commented that he really was swimming with the sharks, but he seemed to be managing the waters.

After Lily left, Audra joined Nate and asked if Lily had lectured him on corporate morality, since she was so judgmental. Nate said Lily was a good person with a good heart. He said they'd reconnected at Neil's tribute, and he didn't want that to backslide. Audra said she was all for him reconnecting with his family, but she asked him not to allow Lily's selective conscience influence his important business decisions. Nate claimed Lily had no influence over him. Audra reminded him that he'd betrayed Lily and her company, and he was succeeding without them, something Lily wouldn't forget.

Audra told Nate they were on track toward getting everything they'd been working for. Nate commented that he couldn't believe how effortlessly everything had fallen into place. He said Nick hadn't returned to the office since Victoria hadn't left him any choice about taking a leave; and he had no idea when Nick would return. Nate considered that Nick might decide to give up corporate life again, buy another bar, or refocus on his charity work. Audra said if Nick did, Nate could permanently step in as COO. He stated that he wouldn't turn it down.

Nate suggested they return to the office. Audra told him to go ahead because she'd been working on a side project that might prove to be very rewarding.

At Jabot, Jack told Kyle there might be a problem at Marchetti, given Kyle and Summer's status. Kyle assured Jack that he and Summer would find a way to work together without conflict or acrimony. Jack said he wasn't sure that was possible, and one of them would have to step away from Marchetti. Kyle said that he and Summer had reinvented the company together, and Summer had already lost "so much." He said asking Summer to resign didn't seem fair. Jack said Kyle, not Summer, needed to resign.

Jack informed a stunned Kyle that Summer should remain at Marchetti. Kyle asked if Summer had put Jack up to that. Jack said Summer would never do that. He said it was a business decision. He reminded Kyle that Summer's life was in chaos, and she believed she was losing everything; Marchetti should be the one thing she could count on. Kyle claimed she should have counted on him, but she'd chosen to lie and keep secrets.

Jack said he didn't want Kyle to resign from Jabot. Kyle stated that Billy occupied his old co-CEO seat. He asked what was left. Jack informed him there were other divisions that Kyle could seamlessly walk into. Jack suggested that if Kyle was separating from Summer, then it made sense to separate at work, as well. Kyle asked if that was Jack's subtle way of trying to get him and Summer to stay together.

Jack assured Kyle he wasn't manipulating, nor did he have an ulterior motive or a plan to get Kyle to stay with Summer. Jack assured Kyle that he would never force him to do something against his will. Kyle couldn't believe that Jack had chosen Summer over him. Jack stated that there were great jobs at Jabot that Kyle could thrive in, since it wasn't feasible for Kyle and Summer to continue working as a team. He said they would do damage to the company they'd worked very hard to build.

Kyle told Jack that he and Summer were perfectly capable of handling their jobs and keeping their personal life out of it. Jack maintained they would be creating an awkward workplace for themselves and everyone else. Jack said if Kyle was determined to separate from Summer, then he should separate, but if he wanted to work closely with Summer, maybe that should tell him something. Angry, Kyle said he would get back to Jack, and he stormed out of the office.

At home, Diane told Summer she was sorry about what was happening between Summer and Kyle. Summer told Diane she didn't want Diane's support or concern, since Diane hadn't been any help in getting Kyle to forgive her. Summer said Diane was the reason her mother was gone and her marriage was crumbling. She said she was grateful she didn't have to walk on eggshells around Diane anymore.

Diane maintained that she was trying to help Summer. Summer laughed and said that when she'd asked Diane for help with her marriage, it had been a test, and Diane had failed miserably. Summer claimed Phyllis had been right, Diane destroyed everything she touched.

Later, Summer had her suitcase and carrier ready to leave the Abbott home when she had a vivid memory:

Kyle said Summer knew how much he loved her, and he would follow her anywhere in the world because she and Harrison were the center of his universe. Kyle claimed that in all the time they'd known each other, she'd been a million things to him: his rock, adviser, best friend, and partner. He said they'd been through challenges together, and they'd lived a lifetime together. He said Summer had watched him go down paths that had led him away from her, only to follow the path back to her.

Kyle said Summer hadn't signed up for raising a child she hadn't given birth to. Summer declared that biological or not, Harrison was her son. Kyle said he loved the way she opened up her heart to let people in, and he thanked God she was with him. He said he'd known that when they'd chosen each other, it had been the right choice. He said there would always be more difficulties, but he wanted to face them with her. He said he liked their story, and he loved his family. He said he would follow her anywhere and asked if she would do the same for him.

Summer said she would, and she asked where they were going. Kyle got down on one knee and asked her to marry him again.

Summer snapped back to reality when Kyle arrived. She asked if Diane had called him. He asked if there had been a reason that she should have. He saw Summer's luggage. She said it was what he'd wanted. Kyle said he hadn't expected her to leave so soon, but Summer asked what the point was in waiting.

Kyle told Summer that Jack had suggested that he should resign and let Summer run Marchetti. He said Jack was right; they shouldn't inflict their problems on others. He declared that Marchetti was hers. Summer said there was only one thing left to do. She called Harrison and asked him to join her and Kyle. Summer and Kyle explained to Harrison that she would be moving out, but nothing else would change; they would continue to do the fun things they'd always done. They assured him they would always be there for him.

Later, Summer told Kyle it had broken her heart because of all the unsettling changes in Harrison's life, yet he'd adjusted well in spite of them. Kyle said it was thanks to Summer, and she said Kyle, as well. She said they'd made a really great team. Kyle assured her they always would where their son was concerned. Kyle said he'd promised that Harrison could call her as often as he wanted, and Summer should feel free to stop by or call anytime. She said it wouldn't be the same for her or Harrison. Summer left.

At the Athletic Club bar, Chance asked Abby if she and Devon had made a decision about the move. Abby said she wanted to make sure that Chance would have no regrets about his decision. Chance assured her he was fine. Abby admitted she would always regret how badly she'd hurt him. Chance said he'd come to terms with the reality that they'd grown apart. He suggested they put it all behind them and try to be friends, for Dominic's sake. Abby agreed. Chance said he was in a better place and making plans for his future. He confirmed he didn't want the mansion; it was too quiet, and it needed to be filled with laughter.

Chance told Abby he'd found a place, and he would be moving that week. He said Dominic would still have three parents because he intended to see Dominic as before and occasionally have Dominic spend a night at his place without being bounced back and forth.

At Devon's, Lily told Devon that Nate was romantically involved with Victoria. Devon said Elena had recently told him about it, and he hadn't wanted to gossip about Nate cheating on Elena. Lily said Nate had left the cheating part of the story out. Lily also informed him that Nate was filling in for Nick as COO, and Audra was temporary interim CEO at Newman Media. Lily said she'd thought she and Nate could work things out because she wanted to believe he was a good person, but he kept proving her wrong. Devon stated that Nate hadn't been a good person for quite some time.

Devon asked Lily how she would feel living in the penthouse. He said Chance had offered them the Chancellor mansion. He said he, Abby, and Chance felt it was the right move for everyone because Chance didn't need all that space, and Dominic was most comfortable at the mansion. Lily pondered the idea and said she loved that Neil had spent time there. Devon suggested they keep the penthouse in the family.

Abby returned and greeted Lily. Abby told Devon they could move into the Chancellor mansion by the end of the week. She said Chance had found another place to live. She asked how things were going with Lily. Devon said Lily hadn't given him an answer yet. After a bit of hesitation, Lily agreed that she wanted to move into the penthouse.

Later, Abby asked Devon if everything was moving too fast, but he claimed he was fine. Abby said it was okay if he was having second thoughts. Devon said he wasn't having second thoughts, but it was going to be tougher leaving the penthouse than he'd thought. He said it had been the place where he'd done all his growing up, figured out who he was, and decided what he'd wanted out of life. He said it had been the first place where he had really been able to settle down, but he wouldn't change his mind because it was time to move on and start their lives together.

At Jabot, Diane told Jack she couldn't believe what Summer had said to her. Diane said she was trying not to be upset at Summer's words because Summer had been upset. She said Summer had needed to lash out at someone, and Diane had happened to be there. Jack claimed Summer had no right treating Diane that way because Diane wasn't to blame for Summer and Kyle's problems.

Jack told Diane he'd had his own run-in with Kyle earlier about Marchetti. At that moment, Kyle walked in and told Jack and Diane that he and Summer had told Harrison about the separation, and Summer had moved out of the house. Kyle said he'd informed her he would be resigning from Marchetti. Jack promised that Kyle's new job would be more than rewarding. Kyle declined the offer of another position at Jabot because he needed space to figure out what was next, and he left.

Jack told Diane that Kyle was at a crossroads in his life, emotionally and professionally. He pondered whether Kyle would really walk away from Jabot. Diane said it was all very fresh, and Kyle needed to get away for a while. She said when he returned to his family, he would find his place at Jabot because Kyle knew it was where he belonged. Jack wasn't so sure, and he admitted the house would be much sadder without Summer there.

Summer arrived at the Athletic Club and bumped into Chance. He asked her to tell him it wasn't what it looked like. She said Kyle had asked her to move out. Chance said he was sorry because he'd been through it, and it was tough. She said she needed to settle into her new home and focus on getting her marriage back on track.

Kyle arrived at Crimson Lights. Audra told him she'd had a banner day as Newman Media's newly minted interim CEO, and she felt she could spare a few minutes of her very valuable time for him. She asked how Kyle's day had been. He told her that Summer had moved out because they were separating. Audra said she was sorry to hear that, and she hoped it had nothing to do with what had happened between her and Kyle the previous night. Kyle said the problem had begun long before he and Audra had slept together. Kyle said he had a lot to figure out because he was out of a job, since Summer got to maintain custody of Marchetti.

Audra was surprised Kyle had had to resign. She said if anyone should go, it should have been Summer, because Jabot was his family's company. She asked what Kyle planned to do next. He said it was something he had to figure out.

At Society, Audra shamelessly flattered Victor. She asked if he'd wanted to see her for a reason. Victor said Newman Enterprises was more than a business to him; it was family and his life blood. He said he didn't like certain lines being crossed. He said he'd become aware that she and a certain member of his family had become acquainted, and he wanted to issue a serious warning. Victor said Adam was the reason for his warning.

Audra told Victor she'd met Adam briefly at the Athletic Club lounge, and it had been prior to being asked to fill in for Nate. Victor asked who had approached whom. Audra admitted she'd initiated the conversation. Victor stated that it was what she believed. Audra asked if Victor thought Adam had orchestrated their meeting. Audra said she was aware that Adam was in charge of McCall, so she'd made sure she hadn't given away any information about Newman Media.

Victor told Audra that Adam was planning to take over Newman Media. He didn't know when Adam would strike. He asked if Audra was ready for the battle. Audra asked if Victor was sure that Adam was trying to make a move. She suggested that Adam might be bluffing and trying to goad Victoria. Victor said Adam didn't make idle threats, and he'd declared war. Audra assured Victor that Newman Media would be safe under her watch.

Audra stated that Victor owned McCall, and she asked why he was playing both sides. He told her not to concern herself with what angle he was playing. He suggested she pay attention to what Adam was up to because he didn't want Adam taking over Newman Media.

In her suite at the Athletic Club, Sally received a text message from Nick: "On my way. Prepare to be distracted." Sally responded, "Can't wait." Meanwhile, Adam slipped an envelope under her door, and after a small moment of hesitation, he walked away.

Sally picked up the envelope. When she flipped it over and saw the initials "AN," she became angry. Someone knocked. Sally shouted for Adam to go away and leave her alone. Nick announced himself. Sally told Nick that Adam wouldn't give up. She showed Nick the envelope. She said the more she asked Adam to back off, the more persistent he became. Nick admitted he felt Adam's pain, and he said that Adam was also battling Victor. He said he'd hoped Adam would have taken his advice and given Sally space.

Nick said that during his argument with Adam, he'd been reminded that he hadn't been there when Sally had needed him. Sally said she didn't blame Nick because he and Sharon had had to save Faith, and Nick hadn't known that her daughter's life had been in danger, too. She hated that Adam had made Nick feel bad about it. She said it was another reason she wanted Adam out of her life. She said Adam twisted everything to benefit himself, and it was hurtful and manipulative. She said she hated it. She said if Adam couldn't respect her wishes, there was no room for him in her life. She threw the unopened envelope into the trash.

Nick told Sally that Victoria had forced him to take a leave of absence, allegedly for him to deal with his recent turmoil. Sally said perhaps Victoria was right because he'd been through a lot. Nick said if he'd needed the time, he would have taken it, but it was a mandatory leave, and he didn't believe it had been for his own good. He said Victoria and his replacement had other goals in mind. Sally guessed his replacement was Nate. Nick said if it was up to Nate, Nick wouldn't have a job to return to.

Sally asked how Nick was going to keep Victoria and Nate from pushing him out of his job. Nick said he wasn't going to sweat it, and he would use his time off to take care of the people he cared about. He said no matter how things shook out at Newman; he would be fine. Sally said she admired Nick's calm. She said she was climbing the walls because her room reminded her of what had happened. Nick suggested she focus on something that was rewarding for her. He asked how things were going at Chancellor-Winters. She admitted she didn't know because she'd been ghosting Chloe whenever Chloe called.

Nick suggested that Sally call Chloe and perhaps pay her a friendly visit, something Sally needed.

In the Athletic Club dining room, Chelsea thanked Billy for breakfast. Daniel approached and apologized for interrupting. He told Chelsea that her numbers were building slowly, and it meant her game was beginning to take off. He said there had been a ton of great reviews from game reviewers. Summer joined them. She said she'd wanted to ask if Chelsea would like to work with her at Marchetti. Daniel asked if Summer was trying to poach his star employee.

Summer told Daniel she didn't see it as poaching; she saw it as sharing the creative wealth. Summer stated that Chelsea's video game had launched, and she thought Chelsea might be looking for a new challenge. Daniel said he wanted Chelsea to know that she was valued at Omega Sphere. Summer told Chelsea that Marchetti could really use her talent because there had been some changes. She said she and Chelsea would run Marchetti together.

Summer announced that Kyle was leaving, she would take the CEO position, and Chelsea would be the creative director. She asked Chelsea to consider her offer. Daniel asked Summer for a private conversation. They stepped away. Daniel asked Summer what was going on with her. Summer informed him that she and Kyle had separated, but nothing was final. She said she had a room upstairs, but it wouldn't be for long.

Daniel asked why Summer was so optimistic. She said Kyle just needed some time because they'd both been through rough patches in the past, and they'd always found their way back to each other. Daniel said when a separation became permanent, it felt like a sucker punch. Summer asked if he was suggesting she prepare for the worst. Daniel stated he didn't want to see her hurt any more.

At Crimson Lights, on the phone, Billy chastised Jack for keeping his co-CEO in the dark, and he said the courtesy of a heads-up would have been in order. He said first it had been Diane, and then Kyle. After Billy ended his call, he told Chelsea that Summer and Kyle had separated, and Summer had moved out. Chelsea was saddened by the news, but she said it made Summer's earlier intensity make sense. Billy claimed that Summer and Daniel valued Chelsea's talents.

Chelsea asked Billy if she should consider the Marchetti offer. Billy claimed it was "one hell of an opportunity." He said they wouldn't be working directly with each other, but it would be a bonus to see her around the water cooler. Chelsea admitted she wasn't sure about such a big change. She said there would be a lot of pressure, and it would be very public. Billy assured Chelsea it was okay if she wasn't ready for it.

Billy told Chelsea that Summer's job offer was an amazing opportunity if Chelsea wanted to be in the fashion world. He suggested she think about it before she said no. Chloe arrived. Billy left so Chloe and Chelsea could catch up. Chelsea immediately told Chloe about Summer's job offer. Chloe said the position of creative director was huge. Chelsea said it was probably too much for her, but Chloe didn't think she was well equipped to give any advice. Chloe asked how she could weigh in on such huge advice when she hadn't been there when Chelsea had needed her most.

Chelsea said Chloe hadn't been responsible for Chelsea's depression and what she'd gone through. Chloe said she wouldn't have allowed Chelsea to push her away if she'd been there more often and noticed the warning signs. Chelsea stated it was her job to know that when she was feeling a certain way, she needed to reach out to people. She said she hadn't done that, and it had been why things had become so dark.

Chelsea admitted that Chloe had always been a support system for her, but she'd shut Chloe out. Chelsea said she hadn't noticed that she'd pushed everyone away. She said she'd realized she needed to be more vigilant and not push away the people that loved her, especially Chloe, who was the most loyal friend. Chelsea asked Chloe to help her go over the pros and cons of Summer's job offer.

When Audra arrived at the Athletic Club, the hostess gave her a bouquet of flowers and a jewelry box. As Audra read the card from Kyle, Summer commented that someone had to have been trying to impress her because the flowers were beautiful. Audra claimed it was to congratulate her on her new job because it was her first day as acting CEO of Newman Media. Summer noted that she had also been sent jewelry. She said she recognized the box because it was from the same jeweler she used. Audra was sure it was just a pen or clock. Summer wished her good luck. Audra asked if Summer was staying at the Club. Summer said it was temporary, like Audra's position.

Adam approached Audra from the jazz lounge. He said Audra was right about meeting all the movers and shakers at the jazz lounge. Audra said she'd been warned about him. Adam bet she'd never listened to a warning in her life. He walked away.

Sitting at the bar, Adam kept looking for someone, but when Audra saw him, she asked if she could join him. Adam commented that she'd received quite the extravagant gift. He asked if it had been from a fan or if, perhaps, she'd sent them to herself. She asked why she would do that. Adam said to make a statement as someone to be admired. Audra said she was admired, and she didn't need to send herself a gift to prove that. After a brief silence, Audra asked Adam what time "she" was coming. He replied, "Before noon."

Adam asked Audra who had warned her about him. She told him to guess. Adam replied it was a long list of options. She asked if everyone knew he had his sights set on Newman Media. Adam said he was curious where Audra's loyalties lay. She snarked, "I'm the CEO of Newman Media, so what do you think?" Adam countered, "You're the interim CEO." She said the nature of her job had been made very clear, and she looked forward to proving herself. Adam stated that Audra hated that. He said the word on the street was that she was no stranger to betraying her employer. He asked about the chances of her doing that again.

Audra told Adam she would be happy in whatever role Victoria wanted her in, and she was ready to take Adam down in a corporate battle if that was what he wanted. Audra said it was past noon. She noted he'd been stood up. Adam told Audra she'd made a big mistake in underestimating him, and he told her to get ready for the biggest battle of her life. Adam left.

Nick met Victor at Society. Nick told Victor that Faith was doing well, and she was happy to be back in her dorm and with her friends. Victor said he'd been playing chess with Faith daily. Nick suggested that Victor pay close attention to the chess match Victoria seemed to be playing. He said that he'd been informed that all his staff had recently been reassigned. Victor assured Nick he was keeping his eye on things and that he and Nikki had been against Nick's sabbatical. Nick asked if Victor wanted to figure out how to deal with Victoria and Nate.

Victor said he wanted Nick to help Adam. Nick said he was the last person Adam wanted to hear from, and Nick was in no mood to reach out to Adam. He said he felt terrible about what Adam and Sally had gone through and had tried to reach out to Adam, but Adam had shut that down very quickly and refused to honor Sally's wishes. He said Adam wouldn't give Sally the space she needed, and that was upsetting her. Victor said all Adam wanted was to share the grief with Sally. Victor wanted Nick to ask Sally to allow that. Nick insisted that Sally wasn't the problem. Victor admitted that Adam was the problem.

Victor told Nick that he would never give up hope that Adam would change. Nick claimed Adam was Victor's blind spot. Victor agreed, but he added that Adam needed someone to support him. He asked Nick to give Adam another chance. Victor asked Nick to join forces with Adam at McCall. Nick said he'd said no once, and he hadn't changed his mind. Victor asked Nick to put his sabbatical to good use. Nick asked if Victor thought he would trade Newman Enterprises for McCall. Victor claimed Adam needed Nick more than Victoria did. He believed if Nick supported Adam, there was a chance Adam would straighten out.

Chloe arrived at Sally's suite. Sally apologized and said she hadn't been pulling her weight at Chancellor-Winters, but things hadn't been easy. Chloe agreed that losing a child was the hardest thing. Sally said she wasn't sure she was ready to return to work. Chloe told Sally to take her time because Chloe had everything covered. Sally confessed that Nick thought work would be a good distraction for her, but she was having a difficult time thinking about anything. Sally admitted that a distraction would be a good thing.

Chloe told Sally that Lily and Devon loved Sally's choices for the sofas and the chairs, and the renovations would start in the common area soon. Sally said she was having trouble thinking about anything other than what she wanted for lunch. Chloe suggested they start slowly to get Sally's creative juices flowing.

Sally looked over a potential workspace and saw all the benefits of the layout. Chloe said she was happy to see Sally smile. Sally's smile faded. Chloe said she knew Sally was feeling guilty for forgetting Ava for a second. Chloe said Sally wasn't betraying her daughter. She said Ava would want her mom to keep smiling. Sally said Ava would have loved her Aunt Chloe. Chloe said she needed to set up a meeting with Lily and Devon. Sally declared that she wanted to join them because she was ready to get out into the world. Chloe said she would set a time, but if Sally wanted to cancel, it was okay.

Sally thanked Chloe for encouraging her to start small and for saying things that other people had been afraid to say. After Chloe left, Sally opened Adam's letter. Adam had written that he was grieving the loss of Ava, and he would never be able to apologize enough to Sally. He'd written that losing Ava had bound them for eternity, and he wanted to support Sally through their loss. He'd also written that he would be waiting downstairs until noon if she wanted to talk. He asked her not to let it be goodbye.

Summer was in her suite when Daniel arrived. He told Summer that he'd sent a text to Phyllis and told her about Summer and Kyle's separation. Summer asked why he'd done that. He said it was a big deal, and Phyllis would want to know. Summer chastised him because it hadn't been his information to share. He claimed Phyllis was responsible for Summer's separation, and it was time Phyllis took responsibility. Daniel said it might bring Phyllis back if she cared about them as much as she claimed. He said Summer's relationship shouldn't become another casualty of Phyllis' bad choices.

In Sally's suite, Nick asked Sally about her meeting with Chloe. Sally admitted it had been uplifting to talk about desks and work ergonomics.

Sally asked Nick about his meeting with Victor. He said Victor had offered him a job to work with Adam. Sally griped that Victor had given Adam a company but wouldn't let him run it. She snapped that Victor was trying to suck Nick into his drama with Adam. Sally said Adam wouldn't want Nick working with him because Adam had too much pride and was too selfish to share in any of the glory. She stated that people wanted to fix Adam, but it couldn't be done, so she didn't see the point in trying.

Nick said he hadn't known Sally would get so upset, and he questioned the "fixing Adam" thing. He asked if that had been in Adam's letter to her. Sally claimed Adam was irrelevant. She said he wasn't in her life anymore, and she would prefer if Nick didn't deal with him, either. She apologized and said that hadn't been meant to come out that way.

Nick told Sally he hadn't liked Victor's suggestion, but Victor was afraid Adam would spiral again. He said Sally knew the dark places Adam could go to. Sally claimed she wasn't the right person to discuss Adam with. She said Adam was trouble, and he would get worse. She said she no longer wanted Adam to be part of her life. Sally said she was really tired, and she needed space. She said she suddenly had a hair trigger, and she didn't want to say anything to hurt Nick. She asked him to leave. Nick kissed her and left.

Alone, Sally recalled what Adam had written: "I can only hope that her memory will help us find a way through this. I don't want the darkness to win. I want to believe there can be healing. Maybe it's Ava's spirit that's making me write this letter. Ava knows we suffered her loss together. Just as creating her bound us on earth, losing her bound us for eternity. I want to be in your life in the here and now to support you through this. I will be waiting downstairs until noon if you want to talk. Please, don't let this be goodbye. "

At Crimson Lights, Sharon and Adam engaged in small talk about their respective weekend plans. Adam said he would throw himself into a few things. Sharon asked what things. Without responding, Adam left.

When Nick arrived at the coffeehouse, Sharon asked him about Sally. Nick said he'd managed to upset her. He explained that Victor wanted him to help Adam at McCall. He said that Victor thought Adam would channel the pain of losing Sally and the baby into some war by going after Newman Media and Victoria. He said Adam claimed he'd built that company, and he wanted it back; Victoria had told him to bring it on. Nick said Victor felt there was a need for a buffer to prevent complete chaos. Nick said he'd told Victor he would think about it, and he'd made the mistake of telling Sally.

Nick told Sharon that Sally didn't think Adam deserved any help, and she'd been upset that he was considering it. Sharon said it was difficult for Sally to find her equilibrium after her trauma. He asked Sharon if he should work with Adam. Sharon said only Nick and Adam could decide that, and she wondered if Adam would want that. She asked if Victor had spoken to Adam about it. Nick said he didn't think so.

Nick told Sharon that Adam had been emphatic about turning things around on his own and turning McCall into a media powerhouse. He said Adam had rejected any advice from Victor. Sharon asked what Nick hoped to accomplish by working with Adam. Nick said he could keep the peace and prevent Adam from making any bad decisions. Sharon said that would only happen if Adam would be open to that kind of influence. She asked if Adam would see that as a sign Victor had lost faith in him. She said that would hurt Adam.

Nick told Sharon that Victor had given Adam that conglomerate but was second-guessing everything Adam was doing. Nick said if he was thrown into the mix, with Adam being as paranoid as he was, Adam would think that had been Victor's plan from the start. Nick guessed Adam might also think Victor had planted him there as a spy so he could report back on Adam's activities. Sharon said Nick named a number of reasons why it wouldn't work. He admitted there were many red flags. Sharon said she sensed Nick still wanted to do it.

Nick said he wanted Sharon's input. Sharon said Nick knew what her advice would be. Nick said Victor wanted him to do it because Adam was grieving, and Nick was his brother. Nick said when Adam was like that, he was a powder keg ready to explode. Nick said he could prevent anyone from becoming collateral damage.

Kyle walked into the Athletic Club, and when he saw Audra, he had a sudden memory: On the phone, he ordered flowers and diamond earrings to be sent to Audra Charles at the Athletic Club, and he wanted the note to read, "From one overachiever to another. Thanks for showing me your moves."

Kyle told Audra how great the earrings looked on her. She thanked him for the extravagant gifts. Audra said she'd received the flowers in front of Summer. Kyle just shrugged. Audra asked if he was worried that she would tell Summer they were from him or if he had planned that to make Summer jealous. Kyle said Summer hadn't factored into it. Kyle said he'd believed Audra would call him, so if she didn't, the flowers would be a fond farewell, but if she did, the earrings would be a "hello again." Audra said sparkly was her favorite color. She said his flowers really brightened her suite. She suggested he go and see them.

Audra said it was refreshing that Kyle didn't "give a damn" who saw them together. Kyle claimed he had nothing to hide. Audra said she preferred to keep her personal life personal, and she didn't want the hotel staff or anyone else knowing her business. Kyle asked if it was because she wanted to keep her options open or because she didn't want anyone thinking she was slacking off when there was work to be done. She said it was just the way it was. Audra went upstairs. Kyle waited before he followed her.

In her suite, Audra had changed into a hot pink robe. When Kyle arrived and saw her, he said the casual look took on a whole new meaning. Audra said he could see her earrings with nothing to obstruct the view. She dropped her robe and stood naked. Kyle undressed.

After the sex, Kyle said he felt like he was 20 again and back in New York. Audra said she'd given up a big part of herself to become successful, and there hadn't been time to be playful or spontaneous, but in her suite, they could be carefree. He said they could until the next meeting or spreadsheet. She said when one really loved one's job, it was magic. Kyle said it appeared that Audra really liked it at Newman. She said she couldn't remember the last time she'd been excited to go to the office.

Kyle warned Audra to watch out for the Newmans. Audra said she knew there was no love lost there, but she was running Newman Media with all the autonomy she could ever want. She said she needed a right-hand man, and she asked if Kyle was interested. She said she needed a strong second in command, and Kyle had the perfect skill set, finance and operations, so she could concentrate on acquisitions and the creative side. She told him it would be a lot more fun than working in fashion. Kyle noted that it wasn't as narrowly focused. Audra said Adam was going to use McCall as a weapon to go after Newman Media.

Audra told Kyle she had previously worked for Tucker, so she knew exactly what resources Adam would use, but if Adam could somehow miraculously make a go of it, Newman Media might be in peril. She said Kyle was perfect for the job. She noticed Kyle was hesitating and asked why. Kyle cited his family. Audra suggested it was time he broke away from the family and the family business. She told him to grasp his freedom because it was much easier to go after what he wanted, when he wanted it, and "to hell with expectations."

Kyle told Audra he was intrigued by her offer. He said Newman Media was going places, but it wasn't a decision he could make lightly. Audra claimed it would be more palatable than working with his estranged wife. They kissed and had sex again.

At home, Jack was stunned after he read the latest press release. He told Diane it was outrageous that Tucker and Ashley were in business together. Diane read, "Two powerhouses, Jabot and McCall Unlimited, are forming an iconic new health and beauty company with close ties to the crme de la crme of today's social media superstar influencers." Diane claimed it wasn't real. Jack said he needed to make a call.

Jack told Diane he'd spoken to a friend at the Chronicle, and he'd confirmed the news release was legitimate. Diane said Ashley had recently been trying to align board members to stage a coup. Jack snarked that Ashley had done it while she and Tucker had been building a company. Diane said she felt responsible because the whole rift had begun when she and Jack had reunited.

Jack told Diane she wasn't to blame. He said there had been times when Ashley had done things that had mystified him, such as "this one." He said after his and Ashley's last falling-out, it had taken a lot for them to return to a good place, and in the end, Ashley had folded her company back into Jabot. Jack claimed it was Tucker's doing, and he was through putting up with it.

At Society, Ashley and Tucker toasted to their new business venture and to that provocative press release about their joint success. Ashley wished she could see Jack's face when he discovered they'd started their own company. She hoped the news would be as traumatic for Jack as it had been for her when Diane had been shoved down her throat.

Tucker said Ashley had been in a righteous fury for months, and Jack would need a bit of time to catch up to the anger stage. Ashley asked about the stages. Tucker explained there were five stages: denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance. Ashley stated that Jack was definitely in denial, thinking Diane was capable of change. Tucker said the press release would trigger Jack's anger phase.

Ashley told Tucker she wanted to see an angry Jack again. Ashley and Tucker laughed as they mimicked Jack's outrage. Ashley asked what the next level was. Tucker said bargaining. She guessed Jack might offer her an upgraded title and possibly a big bonus to get her to stay. Tucker said Jack would be worried. Ashley said maybe as worried as she'd been about Diane getting power at Jabot. Tucker saw Jack and Diane walk in. Tucker smiled, and he raised his glass to them.

Ashley cheerfully greeted Jack and Diane. Jack demanded to speak to Tucker alone, but Ashley said if he had a problem with her business decision, he could talk to her, not her business partner. Raising his voice, Jack claimed that when Ashley didn't get her own way, she picked up her toys and left everyone hanging. He refused to discuss it with Ashley.

Tucker told Ashley he would talk to Jack and find out what his future brother-in-law had to say. Jack and Tucker went outside. Diane asked if Ashley wanted to go to war with Jack just because Ashley didn't like Diane. Diane asked what it would take for Ashley to stop. Ashley growled that it hadn't taken long to get to the bargaining stage.

Ashley told Diane that the previous week, she would have asked Diane to dump Jack and leave town, but she had since decided she wanted to pursue her new venture. Ashley said it would only be a matter of time before Diane did something stupid to undermine Ashley's father's company. She said that, in the meantime, she and Tucker would be nurturing their company, watching it grow and flourish, while Jabot failed and floundered because of Diane.

Ashley said in the end, she and Tucker would be there to lend a helping hand. Ashley claimed that Jack would dump Diane because he would realize that Diane was the reason Jabot was failing, but it would be too late. She said Jack would remember that their father's company and family were the most important things. Ashley stated that Diane would never be an Abbott for as long as Diane lived.

Outside, Jack told Tucker that if he had any real feelings for Ashley, Tucker would call off the wedding and the new company. He said Tucker was dragging Ashley away from the family company she loved. Tucker stated that Jabot was just a company with a profit and loss sheet. He said it had never been John's heart and soul, but family was. Tucker said if Jack wanted to honor his father, he would wish Ashley well, toast her new beginning, and embrace her impending marriage, because that was what Ashley wanted.

Jack claimed Tucker had given up his company, and Ashley had to give up hers. He claimed Tucker was a "selfish son of a bitch" who wanted everyone's life to be as empty and meaningless as his. Jack said if Tucker had any influence over Ashley, Tucker would undo the unhealthy fixation she had on Diane.

Tucker told Jack he found it fascinating that Dina had left the family; Diane had, also; and just as Dina ... Jack interjected and spat that he didn't want to hear his mother's name coming from Tucker's mouth. He said it was about Tucker manipulating Ashley. Tucker said Ashley was tough, and Jack was afraid to go toe to toe with her; it was the reason Jack was going after him instead. He said they both knew Ashley would do "whatever the hell" she wanted. He said the sooner Jack admitted that, the sooner he would be at acceptance. Tucker joined Ashley, and Diane and Jack left.

Inside, Ashley told Tucker that Diane had tried her hand at bargaining, and she sucked at it. Tucker said the news had hit Jack pretty hard, and he would be reaching the depression stage in record time

In the jazz lounge, Adam recalled a conversation he'd had with Nick: Nick said he was really glad that Adam had been there for Sally. Adam snarled that he'd been there to take a kick in the teeth so his brother could shine. Adam wanted to know how it felt to be the guy in the spotlight when the credits rolled because he'd save his family from a lunatic. He said on Nick's victory lap -- he'd swooped in to fix what Adam hadn't been able to.

Adam claimed Nick was the hero, while Adam got shoved back in a corner until he was needed again. Nick said that night had taken its toll on everyone, but Adam claimed Nick had left that sewer, smelling like a rose. Adam claimed that even though he'd done everything right, it had still fallen apart. He told Nick he'd really wanted to get things right for the next time someone needed him to do their dirty work.

Nick said it had been an awful night for everyone. Nick said he'd told Sally to find some way to forgive Adam for something that hadn't been his fault, but the decision was still up to Sally. He said Sally had decided that since there was no baby, there was nothing left between her and Adam. He said if Adam cared about Sally, he would respect that and stay away from her.

In another memory, Adam slipped the envelope under Sally's door, and after hesitating, he walked away.

In another vivid memory, Adam recalled a conversation with Audra: Audra said she would be happy in whatever role Victoria had for her, and she was ready to take Adam down in a corporate battle. Adam said Audra had made a big mistake underestimating him. He told her to get ready for the biggest battle of her life.
